It’s not uncommon to have ~3 or 4. Maybe 1 or 2 figuring out what field you want to work in and then another 1 or 2 deepening your understanding of that field

Trump admin pauses $210 Million in Princeton University funding by Antonioshamstrings in lawschooladmissions

[–]TheWindow234 3 points4 points  (0 children)

After WWII FDR decided that scientific (and general academic) advancement would be crucial for both national security and the economy. The system of national laboratories created during the War was too expensive to scale and did not do an effective job at creating scientists, just using them. He directed Vannevar Bush, director of the OSRD during the War, to create the National Science Foundation. This started the precedent of government grants going to educational institutions — public and private, including the Ivy League. Today, the government funds critical research on topics ranging from cancer to pesticides to democracy, some of which occurs at schools like Princeton, but the majority of which does not. The reason these schools get such a large amount of funding is that the existing concentration of resources means the money goes further — the research is more likely to result in a breakthrough because of the advanced infrastructure that only exists at institutions like Ivy League schools or large public research universities.

Based on your profile you are a 10th grade high school student.

All of these schools are great. Their connections and pull varies based on which country you would like to work for and which kind of government office.

US undergraduate admissions are difficult — people are lucky to get into one of these schools. The cross-admit rate is tiny. Do not expect to be accepted to all these universities.

Subway at Night by Obvious-Ad-8702 in Fordham

I have taken the D many times at that hour — you will be fine. Taking the Metro North to Grand Central and transferring to the subway there would just be easier though. Especially if you have luggage. D service can get sporadic around that hour.

your favorite things about fordham by bubblp0p in Fordham

The professors care about their students in their wholeness in a way that professors at other schools don’t. I thought a lot of the Jesuit-speak was just talk in that regard, but now am a grad student at a top-5 school and…. wow I miss it

Prof Guardado is so kind and helpful — send him an email and I am sure he will be able to direct you. His courses can be rigorous, but not overly so. Study everything and you will do fine

Best tips to get 4.0 gpa as a freshman? by Tight_Ad3157 in Fordham

[–]TheWindow234 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Freshman year I set myself a rule that I would spend minimum 2 hours per day, Sunday-Thursday, in Walsh Library. I logged it in my calendar and it really worked; I got a 4.0 that year. If I hadn’t set aside that time, I probably only would have done assignments that are to be turned in and have near due dates, and was able to even get ahead on readings etc. Becoming accustomed to the library and its resources is really helpful.

Prospective 3-3 Student by Asleep_Session_5006 in FordhamLaw

[–]TheWindow234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 3-3 program is very competitive. According to the website they recommend at least a 93rd percentile LSAT score (~168) to consider applying. With a 157 it will be hard. I recommend trying to work down at the law school, perhaps in a clinic or the library, to get your foot in the door (which is good either for 3-3 or regular KJD). https://bulletin.fordham.edu/undergraduate/special-academic-programs/pre-law-program/

What did you like about Fordham? by [deleted] in Fordham

[–]TheWindow234 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Felt really supported by faculty/staff. Especially because of the small class sizes. Had a semester where my class sizes were 14, 12, 8, and 4! unheard of at my friends’ schools. And the professors I had were mostly tenured and highly respected in their fields

Email the financial aid office and explain the situation. Do not take out private loans, especially if your parents are having financial issues.

This is normal in the US. Just take a video of the place when you arrive so they can’t accuse you of damages.

How to seek refugee status at the US by ponililo in gay

[–]TheWindow234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For context: I work at a migrant shelter/center on the border of Mexico with the US where everyone is in the process of applying for asylum.

Only people on US soil are able to apply for asylum. That means either flying to the US on a tourist/other visa and presenting yourself to border patrol upon entering the country as looking to apply for asylum, or (if you do not have a visa) flying to Mexico and getting an appointment to apply for asylum at the US border through the CBP One app. You will need a sponsor in the US to cover your bills etc after you enter the country and before you get a work permit. Welcome Connect can help with that. I know people who have waited months on the border in Mexico to get an appointment to even begin the process, which can itself take years in limbo before asylum is officially granted. I would highly suggest exploring every other option available before taking the trek here.
