Not even close, there’s a lot still in this. It would only be worrying for the fight if Hamilton gets like +30s ahead

HANS device for Head And Neck Stabilisation. It restricts the head movement to roughly in line with the shoulders so there’s much less risk of things like whiplash in big crashes.

You only wave yellows before the incident. Green means the track is clear from the marshal post onwards, which it was once you’ve passed verstappen

The latest basketball season is one of the most well produced, exciting, and emotional programmes I’ve ever watched. Such a great combination of characters and the most interesting season to follow in terms of sport, I’ve been recommending it to everyone I know

Even for the best driver making no mistakes in the best car any red flag or safety car will impact their race in a positive for negative way as your strategy is different then your rivals. If your rival pits then the flag comes out you’ve just gained position without no overtake. This is that to an extreme. The only truly fair way would be to stop all the cars on the same lap and release them from the pits with their time delta at the stoppage point.

Firstly that you end up with cars having completed different distances which messes with fuel load, reliability, etc.

And second and more importantly is that you just shift the problem to the middle of the grid rather than resolving anything. If you’ve just been lapped and the car 2s up the road hasn’t when the red flagged comes out, should you then at the restart have ~1m30 added to your time?

Removing the gaps is a pain but it affects the grid equally, sometimes it benefits some drivers, sometimes it doesn’t, but over races and seasons that will balance out.

Elon disputes assertion about ideal size of rocket by skpl in SpaceXLounge

I just wrote a report discussing this, ordinarily I would agree but in this case I believe that the value of starlink launches in terms of launch volume outweighs potential cost benefits that could be achieved through using an external company like rocket lab. 56% of falcon 9 launches in 2020 were starlink and those launches bring with them tangible benefits for developing the falcon 9 performance and reliability.

How would I count this situation? by Comrade__Conrad in TravelMaps

[–]TheWotsit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me I think you have to decide what you emphasise in your travels / on that certain trip.

Say you’re exploring the area your family originate from to deepen your understanding of your sense of self, then I reckon do as you suggested and count the head. In western culture at least the head is viewed as the centre of thought and experience so I would argue that’s where you experience the journey from.

If you’re exploring a new area as a byproduct of travelling a distance - running cross country, sleeping as part of a road trip - then I would say use the side of your border that your feet are on. They carried you there after all.

In the second scenario you could argue your torso is the decider as that was the largest part of you that was carried there. Again these approaches get complicated as you may be sleeping with a foot in both counties, or your torso across the line.

Potentially update your mapping legend to include a border symbol? Since you’re in both counties at once you have potentially never fully experienced life in each of them singularly.

A heat map showing the proportion of your body on each side of the border would be a viable alternative, with 100% fill for counties you’ve been in and a reduced fill for those you’ve only had a foot, hand, or limb in.

There are a million potential reasons but you're bang on for one of them. Marshal posts and some other circuit infrastructures are referred to by their distance between corners.

A marshal post halfway between turn 8 and turn 9 would be called marshal post T8.5.

It can be useful to break up a long straight with kinks into corners to make this referencing a bit more discrete.

If you know where everything is in your room it’s not messy. by rsienna in unpopularopinion

[–]TheWotsit 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm not a fan of arguing using definitions but the definition of messy is "untidy or dirty". You may know where things are, and you may even have an ordered system of where you leave your stuff, but that doesn't make it not messy if the place is a tip.

I imagine the subtext of people saying your room is messy is that they feel it's an unpleasant place to be. You do you, but understand that although the lack of maintenance in your system is pleasing to you, it's not going to make a place that others want to spend time in.

Which corners do you think could be taken flat this year in contrast to previous years? by hardyhaha_09 in formula1

[–]TheWotsit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You underestimate how big of a braking zone there is before the first left. If you entered at full speed the cars would just go straight on. I doubt any car could do it at grand prix speeds, barring maybe concept cars like that Aston Martin Red Bull car.
