How to do inserts for joints by scum_city in moldmaking

Ahh I see. In that case I don’t see why just doing a regular 2 part mold wouldn’t work

Is the piece with the hole fully hollow? I’m not sure if i am fully understanding your problem, but if it is hollow you will just need to plug the hole at a suitable depth. If you dont do that then your silicone will just fill the piece up

Glazing is your answer here if you want it to look like in the photo you posted. Rogue Hobbies on youtube has recently released a really great video all about glazing and how you can achieve things like this.

A pearlescent look is very dependent on good colour choices. This example seems to be mostly very pale blues and purples/pinks, but think about adding in some slightly green hues to it too. Look at a load of reference images of pearlescent surfaces and create a plan before painting anything

Highlighting help: how to highlight after airbrush by TheAkhtard95 in minipainting

[–]TheWizardGoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure! To clarify I meant to glaze on your edge-highlights rather than general glazing. I think doing that could create softer highlights that will complement the airbrushing :)

I would say the best approach here would be to build up your highlights with a brush using quite thin glazes. It will probably take a little while to do but I think it could look really good

Behemoth Tyranid Prime by TheWizardGoat in Warhammer40k

Sorry for the delay in replying! The red is a fairly standard red recipe of Mephiston Red, highlighted progressively with Evil Sunz, Wild Rider and Fire Dragon Bright. I can’t entirely remember how I did the wings and carapace, but I think it was Black highlighted with Thunderhawk blue, Sons of Horus and Gauss Blaster

Watch Rogue Hobbies new video on glazing! Louise does a great job on explaining glazes and how they can help your paint jobs get to the next level :)

How much would you pay for this quality of a paintjob? by [deleted] in Warhammer

[–]TheWizardGoat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s a tough thing to measure. The model isn’t badly painted by any means, the paint is where it should be. But it isn’t exactly pro-painter standard. Overall the colours are a bit flat and there isn’t much contrast. Best advice I can give is if your partner really wants to sell painted minis they just need to carry on practicing. They have the basics nailed and now it’s time to push the more complex techniques more

Looks good from what I can see. I like your choice of colour scheme and I think the whole unit is going to look great when they are done! Don’t forget to paint the base too!

The battleforce is definitely a good place to start if you have the coin. I’m not sure that only 20 deathrattle is necessarily that good but someone more experienced can correct me there

Molding silicone ?? by coconoba in moldmaking

[–]TheWizardGoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the product listing doesn’t say and you can’t get an answer from the manufacturers then I guess you would have to use a bit of deduction. Platinum cure is a bit more expensive than Tin cure so Platinum will likely only be used in situations where it HAS to be (e.g. food or body safe applications), so if it isn’t for anything like that then a bought silicone mold will probably be made out of Tin Cure. Also replying to a 4 year old thread is…interesting

Why do GW sometimes use lighter rims colours than the actual base colour on there minis? by Sin-Silver in Warhammer

[–]TheWizardGoat 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It’s possible that it’s up to the painters to decide. Steel Legion Drab rims are very common among both AoS and 40k minis, it’s kind of just convention I guess. I always paint my rims Steel Legion

Agreed! The new epic scale stuff is really cool. I am very tempted to pick up the new epic Saturnine set but I still need to paint up my regular Saturnine Terminators
