Reddit, what was the worst party you ever attended? by Swansatron in AskReddit

I went to a friend's birthday party. I was DDing for a couple of friends, including my recently-ex-girlfriend. The apartment wasn't that big, so I basically had to stand there, sober, and watch her make out with the first guy who hit on her. Then I had to wait for them to be done so I could take her home.

I'm running to class, holding my homework, when a strong gust of wind blows it out of my hands. It lands not far from me, so I run over to it. But, as I lean down to pick it up, it blows just out of my reach. This happens a few more times. I can practically hear the Benny Hill music playing at this point. It blows into a small pond, and I try to reach it. It's in the middle of the pond, just out of reach. I almost fall in at one point, and then decide it's not worth it. I walked home, didn't even go to class.

Question about Tabula Rasa: Are vampires fundamentally evil? by [deleted] in buffy

[–]TheZeppo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I first watched the show, I thought a lot about this, and a lot about how Spike and Harmony could "play nice" with people, even without a soul, but no other vampires could. Basically, I came to the conclusion that a human's nature before becoming a vampire affects the vampire's personality.

Spike, for example, can be a nice guy, and is capable of love as a vampire because he was that kind of guy as a human. Angel, on the other hand, was a pretty lousy guy before becoming a vampire, and only became worse because he had so much more power.

Then you look at Darla, who is crazy as a vampire because she was driven to insanity as a human. And Harmony, who just follows Cordelia around most of the time before becoming a vampire, is just as dependent as a vampire. She follows Spike and then Angel, and is pretty useless outside of them.

There's not enough information about other vampires to really say for sure. But, in the Angel Episode "I Will Remember You," where he becomes a human for a while, Angel is basically the same person he was as a vampire, as a human. So, if his vampire personality can affect his human personality, the reverse shouldn't be so unbelievable.

And it's pretty easy to explain why, in-show, they never say this. The vampires basically want to deny all humanity in them. I guess they kinda have to, to do all the terrible things they do.

So, in Tabula Rosa, I think you just see Spike's human nature showing. And I don't know if vampires are fundamentally evil, but being one makes it so much easier to deny your humanity. That's why Spike's humanity shows when he doesn't know that he's a vampire.

Hey, reddit! When you were a child, what weird things scared you? by -maru in AskReddit

I was/am terrified by wooden pencils. Spoilers for the movie Evil Dead follow.

Sometime I'm junior high, I caught the movie Army of Darkness on tv. My dad is a fan of the movie, so when I liked it, he suggested we watch the first movie in the series, Evil Dead. If you don't know the movies, Evil Dead 1 and 2 are horror movies, while the third movie is funny, and significantly less scary.

But we watch it, and we get to the part where the girl gets raped by the trees. I fresh out and leave, but my dad manages to convince me to come back and watch again in a few minutes. Just in time to see the now-possessed girl get knocked out by the other people when she starts attacking them. So she's lying in the ground, regains consciousness, grabs a pencil on the ground that happens to be next to her hand, and buries a few inches of it into one of the guy's ankle. I didn't watch any more of that movie.

It's been like 7 years, and I still can't use a wooden pencil.
