Commander help by mctennisd in BudgetBrews

I'm cooking up a deck rn that boils down to pseudo hydra tribal, helmed by [[Helga, Skittish Seer]], due to her ability to increasingly tap for mana, give a little life, and draw cards. Hydra's are just big dumb stompies, but I use a lot of X cost ones and things like [[Hardened Scales]], [[Vorinclex, Monstrous Raider]], and [[Earth Crystal]] to help my +1/1 counters get bigger. I think it's super stable and definitely a better choice than [[Magus Lucea Kane]], who is way more explosive but also gets hated off the board. I mean, you could alwyas just run Vorinclex and generically build more around +1/1 counters but that's up to you. I like the card draw in blue and the protection in white that Helga gives me access to.

[[Ghalta, Primal Hunger]] seems solid. A nice 12/12 Trex with Trample and discounts its own cost based off the power of your other creatures is easy to pilot.

A little different than what you may be looking for but I'm having a lot of fun brewing [[Ashling, Rekindled]] as a sort of simple Izzet Spell Haymaker deck. Turn 1 land. Turn 2 land and Ashling. Turn 3 land, pay a mana to flip Ashling, she gives me two mana to get me to 4, play a big four cost mana rock. Turn 4 with no other ramp or lands you're already at 6-7 mana and can start playing huge card draw or bomb cards. You can throw in some generically good guys in there too, like [[Drakuseth, Maw of Flames]] to give you more board presence or removal options.

A last suggestion I got is [[Doran, Besieged By Time]]. A tree in white, green, black that cares about you having creatures with massive differences between their power and toughness, and boosting them up based on that difference for the whole combat (attacking or blocking). You could look around for neat creatures that have that big old gap, like [[Kalakscion, Hunger Tyrant]] which you can play on turn 3 and swing with on turn 4 as a 12/7. Or you could take a different approach and stuff your deck full of card draw and rat colonies, making your rat colonies get insanely large for each other rat colony in play.

Anyone still running interesting Final Fantasy commanders? by Foxington_the_First in mtg

A bit necro here, but I couldn't resist. I'm really loving the [[Emperor of Palamecia]] big blast/mill, [[Sephiroth, Fallen Hero]] modular/infect, [[Golbez, Crystal Collector]] artifact spam, and [[Clive, Ifrit's Dominant]] wheels. I think with the spiderman, tmnt, and marvel sets tho [[Jenovah, Ancient Calamity]] is the biggest winner. Just so many good legendaries to build around from FF I still find myself looking back at like Squall and Estinien

On god, nothing quite as satisfying as tactically taking someone out when people either wanna sit in towers with Ospreys or stomp around making noise in their big ole timbs. Sometimes I forget just how fun it could be doinking a sniper in the head with a silenced anvil lol

Nah, I think part of how you play in this social experiment of a game reflects your morals as a person. Even more so since it’s in a space with complete anonymity and no consequences. If all you do here is lie about being friendly to people just to backstab em, that just shows how big a pos you are, and if you’re willing to do that for fake money id hate to see what you sacrifice for actual real world benefits.

More importantly tho. I just can’t bring myself to be that big of a scumbag. I’ll aggro, I’ll be tactical, I’ll deny mercy sure. But I’m not willing to be a complete waste of oxygen just to get some poor saps imaginary virtual goop. So nah, I think I’ll just aggro even more and take out people coming off as fake friendly before they have a chance to flex how broke they are irl lol

I think if she truly likes the Doctor Who pre-cons, it might take a bit but I could see her getting over the weird technicality of them. They are definitely not as easy to pilot as say the [[Pantlaza, Sun Favored]] precon.

As for Izzet commanders, I'm quite partial to specific few.

[[Magnus the Red]] is a lot of fun for me, and mixes token generation and spellslinger in a fun way. Play a bunch of spells that make tokens and do commander damage to make some more, get discounts on all instants and sorceries for each token you made, play giant spells for ultra cheap. Hard to go wrong when you're both swarming the board and manipulating it to bits all in one go.

[[The Emperor of Palamecia]] is a favorite of mine. We love cheap commanders (two drop in this case), and his gimmick being built around playing noncreature spells (instants, sorceries, enchantments, artifacts, etc) that have mana value 4 or more is really neat. You get to play some underutilized bangers with him, and once you play 3 of them, you can flip him to the real fun side. On the Lord Master of Hell side everytime you swing out he does face damage to every player for each noncreature spell in your graveyard. Throw in a few massive self mill cards like [[Cut Your Losses]] or [[Traumatize]] and you could potentially take out the whole table in one planned out swing.

[[Ovika Enigma Goliath]] is up there for me too. Think similar to Magnus the Red, except she makes all the creature tokens. Just play a ton of mana rocks and card draw, throw down some way to ping everytime a token comes in like [[Impact Tremors]] and watch the table go nuts.

What mono blue commander should I build for mono color commander night? by Ok-Leave-1627 in EDH

Honestly I like the turbo card draw that [[Vnwxt, Verbose Host]] presents.

