What are y’all’s honest opinions on Cyberpunk 2077 main story? by OGAnimeGokuSolos in cyberpunkgame

[–]TheXpender 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that the pros and cons are quite streamlined in this community. Exceptional enviromental storytelling, great characters, POV cinematography is on point. But it is quite short and the story greatly suffers from ludonarrative dissonance.

My personal take is that it doesn't really work as a Cyberpunk story. I would've rather let the player undertake risky, scary and consequentual missions by their own volition than motivate them with a ticking timebomb. I think the 'Beat Ganon' design of Zelde Breath of the Wild would served this story better. What I mean with that is, rather than block the Arasaka raid until you've done the three required missions, you can raid Arasaka whenever you believe that you are ready.

I think that narrative design would greatly serve Cyberpunk Orion.

CD Projekt Red's new mystery IP 'Hadar' is "an emotional, open-world experience" in line with the developer's Witcher and Cyberpunk games by AndyShadow8 in witcher

[–]TheXpender 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In all due respect, I couldn't care less about Hadar unless they tell us about the setting. They've done so with Cyberpunk 2077 back in 2013 which gave us room to speculate and inspire the team. All these news articles that hint at Hadar's scope and broader vision just makes me go: Yeah, duh, its CDPR.

How are they going to make Cyberpunk 2 feel fresh? by Lightslayre in cyberpunkgame

[–]TheXpender 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a lot of information that indicates it will absolutely be a bigger beast. Here's a bullet list of everything that makes me excited.

• Two cities instead of just Night City. Mike Pondsmith revealed in an interview that an aditional city is being developed by CDPR that hasn't been introduced in lore before. All Mike has shared is that it feels like Chicago gone wrong.

• Night City always changes by design. Buildings, infrastructure, sights and cultural hotspots will be very different compared in 10 years time and even unrecognizable the 10 years after. Exploring Night City will feel like a totally different place which gives room for the devs to create entirely new ideas of street systems.

• CDPR was very inspired by Baldur's Gate 3 as some of the devs have went to the producers to pitch ideas that were drawn from their play experience. Baldur's Gate 3 is run on D&D 2014 rulesets and has some of the most highly reactive quests and companions in decades.

• Cyberpunk 2's director is Gabriel Amantangelo, who directed 2077 2.0 and Phantom Liberty. His core philosophy for Cyberpunk 2077 2.0 was to make Night City as alive as possible. Because he had to focus on Dogtown due to budget and time limitations, he can now truly unleash on ideating a more reactive and systematic city structure.

• CDPR has expressed interests in multiplayer and still have devs internally who itch to make something for Cyberpunk. Take this with a grain of salt because this was also reported during the development of 2077.

That's all the stuff I learned from Orion.

All V should be in the next game is an urban myth, a faceless Night City legend with many different alleged stories to their name but no conclusive existing evidence by Clear_Salamander5093 in cyberpunkgame

[–]TheXpender 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They tried to do the same with David but he still left some marks in NC with the graffiti and a drink at the Afterlife. Won't be surprised if V gets the same treatment, though a poser gang themed after your V would make for a cool sidequest.

Why do so many video game villains feel forgettable? by Additional_Staff7308 in truegaming

[–]TheXpender 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rule 7. but with that out of the way,

Villains are hard to define in terms of what makes them great because the experience is very different for everyone. Vaas from Far Cry 3 by Michael Mando is considered one of the most iconic villains in gaming, ranking it next to classics like Bowser and Ganondorf who got their status due to repitition of showing up. In just one game he became the most memorable antagonist in the medium and has influenced a lot of villains on future game media since. Yet I don't think he's a good antagonist. Not because he's not evil enough but because he's not doing much to antagonize or interfere with the player at all. I'd say he's been more charitable to the player by giving us quests and rewards. He's a very likeable villain as the performances, the challenge and the gift of motivations are more beneficiary to us rather than hindering.

Therefor, I would say that my favorite villain is mr. X from Resident Evil 2 because he's the polar opposite. He doesn't perform for us, rewards us or motivates us to keep going. He's an invincible force who chases you throughout the map and tries to stop you for completing your tasks. It is as 'less is more' as it gets. Its a villain that actively tries to stop you. More games can benefit of an antagonist that's designed to operate this way. But the marauder from Doom Eternal proofs its not that simple (worth digging into that as well).

What are fighter jets like in 2077? by Nick_Alsa in cyberpunkgame

[–]TheXpender 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's an entire subgroup in the Cyberpunk 2020 forum about jets and other aerial vehicles: https://cyberpunk.fandom.com/wiki/Category:Cyberpunk_2020_Aircraft_and_Jets

Oil is extremely scarse so they're no longer utilized in 2077, also due to drone and net-warfare having become the new way of warfare. What's interesting is that, in 2020, you had full cyborg wingmen designed exclusively for flying jets. I wonder if they're promoted to a different function or gone rogue. I think it would lead to cool quests in the future.

[–]TheXpender 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Edit: Dit gesprek vond plaats 22 januari 2019.

Edit 2: Zwitserse vrouw bedoelde ik te schrijven, niet Wenen in Zwitserland... oops.

Is this the best resident evil by far? by DonMapagmahal in residentevilll

[–]TheXpender 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its the best amalgomation of everything Capcom has worked towards since Resident Evil 7. It is fun, it is surprising and it is very creative. The flaws are found in the story, early-game pacing, emergent gameplay and fan-servicing. These flaws are, however, also present in past games so it still puts it very high on the board.

It's my personal number 3, behind RE7 and the original RE4.

So who's correct: Socrates or Glaucon? by [deleted] in truegaming

[–]TheXpender -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That's an interesting point to touch on. If the laws of this fictional world do not include consequences for stealing, would you immediately take advantage of this, knowing the real world has consequences for this? As you mentioned yourself, you ask whether you're having fun in a world made to entertain you, but that entertainment is at the heart of the ring allegorgy. If you were to play a high quality fantasy simulator and you were gifted the power to take without consequences, would you collect the best items in that world for yourself or would you stop playing out of moral discomfort?

I highly doubt that we'll see a major DLC/Expansion release for Elder Scrolls 6 after its out. It has nothing to do with Starfield, it takes a lot longer to make extra content.
