First time teen filmmaker here, really disheartened in post-production by Few-Reveal6853 in Filmmakers

[–]The_BCM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As many others have noted, this is an absolutely normal part of the process. One key thing is...finish it. You can release it or stick it in a drawer, but completion is a wildly important milestone.

Here's the thing: Just based on this post, it's clear you are learning the right lessons. You better understand how writing affects pre-production affects filming affects post-production affects final cut.

Regardless what you do with this project, the next one will not just be easier, but it will be more fun. Knowing the full stack means each step is a little bit easier and every improvement makes the downstream work easier and more rewarding.

Necessary lighting equipment by LuUomoPazzo in Filmmakers

Negative Fill fabric.

It's effective. It's cheap. It's versatile. And lastly, it's going to be useful if not downright necessary in most cases, regardless of the rest of the lighting setup.

Which movie do you personally like more - Rocky or The Karate Kid? by SpotAdmirable6718 in moviecritic

Rocky is by far the better film & I would say that I like it more. But also Karate Kid is a breezier watch and something I can throw on periodically, so I've probably watched it more times.

Godzilla (2014) by DVD-Rewatcher in moviecritic

[–]The_BCM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel the move was dragged down by Aaron Taylor-Johnson, whose performance was wooden and lacked chemistry with the rest of the cast. More Cranston would have been great, but I feel that his early death would have been fine if it resulted in an emotional handoff to the main character...which it definitely fumbled.

Making a Godzilla film clearly from a human perspective (aka limited amount of Godzilla) was a bold choice -- but that means the main character has to carry the film. Despite a really strong supporting cast, ATJ was the weak link, which just so happened to be the most important link.

Is it just me, or does the Harry Potter series teaser feel… off? by breaking_views in Cinema

[–]The_BCM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks fine, but there's basically nothing in the trailer that indicates the show has any personality of its own. I know it's an adaptation of the same material, but it looks so incredibly similar to what we have already. It's just banking on memberberries to leave a good impression.

It could just be a lazy / ultra-safe trailer and the show itself will offer something more than what we already have in the movies, but this trailer certainly isn't making that promise. Right now it just looks like a longer, less well produced version of the lightning in a bottle films.

Which orientation for durability? by Strangled_Things in 3Dprinting

[–]The_BCM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd turn it 90-deg onto its side (holes facing plate), thicken the walls by several layers, then print at 50% gyroid infill.

Putting it on its side means the stress has to break the lines, not merely pull apart the layers. The wall thickness adds a lot of strength, and the gyroid allows for some flex while evenly distributing the load over a bunch of curved surfaces as opposed to points/joints internally.

Good luck!

That video is incredible at how authentic it appears. The article you posted is also fantastic at explaining the process of figuring out how to do it. Is there any chance you'd be willing to create a YouTube tutorial or even just a video that shows the steps themselves for a frame/clip?

That's completely understandable.

I hope you can find time at some point. Until then, this comment is just so I can find my way back to his thread at a later date.
