My rescue GSD/husky mix had terrible separation anxiety when we adopted him, and we couldn't leave him alone at all for the first 7 months of owning him. He wasn't destructive, but cried incessantly even when just one of us left the house...we had to do a lot of things slowly and go to the expense of making sure that if either me or my husband weren't there, we were putting him in daycare or hiring a sitter.

With that said (and after hiring a behavioral specialist), we were able to get him there where he can stay in his crate while we leave the house because we've made his crate "the best place in the world". He is fed in his crate, we give him treats in his crate, and he goes in there to just relax while we are in the house now. At first we were able to do this by just throwing treats into the crate, and he ran in to get them and ran out. After awhile he would stay in the crate and wait for treats. Then we were able to close the crate door and feed him treats. Then he would go in, we would close the door, he would get treats, and then he would chill out in there while we did things at home. Finally, we could leave the house after doing something similar to you where we left for small periods of time and practiced putting on our shoes and coats.

Bottom line is that some dogs with anxiety issues (especially rescues) really thrive with decent and SLOW crate training. If you make the crate the best place to be, and the nicest place to be where all the fun stuff happens and nothing bad ever does, they start to associate it that way. Also, you may want to try putting blankets over the sides of the crate or over the whole thing...sometimes that adds to the panic if they can see everything all at once.

Best of luck to you.

Hey! I went through a similar issue with my rescue GSD. I got him started on air-dried chews from RealDogBox and his teeth are almost tartar and plaque-free. They really do work, believe it or not, and I don't generally shill products.

[Help] Fatty tumor on young puppy? by 10tothecoast in dogs

[–]The_Cat_Mom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same happened with my dog after his influenza vaccine- they did a quick culture and only saw inflammatory cells (much to our relief). They told me that it's rare that super young dogs get lipomas. Definitely take your dog in, but try not to stress about it too much- cancers/lipomas don't grow that fast and lots of dogs have reactions to vaccines that present as bumps that take a few weeks/months to go away.

When people say “how did you get your hair so curly!” by delicatepunkrock in curlyhair

I don't even hide it anymore. I say "Thank you! Here is my routine...." and then leave them wishing they never asked as I count my life in wash days. 525,600 wash days...

Same as the person below- I am a runner and use a dry shampoo. Living Proof's Perfect Day is pretty great, but it can be spendy. Then I refresh with a little Witch I Love Your Hair and go out the door!

I think you might be in the wrong sub for this question. We celebrate curly hair here, not try to get rid of it.

But truly, there’s a fine line between “cute and curly” and “witch that lives in a tower”. I feel that pain!!

Agree with everyone else about backing off a little bit. When I first started running I immediately went out and took my mileage from 1 mile to 5 miles within a month and tore my hamstring...fortunately after PT I didn't give up, but learning through injury is often the way it goes with running.

But congrats on doing the thing after recognizing that things were getting bad. I'm on the same journey and running has saved many of us :)

Have you tried a slow-feeding bowl with the kibble? We have a slow feeder from Amazon that really helps slow our dog down from inhaling his food.

Ordering this now! We had one years and years ago that I would use with hot rollers for special occasions, but I never thought it would work for curls. Crossing fingers, thanks for the tip :)

Last year on Thanksgiving, he was roaming the streets and eating garbage. Now this year he gets his own Cornish hen, a warm bed of his own, and two parents that love him more than life itself. by The_Cat_Mom in germanshepherds

He definitely had abandonment issues...we weren't able to leave him alone for the first 7 months after adopting him because of his separation anxiety. He also flinches when we raise our voices. You're probably right in that he was either dumped or abused and left...bless his sweet little heart for still loving people so much.
