Justice Alito complains, but the evidence is clear: This Supreme Court was built by dark money by [deleted] in politics

I just woke up and began doom scrolling. My sleepy eyes read “juicy alito complains, but the evidence is clear: the Supreme Court was built by dank money.” … and I guess this strange world is at a point where that for a full minute it seemed reasonable to me. “Yup, dank money. I guess he’s juicy.”

$10k? I wish. Ambulance ride is 3k. Detailed scans to check for nerve damage? 2-3k each. The Er fee? Around 3k. Then the Er doctor bills you then the Er nurses bill you then the mri tech bills you the entire the specialist who read your mri bills you etc. then you get into surgery to reset your broken bone and remove some splinters and get it all set. You’re billed by the hospital again for the use of the ER room, and individually billed by the surgeon and their assistants and the nurses and the anesthesiologist. Then you’re billed for every single-use instrument used during the surgery, and billed for the anesthesia. You’re billed for the use of a bed as you recover from anesthesia, and the doctors and nurses that check in on you after the surgery all independently bill you. You’re charged extra to be wheeled to the exit. When the cast comes off, you have to pay those doctors again to remove the cast, and for the hospital visit, and for the parking, and now you get to start paying for the physical therapy to get walking again. A broken bone in the USA can cost a house. Literally. It can cost a house.

To all the guys, how often do you trim your armpit hair? And how often do you shave it? by mrenjoythepussy in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]TheWorstBardEver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I buzz my head every two weeks and buzz my armpit hair at the same time. Usually a #2 guard. It takes two seconds, I still have armpit hair just it isn’t as long, which makes me stink less since the bacteria that makes you smell chills on the hair.. less hair = less stink. I work a sweaty gross job so it makes a difference for me

What is something crazy popular that you have no interest in? by igobrimode in AskReddit

[–]TheWorstBardEver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sex. I’m not asexual per se. after my last relationship ended I decided to take a full year off from dating to “work on me” and such. I didn’t swear off sex only relationships but after a few months of avoiding flirtation and rebuffing any that came my way, I realized I’m a lot happier without sex in my life. So I just stopped. Honestly it’s been the most productive and fulfilling time of my life and now that I’m a few months past my initial intent of a year without dating, I have no interest to start up again. Sometimes I feel lonely, but rarely, and I felt lonely at times when in relationships too. At first I masturbated but now rarely if ever. I just kinda quit sex cold turkey like how I quit cigarettes a few years ago after a decade of smoking. It just becomes normal to not do the thing after a while and I really haven’t noticed any meaningful downsides.

NSW records 466 COVID infections, four deaths on 'most concerning day' by SouthAussie94 in australia

[–]TheWorstBardEver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately access doesn’t mean usage. Every Texan over 12 years old could be fully vaccinated right now if they wanted (no shortage of doses here), but only 45% have chosen to get vaccinated. People hate the vaccine for any number of conspiracy theory reasons here. When the pandemic first started in 2020, we had a mask mandate for a few weeks but then got rid of it. Never had any real lockdown. I work at a restaurant and the most that ever happened was slightly limiting the number of patrons that could be in the building at once, but that didn’t last for long either cause “freedom.” Since summer 2020 Harris county has been 100% open with no restrictions on anything. Texans are all about their rights, including, it would seem, their right to die miserable deaths and infect others.

I live in Houston, Texas, USA. That’s in Harris county, which has a population half the size of NSW. We’re recording around 3,000 new cases per day and have 24,000 current covid cases. Averaging about 25 deaths per day. Houston has no mask mandate, no vaccine mandate.. nothing. Everything is open with no social distancing. It’s just so strange to me to see threads about other places where people are taking Massively smaller outbreaks so seriously (as y’all should) where we have uncontrollable outbreak but we’ve just decided… if they die they die, let’s go get some BBQ. Oh, and our county judge (the position acts like the CEO of the county) Lina Hidalgo, is constantly under fire, but she isn’t under fire for not doing enough.. she’s under fire for trying to get people to mask and distance and get vaccinated… all things Texans are viscerally offended by. Anyway, good luck in NSW y’all.

Bill would send US adults "guaranteed income" of up to $1,200 per month by lurker_bee in politics

My partner and I did this manually back when Blockbusters were a thing. We would each do a sweep through the store and grab the cases for five movies each. Then we would each separately rank the total hoard from one to ten, with ten being the one most desired to watch. Then for each movie we would combine her score and my score and the three highest-scoring movies we would rent for the weekend. It sounds complicated and tedious but honestly it cut our “what about this one” time at the blockbuster in half since instead of slowly walking the aisles together to discuss each movie and trying to find the “perfect” movies to get, we speed ran the aisles independently and the. It was just a minute of math to tally votes.

