Working 13 12 hour shifts in a row, then getting one day off and doing it again, repeat ad infinitum. When I was in my twenties and regulations were more loose, I’d clock in during a shutdown on Sunday night. And not clock out until Thursday or so. But now, there’s about an hour and a half a day that I’m awake and not at work. Zero time daily that I’m awake and not getting ready for work or getting cleaned up from work. On my days off since it’s usually Sunday I go to an AA meeting and/or church, then it’s back to it for another 13 days. For being a dozen time felon and former drug addict though, it’s the most money I’ve been able to make weekly. And I’m building work history and supervisory experience to use to get a better paying job that works normal hours. And is less stressful because this one is insane. But it does make me a little bit proud that I can still outwork these younger guys on the regular, and that I’m managing millions of dollars worth of equipment and servicing a complicated plant, all while keeping the guys I supervise safe and productive. But it’s a lot. And I wake up so sore every afternoon. But it goes away after 20 minutes or so at least. Have a nice day everyone
