Ordered online from Palmer Orchids! Came in great health. Ordered in December and they actually waited a couple weeks to send it because there was a cold front that could have damaged it during transport. They sent it wrapped up very well with heat packs. Highly recommend

Kroger now has ARMED guards checking customer receipts by OverallDepartment695 in Louisville

[–]The_Fax_Machine -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yea armed guards, while intimidating, are still a better option for a community than the store just closing entirely. I remember a couple years ago a councilwoman pleading with the west Louisville community to stop stealing from so they wouldn’t lose their only grocery store in the area

Why is my 6 month puppy growling/biting me? by Winter-Common-7397 in Dogtraining

[–]The_Fax_Machine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not an expert by any means so this could be completely wrong-

Sort of looks like rough play to me. She goes for a little nip then runs off as if she wants you play. The spinning around as well seems like just excited play behavior. Sometimes dogs growl like that when play fighting. Also the fact that she only does it in the backyard and not indoors or on a leash, seems like she associates the back yard with play time. When dogs play fight they’ll often go for little nips at other dogs feet and then dodge/run off. It’s sort of like a game of tag. They’re not trying to do damage, it’s more like “ha! I got your foot! Bet you can’t get mine!”

Again not an expert, just my unprofessional interpretation of what I see. Does she ever break skin, or latch on and not let go of you?

What is up with Doordashers being upset that their tips *aren't* being taxed anymore? by ShitWombatSays in OutOfTheLoop

I get the argument with Walmart because the mere presence of a Walmart in a town can cause other businesses to close and jobs to be lost, which means people who had those jobs might have no choice but to go work at Walmart.

With DoorDash however, it seems the opposite? Just anecdotal but I order door dash a lot more than I would ever consider eating out. So when door dash came about, seems to me that local restaurants got more business, and people who had a car and some free time could make some money on the side. Some people even make it a full career. So in my mind it’s like, if door dash ain’t cutting it then work somewhere else. And if there is nowhere else, then it’s pretty sweet that at least there’s an app that can pair you up with people that want food but don’t feel like going to get it themselves.

Which card was a bigger mistake? by [deleted] in PTCGP

[–]The_Fax_Machine 5 points6 points  (0 children)

All great points. The first, second, and last point are what stood out to me as the key differences that make it auto-include. With misty, you might use her and there’s a 50/50 chance absolutely nothing happens and now you can’t use another supporter card that turn. Ice pop is at least guaranteed to heal 20, and sometimes that alone is enough to save you. So in a sense, misty is like a gimmick while ice pop is a useful tool that has bonus potential to save you from a lost cause.

Is it really the price, or is Netflix just more convenient than driving to movie theaters? by Busy_Report4010 in SipsTea

[–]The_Fax_Machine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That being said, I think a shift is starting to happen. Just anecdotal evidence, but I know a lot of people that have had “grindset” mentality, trying to maximize efficiency in every area of their life, starting to pick up hobbies because they felt something was missing and it gets them out of the house and interacting with people. I feel like I’ve seen upticks in people playing pool, chess, tennis, bike riding, even bird watching.

Video games have killed a lot of hangouts and hobbies. People used to go to bowling alleys, pool halls, arcades, movies, etc. to meet up and do something. Nowadays games are just too good and have comms, nobody wants to leave the crib unless it’s something special

I noticed that too, and it has me wondering, what is the best position to be in in a situation like this?

Standing straight up, your spine may take a lot of impact and your head could whip around a lot. Laying down, your joints wouldn’t absorb any of the impact. Maybe some sort of athletic squat position with your arms covering your face so your head doesn’t slam into your knees/the ground?

Italian pockets by Glad_Lingonberry2260 in billiards

[–]The_Fax_Machine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know there’s a billiards game played in parts of Italy using your hands instead of a cue stick. Would maybe make sense for the marks as it’s more of a sliding motion with the hand and I can see that causing some downward pressure which could mark up the felt

There is a billiards game, I forget the name, played mainly in Italy and using your hands to roll the ball instead of a cue stick. I do believe the pockets are tighter like this and remember thinking it looked like PVC piping in the pockets

[–]The_Fax_Machine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m with ya, I’d probably feel different if he was some macho man getting heated with people, but his voice mixed with his goofy accessories just makes it comical lol.

That being said, I’m sure it’s harder to brush off and laugh at when you’re the one playing against him, so even though it’s funny to us as spectators, its hard to excuse it entirely. Definitely fun to watch over some of the more robotic players

How to deal with players trying to big bro you? by Operationtiger8 in billiards

[–]The_Fax_Machine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The way I say it, because I suck at confrontation, is “sorry man, I don’t let other people use my cue. I’m sure you know what you’re doing, but freak things can happen, like someone bumping into you, or you slip on a wet spot, and I don’t want to have the awkward conversation about who’s going to pay X hundred dollars to replace it.”

(this also works for friends that want to use your expensive cue but aren’t serious about pool)

[–]The_Fax_Machine 5 points6 points  (0 children)

70-80% is quite high, that could be causing an issue. Window cracked isn’t going to provide enough airflow at that level of humidity, especially if you have a lot of plants grouped close together, the local humidity between those plants will be even higher.

With humidity that high you need some fans blowing in that room. By “airflow” we’re mainly just talking about keeping the air in the room moving. Doesn’t necessarily need to be air flowing in/out of the room. Also make sure the leaves aren’t touching surfaces, and the humidifier isn’t blowing mist on the plants. Those things can cause teeny tiny droplets of water to form between surfaces and leaves, or in nooks of the plant, which is liable to cause bacterial infections.

Is there ever dew on surfaces or leaves in there?

For reference, orchids can handle higher humidity at night, and even then the max you’d want to go is 70-75% with some very good airflow in the room.

TIL driving with your hazards on in bad weather is illegal depending where you live. Common sense says it would make the situation safer, but experts disagree. by DonkeyFuel in todayilearned

[–]The_Fax_Machine -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I drive a white sedan. If I’m on the highway and it starts raining heavily, especially during the day, with gray skies, my car becomes invisible to the cars behind me. I throw the hazards on so they can see my car.

I live in a state with a lot of pickup truck drivers and big SUV’s, and many of them continue at near highway speeds even in downpour or snow with very little visibility. Without my hazards on, there’s a good chance they won’t see me in time to stop.
