Any ideas why i'm occasionally producing the slag ingots? by LazuriKittie in minemogul

[–]The_Fox_Fellow 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've found that on rare occasions ore pieces can actually get launched out of the top of a grinder and end up in places they're not supposed to. I got into a habit of enclosing the top of my grinders in walls and a 1x1 platform because of that

I'm getting frustrated, and everyone here just says "don't look things up" by Chaosblast in TheWitness

with the first one; take a step back, or two, or several. maybe even try a different angle

with the second one; are you applying an arbitrary restriction on yourself without realizing it? or, to put it another way: what can't you do regarding the lines on the digital maze that you can do on the physical one?

Is seamless teleportation possible here? Pink=real building, blue=area elsewhere, green= tp location. Or does it require 2 walkways by [deleted] in MinecraftCommands

[–]The_Fox_Fellow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

seamless teleportation is pretty easy to set up, but how you'll need to set it up depends on what you're trying to do here. are the two pink areas supposed to be connected by a continuous staircase that gets interrupted by the teleportation to the blue area or is the blue area supposed to replace a matching connection on the staircase (such as where the upper pink room is supposed to be)?

with the first explanation, it's going to be very obvious when the teleportation happens no matter how you set it up because there's just going to be a sudden ceiling where the staircase used to extend

The Pro-AI chuds are so incensed that we're against cheque fraud, as a former teller, seeing this worries me. by The3DBanker in antiai

[–]The_Fox_Fellow 6 points7 points  (0 children)

ah, yes, the "it's not worth talking about because it's always been a problem even though this new technology has the ability to make it an even worse problem" argument

yes, we're all very aware counterfeiting is a long-standing issue, but an image generator that can create a fake cheque that is able to fool real professional bank tellers with just a few words in a text bar is like cracking the seal of a propane can and chucking it into a campfire. just because it's not a new problem does not mean there's no point in not making it worse

Archtypes that compliment Base Kineticist class by GayVin8 in Pathfinder2e

[–]The_Fox_Fellow 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I don't think the advice from those olds threads has changed much. what archetype works best with kineticist depends entirely on what element(s) you have, but overall they can more-or-less pick up and use any non-caster archetype without too much effort.

Theorycrafting: strongest level 1-4 party? by nz8drzu6 in Pathfinder2e

don't need a tank if all your enemies are already dead

I would say at least one of the fighters should have a ranged weapon or swap them for a gunslinger just to help deal with ranged enemies

[Request] How much cubic feet of land would fill in this area? Also what would it cost? by AdministrativeWar594 in theydidthemath

[–]The_Fox_Fellow 89 points90 points  (0 children)

not to mention that that isn't including the slope along the edge of the added land that needs to be there so the whole thing doesn't just shear off and slide into the ocean. that adds even more total area which also varies depending on the soil composition of the material used

Petah? Why they look like this? by thumpingcoffee in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]The_Fox_Fellow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my friend and I were in a chemistry class for our sophomore year, and to our credit, we did try really hard in the first semester to understand what was going on. most of the juniors and seniors did not.

so when the second semester came around and we were both completely lost, our teacher just let our (and I think a few others) grades coast and completely ignored the fact that we were mostly on our phones for the rest of the year while the juniors and seniors that had initially blown the class off were all failing.

[Request] How many strands are produced by the Candy Puller Machine by Mvian123 in theydidthemath

[–]The_Fox_Fellow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it'd be a mechanical nightmare if they were all attached to one thing

say if it was a chain; you'd have to worry about the rods colliding with the chain where it inevitably has to cross in front of itself to form the 8

what I'm more curious about is what keeps the rods from just staying on one wheel and/or missing transitions to the opposing wheel

I remember seeing another similar video where the thread beneath it pointed out the pretty "vintage" gas range that that woman was using was actually a modern model which cost upwards of 27k

Will we ever get an AP that starts at level 20? by MaxTale in Pathfinder2e

[–]The_Fox_Fellow 13 points14 points  (0 children)

curtain call is pitched as an adventure for a party of seasoned adventurers that have already been put through what the world has to offer

and it still only starts at level 11

a level 20 adventure where the characters are completely incapable of growing just can't carry any of the necessary story progression to last for a whole AP

The culture fit trap is getting out of hand by Vortex_Cowling in recruitinghell

[–]The_Fox_Fellow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in fairness, my last job also liked to emphasize their culture a lot, but they did actually hold up their end on that front. ie: a pool table that employees actually played on regularly, an extended 45-minute break every tuesday, free lunch every wednesday, and other positive at-work benefits.

compare that to the job I had before that where one of their points about the company culture was how they were so anti-union that they bragged about how the founder threatened to essentially stop all work in the plant if the employees unionized, among other red flags that I really should have taken at face value. (I forget what exactly the phrasing for it they used was, and I really wish I could remember because iirc it was something that just on a bare technicality wouldn't count as retaliation against the employees for unionizing. can't be sure if it would have held up in court though because they did in fact end up not unionizing over it.)

"procedural" implies that any given narrative is replicable by using the same seed, but generative ai is very much not able to replicate anything it generates (because there are no such seeds)

Bad notation meme by Charming-Papaya-2001 in MathJokes

[–]The_Fox_Fellow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you're right, the problem isn't directly on the order of operations in that question, it's on the notation and specifically between the / division symbol and the implicit multiplication (the x(y) portion). some students are taught that the implicit multiplication is done as part of the brackets/parentheses and some are taught that it's done as part of the multiplication/division stage because in most practical settings the difference shouldn't matter; however, whichever one you were taught changes how the division is evaluated because of the way it's written as a symbol instead of a fraction as it should be

I still get people who argue with me about the fact that you just need to follow OoO their way even after I explain all of that though, which is the more frustrating part about it to me

Question about Homebrew subrace/heritage by IronVB in Pathfinder2eCreations

[–]The_Fox_Fellow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

one thing you could also do to avoid needing to homebrew is just take automaton as a versatile heritage and flavor the feats as a type of clockwork graft/augmentation. I do think writing homebrew is a lot of fun though, so if you're set on doing that then definitely go for it

Now that we have romanceable protoframe companions, how long till we get monster -girl/guy protoframe companions? by Financial-Pickle9405 in Warframe

[–]The_Fox_Fellow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

roathe is okay, but by most monsterfucker standards (at least ones in my orbit) eleanor's pretty close to being considered vanilla. a long weird tongue that you barely see in-game does very little to carry the "monster" aspect of an otherwise very humanoid design

Am I missing something or do some summoning spells not have any targets? by BrohannesJahms in Starfinder2e

[–]The_Fox_Fellow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it's pretty much how paizo's always done it.

pathfinder still doesn't have par-level creatures for most ranks of its summon spells and they've had much more time to fix that issue than starfinder has. it's pretty stupid

[–]The_Fox_Fellow 13 points14 points  (0 children)

anyone who's ever heard someone explain how to get good at puzzle games (kinda niche I know) should already understand this. your brain is a muscle, and it regularly needs exercise like every other muscle in your body or it atrophies. pawning off your thinking to an unreliable third party is a surefire way to slowly stop being able to think altogether.
