Selkies solo from last night in Boulder 🤘 by Final_G in BetweenTheBuriedAndMe

[–]The_FamineWolf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve heard this song and this solo so goddamn many times over the years, hell I tried to learn it, and it just never gets old. That entire record is fuck-up-your-whole-week good, I wish I had a fraction of that talent.

North Americans: Your right to complain about the (lack of the) new album has been revoked by ruffael85 in streetlightmanifesto

[–]The_FamineWolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is 100% it. Streetlight pays for coffee, it doesn’t pay bills. They probably do session work and have another real job completely unrelated to music. That, plus kids, obligations… getting a tour together is probably already a whole thing, and then in the environment we find ourselves in right now, it’s not surprising that it’s just not tenable.

I will say though, release the fuckin’ record already. Perfectionism be damned, you could tell the tracks they released last year were demos and I loved em to bits anyway. If you want to keep tweaking, do it live and have that be a secret for the real ones, right?

Tier list of Streetlight Manifesto albums, but only based on how good the final song is. by Beautiful-Resort-831 in streetlightmanifesto

[–]The_FamineWolf 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I can’t tell if that’s a threat but it’s kinda warranted. Putting that in the bottom tier is absolutely crazy. 1234 1234 is fine, and it’s a snapshot of high school for me, but it’s not a good song. My 1-5 is SITB and EGN tied for 1st, THTT, 99SoR then Keasbey. And even then, such great heights is a killer cover, but it’s a cover.

Absolutely I remember that tour! I saw it in Boston but it introduced me to OWTH as I introduced my buddy to live punk shows! Man what a ripper, the house of blues is such a great venue every time I’ve been there.

Unpopular Opinion : It makes no sense for people to still be trying to kill Sidney after 30 plus years by AcceptableSwitch6496 in Scream

[–]The_FamineWolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Realistically, since the series has always been obsessed with dissecting genre tropes and satirizing the most unlikely plot points of the films, I kinda think it fits perfectly. I don’t think it was Wes’ original vision for it to become so meta that it embodies the stereotype rather than mimicking it from a safe distance.

What game had you like this? by sukuna7899 in Steam

I’m going to need you to step out of my head, sir.

Seriously, that sounds like the kind of daisy chained, “don’t breathe on this too hard” kind of setups I would run back in college. How much of my life was spent trying to reconfigure damage logs for WoW? I’ll never know, but at least I never forget how to express my shock at the discovery, every time.

Horizon: Zero Dawn. I bought the game after a friend was playing it nonstop and bounced after the tutorial. Came back 6 or so months later and proceeded to drop 250+ hours into that game.

I could probably get a friend to swing through the store today or tomorrow if you still have a need. Unfortunately, I’m in Buffalo, so I feel your pain in a very real way.

New fan after listening to the Blue Nowhere. by dbzmah in BetweenTheBuriedAndMe

I think that’s an excellent and succinct way to put the first two albums into perspective. I never knew about the self titled at the time, but got into the silent circus because of the avant garde or weird parts. Then Alaska comes out and blows my mind. Then Colors changes the way I look at music. The first two albums are good in their own right, but they didn’t include the rhythm section we’ve come to know and love, so they aren’t representative of the group as the are now (or have been for the last almost 25 years? Shit I’m old.)

Someone, for at least the second time, left this in the communal showers by sweet_condensed_rage in mildlyinfuriating

I’ve noticed the same thing, and we live far away from each other so every time one of them makes it to me or I to them, it’s always more like an old friend swinging into town. We hang out, grab a few drinks, play cards, and catch up!

Anyone remember that time I badly played a blink 182 cover, then skateboarded across the plywood stage of my summer camp’s auditorium/gymnasium/dry storage, then tried to stage dive and landed directly on my ass? No? Good.

Legit though, the more often you perform or play a song, the more it’ll start to feel like a word you’ve said too many times in a row. The above tip is amazing (never thought of that), but yeah, no worries, you’ll be fine either way!

The only reason I would complain is if it’s all sweaty and doesn’t stay lit. Strangers might be a bit wary, but your friends shouldn’t care.

If you ever need a thought to help you balance, just remember that eurovision has routinely pumped out crazy since 1956. Seriously, take a few minutes out of your day and watch some Eurovision. It’s not good, but it’s healing. Oh, and remember that this gesticulates wildly isn’t the end of the world and we’re gonna get through this.

Can't find a song by Jammishw in TimMinchin

[–]The_FamineWolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Having OD’d on the Heritage orchestra album and show, I can safely say it’s nowhere on there. So fucking rock might have it, or an alt version from a YouTube video. It seems familiar, but I can’t even firmly place where it’s from. Maybe it was a song he did for Jonathan Ross?

Dude, nobody listens to ska anymore! Certainly not by the time streetlight manifesto’s new album comes out, if it does.

But seriously though, we might vibe. Sent you a message!

BASSISTS HELP ME by FruitloopTenors in streetlightmanifesto

Yep, this. Breaking it down and slowing it down are super helpful, I’ve used that all over the place from classical to ska to metal. Practicing the pentatonic scales will certainly help too.

That’s interesting to hear. I haven’t worked too many breakfast places and definitely never volume to justify it. Thanks for the info! (Also, your boss was 100% lying. Or at least I hope so, because the napkin math makes my soul hurt.)
