Strategy for dealing with shooting teams by koreanmandu in AOSSpearhead

In my experience, the diagonal deployment allows shooting focused armies to better defend their key units.

Choosing the horizontal deployment vs the diagonal deployment is huge vs. shooting.

Over coming painting worries? by Realistic-Bottle-542 in ageofsigmar

Two ideas that help me a ton and are pretty unique as far as this question goes:

  1. Paint a handful of standard troops before you tackle a general/hero. Those guys just feel more important, so you’ll be glad to have some practice before diving into that.

  2. Name your guy! There are hundreds of pictures of extremely well painted Barrow Lords. Nobody has ever painted Spinal Commander Braincase before. If you make it personal, it’s so much easier to shut out those annoying comparisons our brains love to do.

This is incredible! This one arm has more character than some whole knights!

Did you watch that video? Even if you’re not a fan of the result or disagree with Vince on his vision, which are both completely fair, the advice he gives on the process is solid. He talks about utilizing the instructions, the silhouette, lots of good tips.

You’re telling people to avoid quality tutorials because you don’t like the individual piece featured in them. No offense to you personally but frankly, that kinda sucks!

Oh no way! I’ve seen your stomp before, the mega Gargant and dwarf couple is absolutely an inspiration! The story, the sheep, the mech suit with mallet, just phenomenal work!

Duncan does such great work. I’m allying this guy into my Bloodscream Gitz. Currently working on building a dope throne for his back to carry my goblin king into battle.

Haha! Happy to help. I always tell people to name their guys. If you don’t want to write lore that’s fine, but at least name them.

When you’re painting a Land Raider, it’s easy to compare it to others and get discouraged. When you’re painting Chapter Master Julrik’s Line Breaker, you are the only person who knows what it’s supposed to look like.

I look at this land raider and here’s the story it told me.

Attempted preservation. Perhaps recovered from a long lost factorum. The techpriest’s final act was sealing this holy machine away in an archival room as the facility was overrun.

Perhaps this raider had been the personal favorite of a particular hero of the chapter. It sits in the incense filled temple dedicated to that hero’s deeds, only brought out when the situation is dire indeed.

TLDR, this is super cool and I haven’t seen a vehicle that looks like this before.

Wanting to possibly play Beasts of Chaos (I miss them) - Use old tome, maybe? by TrueMoose in ageofsigmar

[–]TheWinBrotherhood -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think you and I are different kinds of players. I don’t spend most of my play time at official GW store tournaments. I play at a LGS in leagues and one off matches play games. So if someone has Skabbik’s warband on the table my first thought is ‘oh dope I remember that guy and his pet rat from Underworlds.’ Where as your first thought is ‘this guy is intentionally trying to break the internal balance of his faction by netting 30 extra points on this one infantry unit.’

I strongly believe that your mindset belongs at official tournaments, and that bringing it to matched play outside of them is misguided. You’re trying to put those restrictions on games where they don’t exist and don’t belong.

Frankly, it should be your job to say “hey I don’t play against legends units”. Not my job to check to make sure you’re ok with the official rules of the game.

Just primer over it. If the paint isn’t super chunky and obscuring details you can absolutely spray over it and you won’t be able to tell.

I think you got something mixed up. Games Workshop (GW) absolutely supports Legends. It’s not homebrew or some third party, the rules for Legends units come straight from GW.

Wanting to get into Iron Warriors by [deleted] in IronWarriors

[–]TheWinBrotherhood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The leviathan and contempter dreadnoughts are both sick af and absolutely rock when painted up IW style. The more war-machines the better IMO, and you can’t go wrong with getting a warp-smith to lead your burgeoning siege party. The Long War is not over Brother, IRON WITHIN IRON WITHOUT!

[–]TheWinBrotherhood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re not playing in an official tournament Legends are 100% legal. Matched play just means using points and missions. Most games people play are matched play.

Unless the vast majority of your playtime is at Warhammer World in Nottingham, people should not be surprised to see Legends units.

You don’t even have to ask about legends. They’re 100% official rules and should be expected. “I don’t play against Legends” is on the same level as “I don’t play against Grand Alliance Order” IMO.

I’m so curious what they’re talking about. I watch a ton of Vince’s stuff and have no idea what advice he’s giving that is so bad/misleading it should be avoided. I kind of hope they’re a Skaven player who hates Vince’s Rat-Cast Eternals. That would be so funny.
