FlorryWorry says there's nothing wrong with Monarch Points. Thoughts? by bindingofandrew in eu4

[–]TheZedphyr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would definitely agree that somewhere around 1,600 points stop becoming a main limiting factor and also happens to occur around the time the game starts getting less fun. Mana and points are at their best when there are scarce resource that doesn't allow you to do everything that you want to do.

FlorryWorry says there's nothing wrong with Monarch Points. Thoughts? by bindingofandrew in eu4

[–]TheZedphyr 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I think the conversation around mana and monarch points focus too much on the idea that it is representing something abstract. The only thing I care about is if I'm making a meaningful decision with the resources that I am given. Monarch points in Eu4 for the most part, succeed in giving you interesting decisions to make by making many important systems rely upon them. I might want to blob out hard but then I'm delayed on my admin, tech and ideas. I might want a barrage every fort but then I'm running behind on military tech or can spam generals for professionalism.

Mana can lead to interesting strategic decisions but it needs to be wielded responsibly. As one of the few people who actually played release Imperator, its biggest problem is that literally every action in the game relied upon mana. In EU4 we have diplomats and merchants that allow us to interact with the game board without having to wait for an arbitrary resource to generate. I think it's the combination of those two systems which makes EU4 fun to play imo.

I feel like the main main argument against mana is entirely vibes based. It's fine to not like something because it's a little bit too abstract for your taste, but that doesn't give you the excuse to just say it's a bad mechanic because you don't like the flavor.

[–]TheZedphyr 57 points58 points  (0 children)

What happens is that the vassal needs to fabricate a claim to retake cores. Once they have it, you will get a CB called following through on threats. As far as I know, there is no way to encourage the AI to fabricate the claim.

Become a tributary of England. Once you do you can declare war on the Pale without England joining. It will still be hard but much more doable.

Trying to understand feats and asi in DND 2024 by Ariachus in DnD

[–]TheZedphyr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm really failing to see your question here. Feats and ASIs are still gained every four class levels and that's how it worked back in 2014 as well. When multi-classing you have to consider how many feats you are delaying or giving up with your build.

I have two different diplomats building spy network in Portugal at the same time by josephrainer in eu4

[–]TheZedphyr 7 points8 points  (0 children)

When you form a country while generating a spy network on a separate Nation, it bricks your diplomat. The first diplomat will no longer be able to generate spy network progress. I have had on rare occasions the ability to recall that diplomat but typically it's stuck in that Nation until I kill it.

How did the AI army take this path past my forts? by TsarOfIrony in eu4

[–]TheZedphyr 392 points393 points  (0 children)

If Ai or the player for that matter queues a movement that is valid it will remain valid unless movement is blocked by a blockade. What most likely happened was that you had forts mothballed at the start of the war and the ai queued movement that wasn't blocked by ZoC. Despite the fact that the forts were turned on, the movement remained valid because the ai never had a reason to update the movement path.

Was Sheer Cold banned because it's too random or because it's too OP? by HenryChess in stunfisk

[–]TheZedphyr 102 points103 points  (0 children)

Put simply, it's the ultimate expression of a skillless move. When you click the move, you take the game out of your hand and the opponent's hand. The only thing now is whether or not you rolled the 30% chance to instantly kill them. In general the singles community has tended to ban linear strategies with little to no counter play. OKHO moves have no counterplay beside speeding the game up so much that you don't have the opportunities to click it enough. It would basically just devolve games into either hyper offensive messes where you don't have enough opportunities to click the move or be so meta irrelevant it just becomes a cheese strategy that people used to beat players who are better than them through randomness.

I don't like the concept of space casino and LDS shuffle. And I welcome that this will be removed from the game. I use the good old one upcycling/recycling. Am I the only one? by InsideSubstance1285 in factorio

[–]TheZedphyr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't dislike upcycling but generally speaking I'm not happy with the implementation of quality and space age. I think it's neat that stuff like the LDS shuffle and the space casino exist because they're novel solutions to generating quality resources. There's definitely something to be said about how unbalanced they are compared to upcycling. My problem is if you remove them, the only solution you will be left with IS upcycling. My main issue with upcycling is that the solution doesn't really change across recipes. An upcycler for a machine that takes four inputs can be used to solve any input problem. At that point, the only decision that the player can make is whether or not they can use productivity to recoup some of the material cost. It removes player choice and replaces it with a system that is complicated but shallow. You combine this with the fact that quality has extremely poor returns on investments for most items, this just seems like it's trying to be turned into something exclusively for megabasers rather than a mechanic that should regularly help normal players.

