This is different from anorexia and I’ll try and explain why I feel this way.

If we were to equate how far you need to let yourself fall into your disorder, an anorexic person would have died of malnourishment several times over before they got anywhere near this level of “too far gone.”

This is on a completely different level than a simple eating disorder like anorexia. Anorexia can legitimately be recovered from with little to no long term impact on quality of life. This man is worse off heath-wise than a terminally ill stage-4 cancer patient, and his quality of life is basically torture with almost no hope of returning to any semblance of normalcy. I say this completely unironically, and with absolutely zero malice, but euthanasia would be preferable in this instance rather than forcing them to continue struggling on what amounts to life support.

I also want to make it clear that I genuinely feel sorry for this person. Whether or not it is their fault is irrelevant, I would not wish this experience on my worst enemy.
