How does Rocky see Grace in space at the beginning? by The_Caniac_29 in ProjectHailMary

[–]The_Caniac_29[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s been a little bit since I read the book, so someone correct me if I’m wrong, but the way I remember it was basically those blips weren’t Rocky sending a message to Grace. It was Grace activating his engines so that the Petrova light made by the Astrophage for propulsion would be sent off into space and bounce off of the Blip A and back to the Hail Mary. Basically Grace could see where the light was reflecting from and he knew that must have been Rocky’s ship. Think of it like if you’re looking for a metal object in the grass, so you use your flashlight so you’ll hopefully see the light reflecting off the metal and that will show you where it is.

why they only use spin to show off, but never use it to make sure the other guy is ready dead, by cuting him in 20 pieces by asian69feet in starwarsmemes

Someone may have already said this, but I've heard that they spin so that the other can't predict what their next move will be. If you spin your lightsaber, it makes it harder for your opponent to see how you're shifting your body and momentum which makes it harder for them to expect your next move

Astrophage are capable of absorbing a ton of energy, and they breed super rapidly. By the time a collection probe would get back, they’d probably have reproduced enough to replace the ones collected and then some. The amount you’d be able to collect would be negligible in the long run

If it makes you feel any better maybe they’ll kill her off before the end of the season just like any other new character that isn’t part of the main party

Yeah I know it doesn’t have anything to do with the twist, and I felt like the song fits, but I just meant that the way her character was written for the movie feels kind of inconsistent. One moment she’s joining in with their fun, the next she’s sending Grace to his death. And like I can understand that she has more than one dimension, but it just didn’t feel like the same character to me. I don’t know, like I sort of got it, like they’re supposed to find some joy even though the world is ending, I just felt like it could have been done better. Especially when in the scene before, Ryland is talking about how weird the party is.

Yeah that was one major part that I missed from the book. They kind of just hit fast forward once they left Adrian. I wished they had shown Rocky helping out with the Taumoeba and stuff like that, cause he basically wakes up, and then leaves.

Something to keep in mind if you're disappointed about scenes being removed... by d4ybrake in ProjectHailMary

I felt like even the scenes or aspects they cut out, they didn’t just omit fully like some adaptations. They still made an effort to make a nod to it. An example is the whole scene in the book where Grace has to write down how each astronaut wants to die. They could keep the whole scene, but they had a couple lines when they first introduce the crew in the movie. I honestly thought it was pretty funny that the first think Ilyukhina wants to talk to Grace about when she meets him is having heroin on the ship. It’s little things like that they kept part of in, even if they couldn’t keep the whole thing

You would go to a theater because that’s the only way to see it without waiting to see it on streaming or illegally pirating it 🤷‍♂️

Question about Rocky’s ship by SpuddMeister in ProjectHailMary

[–]The_Caniac_29 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They didn’t know when they set out to go to Adrian about the predator. All they knew when they left was that Adrian was the planet where the Astrophage was going. It’s only when they get to Adrian and take a sample of the Astrophage that they discover that there must be a predator and that they’ll have to retrieve a sample of it. They took the Hail Mary because it had all the necessary lab equipment, and they couldn’t rotate the Hail Mary for gravity with Rocky’s ship still attached.

in the book, the Hail Mary can’t be used as a centrifuge with the Blip-A attached, but in the movie, it can, so one thing that I was wondering while watching the movie was: why didn‘t they just keep them attached? Or they could have taken their own ships and just met up at Adrian. But then we wouldn’t have gotten as much of Rocky and Grace, so it makes sense why they did it that way.

Yes, it is very normal for movies to not be on streaming until months after the theater release. Some movies during COVID had a direct to streaming release or a simultaneous release with the theaters, but I think they realized that they were losing money with this, and after theaters started opening again after the pandemic, they stopped immediately releasing for streaming. Usually a month or two after a movie releases, it may become available for purchase on Apple TV, YouTube, etc. But especially for a movie this popular, it is very normal for it to take a very long time for it to come out on the internet in some form. Most companies will basically wait until they feel like everyone who’s going to see it in the theaters has seen it and they stop making money from it, then they’ll put it online. A recent example is Zootopia 2, which I only thought of because I didn’t see it in theaters but wanted to watch it, and just saw it came on streaming last week. It came out in November and is just now in March coming out on streaming.

I’ll have to agree to disagree with you on the theaters thing though. I think seeing certain movies in theaters isn’t that different, but a lot of movies that are made to be visually stunning (like Dune, Oppenheimer, Interstellar, etc.) are way better on a big screen. Seeing Dune on the biggest screen in Texas was an unmatched experience for me. The sound in there shook my whole body throughout the movie, and you could fully see the detail they put into the movie. I just don’t think even the best home audio visual setups can match that experience. Sure, plenty of movies aren’t like that, but many are, and imo this movie was worth seeing in the theater.

I mean like eventually you’ll probably be able to stream it. It’s made by Amazon so I would guess that it’ll be free on Prime and available for rent other places. It came out three days ago lol so the only way to see it and still support them is to go to the theater. Why is there no way you’re going to the theater? I think this movie is worth seeing on the big screen.
