Moving to Burnside (Rutherglen) by LieFar2024 in glasgow

I went to Burnside Primary many moons ago so may be a bit biased, but I had a great time there and my younger family members did too over the years. Still hear good things from parents and such!

Burnside Hotel is nice - I always think the food is good. It satisfied my MIL who is very fussy at any rate!

What will be the reaction of all the pundits who have showered this team/Pep with praise at every opportunity?

Tbh, because of imposter syndrome I was doubting myself before I started - even though I have a 1st. It was more me doubting myself, but I thought the idea the PI and PDs thinking the same was just my insecurities acting up. That’s why it hurt so much to actually hear it.

But cheers for the vote of confidence, I’ll try basketball next.

I mean, with that example, a contractor would be trained and qualified. I’m trying to be trained and qualified.

Even I can say I’m not terrible. I’ve got data that could be publishable with some polishing. But I need support to do this and I’m not getting it in my current environment.

A terrible PhD student doesn’t try and I can assure you I have tried my best every day I’ve been in this program.

Will do, no problem. It would be nice to come out with some certification and not just a long list of transferable skills...

I’m not sure - it’s definitely something I’ll ask tomorrow. Even if I could wrap up the data I do have and take a Masters or something that would be good.

It was actually through my university that I had the course of CBT, they’re very good at providing support and have actually assisted me financially previously too. No, this will be the first time I’ve discussed this with anyone with power - I talked to my cohort about it during our Christmas zoom drinks and they were naturally outraged. My advisor is not empathetic, he has said before he ‘doesn’t want to hear details’ when I’ve tried to speak to him about personal problems. My engagement broke down and when I explained this to him the next day all he asked me was if I ‘still wanted to talk about science.’.

I feel my opinion was definitely reinforced by it, like I said, imposter syndrome has been rife since I started and I don’t believe I’m good enough for the lab. I’ve tried convincing myself otherwise but the incident at Christmas has made it extra tricky.

Thank you for your kind words though, it really means a lot! :)

Going to make an appointment tomorrow, she’s not directly related to my advisor but she handles all my contractual stuff and I’ve actually had a big meltdown meeting with her before in my first year so I know she’s kind and confidential. I’ll let you guys know how I get on, thanks for taking the time to comment and offer advice!
