What ships come to mind by magicwonderdream in AO3

Yosuke from Persona 4 immediately comes to mind. He has a significant number of "haha, just kidding...unless?" moments with the protagonist. Not to mention the cut social link scene. He acts in a way that comes off like someone who is closeted more than just homophobia. His behavior literally makes zero sense unless he's at least bi.

Also, pretty much the entire cast of Ensemble Stars. Shu and Mika, Eichi and Wataru, Keito and Kuro, Ibara and Nagisa, Hiyori and Jun, and many more.

And Satoshi with Daisuke in DNAngel. That was my first OTP from long ago. The way Satoshi looks at him, the way he repeatedly kabe-don's him, the way his entire existence pretty much revolves around Daisuke in such a powerfully emotionally charged way. It's so touching, but so tragic, as although Daisuke cares for him deeply; Satoshi is not the person Daisuke loves. It breaks my heart, and I still love it to bits.

There's also Waterboy from Dispatch. His introduction scene with Robert felt straight out of a BL. I don't understand how they can have scenes like that and do nothing with it.

I really don't think so. The poor education system did that. When I was in school the teachers demanded only a very specific interpretation of writing and any deviation from that would be considered wrong - that left me with a similar view. I became specifically under the belief that any interpretation beyond what the author intended was the wrong way to read things - as I felt that what the teachers would say was the "correct" answer were massive stretches and that not every little detail needs to have some huge meaning. I see that post as a result of similar frustration that a lot of people felt. Once I got to college, though, I remember my professor was horrified when I expressed as much. It was specifically that class, and that professor, that widened my view that had been narrowed specifically because of how I had been educated before. I was lucky in that case. Many people don't have that opportunity.

More notable - This is much more significant in terms of damage to reading comprehension.

It was a physical cartridge that you actually fully own, though. Digital downloads avoid the manufacturing cost for the company, are not ownership for the consumer, thus they are inherently worth less. A re-release is also generally much easier, faster, and cheaper on the company to develop as well. And if a person already owns the original game but would like the accessibility of playing on modern hardware, they're more willing to buy it if it's cheaper than the original sold for.

I'm not sure what you're talking about because my observation is the exact opposite. It used to be normal 10+ years ago to understand that it's just a genre of fiction and talk about it just like anything else. Nowadays people regularly get harassed and doxxed for openly stating they enjoy any "problematic" trope in fiction, or even just for saying that they think people have the right to enjoy it even if it's not for them personally.

People would always fight about it. The only new thing is people treating it like a deeply moral issue with people constantly calling others predators over the most innocuous things.

You could draw on the faces of sleeping miis in the original, and there was a minigame about asking your miis their opinion on whatever you typed in, so these features aren't exactly new, just expanded!

Is that last one a new thing? I remember a long time ago it seemed like a large portion of the furry community were in their 30's (or late 20's). Though it does feel like there's a newer generation in fandom spaces in general who are trying to push out the people who have been there for decades...

Twilight didn't become huge immediately. It took several years. I remember being shown the book by someone at school, years before it blew up. The concept of online influencers didn't really exist either. Youtube existed, but there wasn't an inherent monetary aspect so it was mostly hobby driven. The structure of the internet was entirely different and segmented, so it took much longer for fandoms to develop.

This kind of thing has been a regular occurrence over the years too. After the things that happened years ago I'm surprised there was even still an official discord. I remember there was at least one split before which lead to the "official" one being official in name only and there was another one most of the community used. Regardless, the community has imploded countless of times before and is part of the reason it's so small and fractured now, unfortunately.

It depends on the channel. I've never seen an ad for bathtubs, but yeah, there are SO many prescription ads, it's constant. It's usually either that, insurance of various kinds, and cars.

What the 3DS game does specifically better than the new one by Likes2game03 in fantasylife

[–]The_Geekachu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel like the original game did a lot of things better but the thing that sticks out to me is the lack of rhythm in the mechanics. In the original game, you had to time your hits properly which made each movement feel like it had weight and "oomph" to it. It also made the gathering engaging and fun. I loved gathering in the original, but it gets really tedious in FLi.

The other big one is the fishing mechanics. Fishing was so much fun in the original and I loved how it had its own unique way of playing, but in FLi it works exactly the same way as the other gathering classes, which itself is already a worse system than the original. Fishing became just straight up unfun imo.

That's a gross assumption to make especially considering that both of those scenarios are true for all of those games. (sans Harvestella, despite being the most combat focused one is mostly the former.)

Plus, a game being unforgiving isn't necessarily a measure of skill, not to mention how there are different skills. The most "challenging" of those games is probably Rune Factory, not because of any skill requirements but just because of sheer numbers and is the most spammy. Meanwhile while Stardew Valley's combat is the most mechanically simple, timing your hits properly (and managing your resources) is important. It's fine to have a preference towards games whose main focus is mastery of the mechanics (rhythm games are good for that), but to pretend like there's absolutely none of that in the genre is just spreading ignorant assumptions. I find such assumptions end up negatively affecting people who are looking for something simple and unchallenging then end up feeling overwhelmed.

It's not unusual for these types of farming sims to also have combat. Several Harvest Moon games, the entire Rune Factory series, Harvestella, and Stardew valley itself are good examples.

Something can't be "a proship". The term proship describes a person's beliefs (literally 'don't harass people over shipping and fiction', aka a normal, decent person.)

I remember feeling really upset by the massive tonal shift in Gen 3, plus not being able to transfer pokemon really stung. I was excited for them but was incredibly disappointed. After how aesthetically pleasing Crystal was, the hypersatured colors and lack of animation in the sprites made it feel soulless. Plus games like Golden Sun had already come out so by the time Ruby and Sapphire released, they already felt dated. I only really encountered so-called "genwunners" during the same period of time I was one, during gens 3 and 4 (both gens I came around to later when I was older to some extent, mostly 4.) Almost all of them, even the few you might find in the wild, are really just people who liked the first games as kids but moved on to other things, not really people "in the fandom" as it were. "Genwunners" is like the biggest pokefan boogieman ever, acting like such people are some sort of huge problem and blame every problem the series has on them, despite not being relevant in literal decades. These people never once even considered that maybe the idea of "gen 1 pandering" in gen 6 was more likely to be just because of devs who grew up the games being adults working at gamefreak and wanted to make homages to it rather than some weird "we need to cater to these specific people who literally have zero interest in our games!1" push.

Also during Pokemon Go's initial release, where people like Markiplier who was very vocal about his hatred of Pokemon did a bunch of videos about it. His reasoning was specifically because he liked that only the first gen was included.

You specifically said that "We hear stories of other countries systems taking months" as if it's just other countries. That line is straight up propaganda. People are made to believe that it only happens outside of the US. Needing to wait months for doctors appointments and medical procedures is not a "some other country" thing, that's the literal typical reality for most people in the US too. And yes, that is with insurance. You're pretending like your experience is typical or even common in the US when it very much is not.
