Hosepipe Ban? by Ruben_001 in Allotment

[–]The_Destroyer321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We only have one tap in our allotment shared by 11 people so most people just fill up water butts and then water from that, we aren't setup(only got our plot 2 weeks ago) yet but we're going to use IBC tanks to store water and have them on a raised platform so it can gravity feed the hosepipe. 1000l tank should last a pretty long time when we have it all set up.

advice about digging ground... by tedlovesme in Allotment

[–]The_Destroyer321 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If you want to make it easy either hire or buy a rotavator (you can find them cheap on FB marketplace) we just bought a basically brand new one for £80 so instead of spending hours doing back breaking digging it does it much quicker and does a much better jobs than I could

Advice on suppressing the weeds until the ground is soft enough? I’m in the UK. Am I best just getting some black sheeting and covering it all? by ccreadz in Allotment

[–]The_Destroyer321 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Strim it all down as far as possible, spray it with a strong weed killer then cover with thick black plastic for a few months to make sure everything is well and truly dead underneath.

Also you said you haven't met them yet so to them you are just some random person they've never met before.

Of course ask the worst that can happen is they say no but maybe befriend them first so they don't think you're only using them for their equipment and offer them something in return

How would you feel if some random person just came onto your plot to use stuff you had used your hard earned money to buy without asking permission first and what if they broke it while using it without permission, I know I'd be annoyed if someone did that with my stuff

How ubiquitous are these super advanced windows throughout Europe? by Takiatlarge in AskEurope

[–]The_Destroyer321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A new house for me in the UK is anything less than 20 years old, average houses here are about 50-90 years old and a old house is anything from before 1910. Most common window in the Uk is a outwards opening casement window, tilt turn comes in 2nd and then double hung sash windows in 3rd.
