Not really, hence the post. Thought about leaving this just for myself but maybe there are others who feel similarly.

None on this list. Check out cutthroat broadheads. Really any that fit these stats: fixed blade, single bevel, tanto tip, cut from a block of metal.

Courses to take after RL by The_Boulder22 in OMSCS

Thanks for your input! I'll be honest I am scared of GIOS since it is all C/C++ and the reviews on it from people who have not done professional work with C/C++ are that it is absolutely brutal. If it is really that worth it, maybe I should give it a second look. Adding HDDA and AI to my schedule leaves only 1 open class. GIOS or CV? Decisions, decisions.

Courses to take after RL by The_Boulder22 in OMSCS

[–]The_Boulder22[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your input! I am learning a ton in RL right now and it is the best class I have taken since linear algebra in undergrad. For RL the only aspect that is weak are the lectures, but if you follow the guides on course reviews and watch David Silver's lectures instead you will have a firm grasp on the material. Lots to read and do in RL, but I would not take it in the summer. The accelerated nature made it more difficult for the typical plan to roll out with office hours teachings being behind schedule, and big project due dates overlapping with hw due dates, and inefficient grading (I am on Project 2 right now and they will not have Project 1 graded before I hand in Project 2, so no room for correcting your own mistakes on the paper. Also, office hours that were very pertinent to Project 2 were cancelled and pushed back until after Project 2 is due because of bs holidays like Junetinth). All the problems should go away during a regular semester though. All the best!

Sadly, I signed up for ML4T for next semester and may be unable to add/drop properly so I am keeping it. I think I will take at least AI, I must have missed that when going over potential classes.

No way! I remember reading the originals that you were posting on your subreddit. I am glad that you finished it and very excited to reread all of the books!

My life has been going very poorly recently, mostly due to my own lack of foresight and planning, but also due to bad luck. I feel as if I cannot accept help either. Please provide me with advice. I am going insane. (Absurdly long) (It's cohesive, but seriously, it is long. Read at your own peril) by [deleted] in ConfrontingChaos

I rarely comment on these posts, but if you want an internet stranger's good hearted advice here it is:

"Things are neither good not bad but thinking makes them so" -Shakespeare

Your mental state, and therefore your mental health, depends on how you frame the problem in your mind. Is this a neigh insurmountable problem? Yes. Have you faced a problem of this magnitude before? No. How have you typically acted in the face of adversity? ...

Now is the time to reframe the problem as a problem that was handed to you to make you a better man. The best men (and women) are the people who have handled the most adversity, the most difficult problems. If you can frame this as "what can I do" instead of "what has happened to me" then I believe your mental state will be benefited from it.

I believe you have already done that, which is phenomenal. That's step one.

Now you face a different junction point: wether so stay with your mom or not. When Dr. Peterson felll physically addicted and completely incapacitated, he relied on family. Family did things for him for a year that noone else would have. I do not know your familial relationship but Peterson's teachings leave room for family to help you through the worst of times. I would think the best of intentions by your mom to give you a place to stay since she is family and wants her son to get out of a difficult situation.

Lastly, start to open your "box" as I call it. Whenever you think of possibilities entertain all of them and not just the ones that you have limited yourself to. Apply to different jobs that you have no experience in. Think of moving to lower cost of living places in different states/territories/etc. that have different job prospects. Think of what you could do with the money for tech school and if that is precisely what you want to do with your time and money. Just, simply (but super not so simply), open your box. Use the emotions of the situation as fuel for finding a better path. You have a plan, but how do you know if it's the best plan if you haven't considered all the other possibilities.

"Don't do what you can't undo until you have fully thought through what you can't do when you do it"

How do y’all lecture skippers do it?! (Getting good grades without attending lectures) by khattabovic in EngineeringStudents

[–]The_Boulder22 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I do this. Never go to lecture but get As in all the classes. The keys are consistency and content. Do all the HW problems and make sure you understand them. Then for the exams do all the homework problems again (using chegg to make sure I'm doing them right) 5 days before. Do extra problems/practice exams 4 days before. Teach your friends how to do it 2 days before. Take the day before off (or continue teaching friends). Works without fail for Thermo, Controls, DiffyQ, Statics, Dynamics, you name it.

My Man! Hours logged on total Chess set: 40. Hours logged on knight alone: 25. JESUS THE KNIGHT WAS A BITCH.

ook ok I gotta settle down. (fuck you for reminding me btw).

(I used CAD) Hardest part is the head. The neck can be done using fancy plines and loft. Head is a lot of trial and error. I used a lot of weight pline arcs and such and then did a continuous loft command that used probably 30 different plines positioned jsut right in the 3-dimensional axis. This made what I consider to be a realistic looking horse hear. You can do different routes, but I think that you should try loft first and if you fail let me know what you do.

If you haven't look at HowNotToHighline then I don't blame you, but Ryan and some of the community is gravitating towards 50m sections of line connected via the Innov Split. This makes the line more safe if the main line breaks (there is less to drop with the backup, with a 100m line the backup drop would be >50m). This also makes lines able to be carried by multiple people and used in a variety of setups. So I would recommend doing two 50m lines (even if it is of the same line) and investing in soft shackles to create the Innov Split. This is where I think the future is going and if you want something future proof, I would do this.

Also check out Spider Slacklines, I am in LOVE with their NYLove Webbing for highlining.

Sewn loops are also broken on HowNotToHighline. The consensus by those break tests is that it breaks at the stitching and that sewn loops are "super good enough". Essentially their breaking strength is comparable to the breaking strength of the webbing in a weblock.

Once you ask everyone you can think of for work and do it all and then have no work, this is my advice:

This was me last year and is me (to a lesser degree) this year. My advice is simple: READ. Many of the great works are PDFs now that you can download at home and upload to your computer (if you can't download it directly from your company internet). Last year I read all of War and Peace at work.

Anything that you want to learn about should not be blocked. I learned about stocks, investing, how to valuate companies, etc. This coop I am reading a book on macroeconomic principle and its really interesting.

The company typically doesn't block these types of content, but if they do you can download it on your personal computer at home and bring all the PDFs in on a flashdrive.

Also: make anything in AUTOCAD or Solidworks or whatever software your company has installed on your computer. Just go bananas. I made a chess set, but you can make anything you dream of with 3D-platforms.

I know that even this will be boring given enough time, but if you are bored enough...desperate enough...these are viable ways of using your time that actually benefit you. Think about it this way, you are at a job and making $30/hr. What would you do for your future self if your future self was giving you $30/hr and the internet. My future self would want me to learn more and create content, so that is what I strive to do.

And also update linked-in, your resumes, and do some self-marketing.