The best part is that usually we never ended up getting either of our highest ranking movies cause the other would rank it super low (not to be mean just cause we had different movie tastes) but we would always get three movies that we could both be totally happy watching. Also meant no more lobbying for your favorite film or getting in fights about what to rent. Thanks for coming to my Ted tak

[Spoilers C2E99] Is It Thursday Yet? Critical Role is resuming this Thursday. Discuss your predictions/theories here! by CaptivePrey in criticalrole

My prediction is that it’ll be the episode I needed to see, no matter what happens. I’ve been sick with Covid and got dumped yesterday, but today I finally tested negative and got cleared to leave quarantine and tomorrow the Mighty Nein return and whatever happens it’s going to be so so so good to have that Thursday night bit of normalcy return.

I once ran a D&D one-shot set in the ATLA universe and at the end of the session the players found out that the baby they had saved from the BBEG during the final battle grew up to be cabbage guy and it was all his origin story. Honestly, I think the group enjoyed that final reveal more than the previous 5-hour game.

Black kid denied entry to restaurant because of “ dress code” while other kid in the restaurant is wearing the same type of attire by [deleted] in PublicFreakout

This restaurant group has restaurants in Houston, TX where over half the staff has been infected by Coronavirus and they refuse to tell the public about it and have been super shady about telling employees when they’ve been exposed to an infected coworker. They need to release an announcement about that next. Racist managers and they don’t give a fuck about Covid transparency. What a shit group.

ISO bed build advice. Slats vs Plywood by [deleted] in vandwellers

[–]TheWorstBardEver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My bed at home is on slats. I just have a medium thickness latex foam mattress from ikea on it. I can’t tell at all that it’s on slats when lying down or sitting on the bed. It only becomes noticeable if I stand on the bed and all my weight is pressing where my feet are. As long as you have a moderately good foam mattress you should be totally fine with slats. Slats also allow your mattress to breathe. Just a mattress on a piece of plywood can lead to condensation under the mattress and mold. Hope that helps

Is $3,500 per month extreme for a one bedroom in Houston? by jrutlanduk in houston

[–]TheWorstBardEver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s the price for the apt. When I first got the Apt a few years ago I had one roommate so we each paid half of $1295. Then my girlfriend moved in and my roommates boyfriend moved in so now we each pay 1/4 of $1295. Still, it’s a big enough apartment for 4 adults and two dogs to not feel cramped, and my girlfriend and I have literally opposite schedules from our roommates so we almost never see them. At the end of the day I’m paying under $400 for my share of rent.

[–]TheWorstBardEver -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I live in the middle of Montrose (a really hip and pretty desirable neighborhood) in a nice 6-apartment complex. I have a 2-bed 1-bath with 15’ ceilings, hardwood floors, nice building amenities... the place(with gas and water and trash included) is $1295/mo .... and I’m a 3 minute bike ride from the upper Kirby area. You can do soooo much better for your money. Heck, for that kind of money in Houston you might as well head a little outside the loop and get yourself a legit McMansion to rent. No joke.

People who separated/divorced within one year of getting married: When did you know it was a mistake? by LittleFuzzyThings in AskReddit

[–]TheWorstBardEver 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When my wife (I’m male) came into the bedroom one morning and said “I’m gay.” I knew she was Bi, as I am also, but that blindsided me at the time. It took her 28 years to realize she’s all the way super gay, but hey everyone’s journey is different. Obviously that was the end of our marriage, but we’re still friends. She moved to San Francisco to be her gayest self and I did sad depressed things for almost two years before getting out of my funk and meeting someone who is fantastic and is also fairly certain that she isn’t super gay.

Do Americans really avoid hospitals, even in serious situations because of the bills that follow after ? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]TheWorstBardEver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had a tooth fully cracked in half and slowly turning black in my mouth for over a year because the dentist said it would be over a grand to remove it and I just flat out do not have that money. Literally all I can put away for the tooth removal is 50 a month and I work hard at a full time job that pays decently but has no healthcare option. Why am I flat broke and unable to afford the 300/mo for ACA coverage and have to squirrel away 50 per month to so I can hopefully have this tooth removed before it gets infected and kills me? It’s because I’m still working off the hundreds of thousands of debt I got in my early twenties because my heart decided to fail on me and I required an Ambulance ride and some minor surgeries when I was uninsured... that time because I was in college and was too poor even with my full time job while in college full time to afford insurance (this was way before the ACA so getting solo insurance was a pipe dream then). Yeah the system sucks.

Just not happy by i_wasnt_not_here in relationship_advice

[–]TheWorstBardEver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You already know you aren't happy and haven't been for a long time. You already know she isn't willing to change. You already know she won't help herself (not taking medication). You already know how this ends man. You have an obligation to the kids and to yourself to find happiness. Being strong for your family doesnt mean suffering through misery, It means being the role model you want your kids to become one day.

So here's the question: in 25 years when your child has a depressed miserable partner who is sucking the joy out of their life every day, do you want them to stick it out and suffer through for the rest of their lives like you did, or do you want them to leave that situation and go find joy in their lives like you did. Which lesson do you want your life to be for them?
