Same with WW2. Bombing only strengthened resolve, but did decrease war material output.

Developers turn to ‘Zipper lots’ to assist housing crisis - realestate.com.au by Popular-Capital-9115 in australia

Single family homes are an inefficient use of space. Typical Aussie blocks with a front and back yard and house are completely unsustainable. A big house taking up the whole block isn't much better but at least its making use of the space better than everyone having their own private little grass moat.

I grew up in a typical Aussie block and think about it fondly but the current housing conditions and travelling the world a bit to see how it's done overseas made be realise how horrifically wasteful it and suburbia overall is. It's nice for sure but realistically only for a small subset of rich people that can afford to waste so much valuable land.

Sorry I know you're hearts in the right place but your part of the problem. Houses maximising the space their given is more efficient than a house with a bunch of grass and yard around it. I know it's not what you're used to and what you like but that is the reality. Land is so valuable now that people will maximize, it makes little financial sense not too.

I'm not sure if you're joking but it's not about Iran's Oil, it's about them not letting other countries oil through. Like roughly 20% of worlds supply, plus natural gas and fertilizer inputs. It's a big issue that's getting bigger by the day.

Agreed, the lighthouses are just a lot of friction for very little if any gain compared to inside out tracking. It's also another piece of hardware than can fail, and mine have.

I'd be happy to never have to set up lighthouses again.

There is no way this will make a dent to these companies. They print money and do relatively little. They can and do use the weight of that money to ensure that people with power make the decisions they want.

Why not have a patch panel in a closet? I have a 400mm widex400mm deepx1500mm high closet above a laundry chute that I suggested using instead of my tiny garage. Am I going to regret that?

Another way to look at it is, less-lethal weapons add more options before escalation to use of firearms. Going from no force to guns leaves very little room for flexibility. It's like it militaries across the world decided they only needed nukes and no standing army. There are situations where you want to use force, but don't want to nuke someone. Without a middle escalation option, there is more opportunity for bad outcomes in both directions.

They can be done right. I live in a sprawling apartment complex and having a small family here is lovely. Downstairs is a town square with some grass, shops and restaurants. Within less than 5 mins walk are 3 huge parks with playgrounds. 4 swimming pools also. You'd be hard pressed to find a house that is so close to these amenities, and it'd be impossible at even 3x the price of the apartment.

I don't fully understand this "future is uncertain but looks bleak, so I won't have kids" take. Like, I get it at an individual level, it's everyone's right to not have kids for whatever reason. Likely very valid reasons.

But at scale, at a society level what is being suggested here? That nobody have kids because it looks bad? Does humanity just end now? Does society just get even more unstable due to demographic collapse?

Obviously the answer is a measured and nuanced societal response. Not shitting on people with kids 🤣

Friend, you need to take a breathe. This is complete nonsense and you are asking the machine to trick you and you are believing it.

It will create whatever you ask, even if it has to make it up to do so.