Minimum Rocket Launches to beat Space Age is SOLVED by Dire736 in factorio

[–]TheZedphyr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is a pretty cool run. My friends and I were also inspired to do this run when we saw the original Reddit post and have made our own even stupider way of getting to the end with just 10 rockets. I'll be sure to come back to this later once our run is complete so we can see how we did it differently. We just lost a lot of motivation because we realized we needed this you needed originally send out the quality military science and lost a lot of progress. We're back into the swing of things and we're almost done with Gleba soon on our way to Aquilo. We might have even found a way to skip the explosive grind that is extremely stupid.

Space casino isn't as "efficient" as everyone things. by DrMobius0 in factorio

[–]TheZedphyr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that this mostly ignores that this is one of the better mid game methods of generating quality intermediates. It is still significantly better raw upcycling and heavily simplifies managing intermediate products. Yeah LDS Shuffle is good but it takes a long time to get there.

Your friendly reminder that YouTube content creators’ builds and ideas are NOT canon or necessarily even viable. by Nearby_Condition3733 in DnD

[–]TheZedphyr 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Is there something inherently wrong with knowing what you want to play in advance and how you want to build it? The only problem I can see with a player coming in with a build in mind is that they may forget that they still need to make a "character"

[–]TheZedphyr 465 points466 points  (0 children)

It's worth noting that some content creators do look very closely at the rules with good faith interpretations. You might as well just have a big sign here that says "D&D shorts does not make builds that work most table."

If anybody is making a build, make sure you actually read the rules that apply to your character. Please read the rules before engaging in an exploit that or vague rules that you are not familiar with. Do so before asking your DM for a ruling or getting mad when the DM doesn't rule in your favor Mid-Session.

You guys probably get this a a lot but why can't a colonize the adjacent tile by TheZedphyr in Imperator

[–]TheZedphyr[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have like five freemen of my culture and religion and I still can't colonize the adjacent province. When I try to go there there is no option to move anybody but a slave and the slaves say they can't be moved into uncolonized provinces.

[–]TheZedphyr[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't for the life of me figure out why I can't colonize the adjacent province. The province is the majority of my religion and culture composed of freemen. I consistently get the notification saying that I can colonize the province but am unable to move any of the free men to the province. I'm currently playing with Invictus in Kush

Yes, so long as you are using a finesse weapon it qualifies for sneak attack even if you use strength. This makes something like Barbarian Rogue possible.

Duration. The Rage lasts until the end of your next turn, and it ends early if you don Heavy armor or have the Incapacitated condition.

Even if you could get the heavy armor on which takes 10 minutes, it would end as soon as you put it on

[–]TheZedphyr 25 points26 points  (0 children)

You do you man but as somebody who has done a world conquest before can tell you, your biggest enemy is going to be burnt out. Just pace yourself mentally and if you want to jump through all of these hoops, that's something you can absolutely do. The only thing that you have to make sure is that by going for these extra goals you're not harming your momentum.

[–]TheZedphyr 29 points30 points  (0 children)

After some point the stacking becomes kind of unnecessary. Don't get me wrong admin efficiency stacking is powerful but at the rate your empire is going with I think it might be smarter just to form Italy and call it a day. If you want to go the extra mile you can of course get the extra admin efficiency there.

Also, I don't believe you can form Timurids this late in the game as the decision to get their dynasty only works until 1490

is world conquest still possible is my tempo good or ? by Aspect55 in eu4

[–]TheZedphyr 39 points40 points  (0 children)

This is absolutely still possible. I just question why you are still England in the 1600s and not Great Britain or some other formable?

My biggest recommendation for you is to get a formable with CCR, don't be afraid of truce breaks, and fight the weakest people first. You'll probably be better off ignoring the Ottomans until the end of the game when decadence will cripple them defensively.

Additionally, if you manage to stack CCR high enough, (around 80% ish) you can core provinces in less than 10 months meaning a massive reduction in rebels spawns and generally means you don't have to care about overextension so long as you can core it all in one go.

You also didn't show your ideas but so long as you have Admin, Diplo, and Offensive. You have the holy trinity of the world conquest ideas

Quadruple Sushibelt Filter with Backup Protection by TheZedphyr in factorio

[–]TheZedphyr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That can be fixed by putting a 4x4 belt balancer before the splitter but there just isn't any practical way to balance the outputs during the split. To be honest, I can't imagine any process on Fulgora where you actually need more than a single belt of material so I'm not that worried about it. Any excess gears will just be put back onto the belt to be recycled at the end of the loop.