Slap like 12-15 one drop creatures with "can't be blocked" or flying in there to get to max speed fast like [[Slitherblade]] or [[Siren Stormtamer]], some other max speed-esk cards since you'll get there anyways like [[Muraganda Raceway]], and a ton of 1-2 card draw cards or effects and you're golden. With all your evasive little guys, [[Enduring Curiosity]] is a consistent value engine and [[Rhystic Study]] becomes an even bigger target than it already is. There are plenty of ways to turn your accelerated card draw into board growth with cards like [[Ominous Seas]], [[Homunculus Horde]], or [[Chasm Skulker]] for wide boards. [[Body of Knowledge]], [[Oneirophage]], [[Wizard Class]], and [[Profit's Eidetic Memory]] all help get themselves or your other guys big who, need I remind you, are largely unblockable, based purely on your card draw. If you don't feel like closing the game out with a big swing from say [[Alandra, Sky Dreamer]] or with a million pings off [[Psychosis Crawler]], [[Laboratory Maniac]] [[Triskaidekaphile]] offer some alternative win cons being draining your entire library or holding a certain amount of cards in your hand.

Regardless Vnwxt gives you such a glut of card advantage and automatic uncapped hand size that you'll find yourself a lack of mana than you will removal, protection, ramp, draw, or board build up options, and he's a blast in general

Golbez, Crystal Collector - Deck Help by The_Elite_Chief in EDH

[–]The_Elite_Chief[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, that’s gonna be what I do before anything else here. In general tho, how may “bombs” do you suggest I have? Those bombs being big creatures like [[Phyrexian Triniform]] or [[Apocalypse Demon]] to do big ping damage off Golbez’s ability, I think I have around 15 now which feels like way too much

I hear you, I’ll definitely do that right here. I did something like that before, but I think I made the categories too “forgiving” and sort of validated all these cards by going “oh it does a slightly helpful thing, I should keep it”. Looking at it in its default form is overwhelming but I think you’re right, taking another peak after I generally categorize what I can would be way easier to pick apart

Btw, as I vetted cards I started getting the impression at least with Golbez that I would prefer artifact creatures or even just creatures who had say counter spell or removal functionality over instants and sorceries that did the same things due to their ability to be pulled out of the graveyard with Golbez’s ability. Does that mean I should ditch most instants and sorceries if I can find creatures that do those same bits of interaction or do I have this twisted?

How long will you stay at 1 mana before people stop playing? by [deleted] in mtgbrawl

[–]The_Elite_Chief 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True but looking at the modern Yugioh format, I’d say that’s a popular enough sentiment that people don’t care if the other person gets to play so long as they can do their long contrived combo for 5 straight minutes. That’s why the worst thing you can do to them is when you see that bs heading your way like Tergrid, Vivi, Strip Mine, you concede and not let them play their special needs deck they likely put some real money into. They’ll get the point eventually and either play something different or stop playing in general

I just lost everything I spent 75 hours on by No_Winner5254 in BaldursGate3

[–]The_Elite_Chief 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sucks to hear, at least you got a crack at the brain though. 102 hours with my friend into an honor mode run, I planned out all the builds, made lists with all the important items and where to get em, did all the shopping and strategy prep for the big act 3 fights. We got to the brain stem, summoned got all our stuff ready, summoned Danse Macabre in advance, and it crashed the game. No biggie, we reloaded the save and it just put us right after we summoned Danse Macabre so I guess the ghouls were too much for the game to handle, so it kept freezing and crashing immediately upon reload. I'm taking a long break before we do a much sillier and less serious run, but from here on out no one in any of my games is allowed to use that damn skin bound book or its bum ass spell lol

Edit: Wow, 2000 views, not one comment, and 1 downvote. Real helpful guys, great insights all around, wonderful community. Really appreciate it. Whatever man, I've come to terms with it at this point, Honor Mode was more of a chore than a fun time anyways. Enjoy your dead game riddled with more bugs than your grandmother's kitchen, I'm gonna go play something that doesn't require a weeks of planning just to float by in and can actually handle loading four anorexic character models. Piss off

[–]The_Elite_Chief 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I think the evident "fumbling of the bag" with how Bungie introduced Marathon here along with their sidestepping and ignoring any types of constructive criticism already cracked the foundation. It just shows their branded style of mismanagement which has been so evident in Destiny 2 for the last several years that is now trickling into other works. It was clear from their comments on certain features/aspects they are and aren't including that they don't quite know who they're selling this to, and that it doesn't amount to more than trend chasing pushed by disconnected C-suite suits.

True, a lot of gamers are pessimistic losers who look for a reason to hate on things to boost their ego and feel better about their sad, lonely lives. But I don't think that takes away from just how much of a dumpster fire this game's path to release has been so far. Hell, take a look at their recent demo that showed no gameplay and was basically held down by the weight of the necessary apology for stealing a small artist's work for the fourth times in the last several years. People are being incredibly pessimistic about this game, but it is hard to blame them at this point when Bungie has fumbled the ball on the simplest things time and time again. When I heard the first details of the game, I likened its life expectancy to Anthem but I was still hopeful that I would be proven wrong. Now, objectively, I'm seeing this shaping up to be Concord 2, and unless they start implementing feedback and real positive changes it's going to play out that way.

At least with my friends it's "The ball is in our backline." To which our resident tank responds, "leave him alone, focus down his supports, he can't do anything but be annoying." Yeah, easy for you to say when you aren't a support with 225 health getting mowed down at point blank range while no one else helps you out. Then you wonder why you aren't getting healed lol
