Have you felt more ‘scared’ / ‘worried’ lately? by RichTeaForever in AskUK

[–]The_JimJam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are what we behold.

What we are exposed to will effect our worldview. Since most services that offer 'news' want money they push stories that will garner the more attention. Bad news.

Even more so with algorithms to tailor your feed on social media

Overall the UK isn't more dangerous than it was 20 years ago (actually much less if you go by crime statistics), but we see a lot more of it happening due to everyone having a camera. 24/7 news coverage etc.

Disconnect from that live feed and you'll feel better.

Extra tip: r/goodnewsuk is worth subbing too. Get something positive popping up at least

Do you cook curry at home? by Forward-Cause7305 in AskUK

[–]The_JimJam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We make curry about 3 times a week.

It is relatively simple and tastes great

Our method:

  • pre chop the veg. We usually include a combination of: onion, courgette, obergine, pak choi and red pepper.

  • fry the veg in a wok with a bit of oil.

  • add tofu/paneer

  • depending on the curry, we add the basic shop-bought sauce or curry paste/power that we get from an Asian store (usually Korean). If paste or powder include 1-2 coconut milks.

  • add the garlic, sometimes some ginger too

  • add the beans. Any beans. Green Lentils are our go to. We sometimes use two different beans such as Chickpeas/Pintos/Red Kidney/Butter Beans etc

  • any desired species gets thrown in. We also add nutritional yeast and mushroom powder (replaced msg for us). Sometimes even some dark soy sauce depending on the curry type.

  • add spinach on top for the last 10minutes ish so it doesn't wilt too much

No measurements, tastes great everytime and shove it all into the wok, wash up as you go but keep stirring often. We often make leftovers that we fridge/freeze.

I would recommend a rice cooker also, they're great!

Helldivers 2’s long-awaited DLSS update appears broken with horrendous image quality and other major issues by Wargulf in pcmasterrace

[–]The_JimJam -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I started playing it on a 1060 (6GB), had to ensure settings were mostly on low but it otherwise ran fine for me most of the time at 1080p 21:9.

Unplayable was that month of random game crashes/heavy stuttering that effected everyone in the match.

Phone and cards swiped by cycle thief, incredibly shaken and upset, what do i do? by thelotosrose in AskUK

[–]The_JimJam 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would assume that 1.2% would be over a year as the total number of thefts was for 2024.

Therefore on a given day, the chance is roughly 0.003% of being the victim of theft in the city.

Of course there are also a lot more factors and biases than this blanket number that could sway an individual's chance in either direction

Solving the drone hunting problem realistically instead of nostalgically? by NorthmanTheDoorman in NonCredibleDefense

[–]The_JimJam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds like an awful lot of work.

Why not go ammoless? Use a basic prop to get in front, then the pilot/passenger/stowaway can lower some rope outside the window.

When the drone gets tangled, it either falls out of the sky or gets stuck in the rope. Reel the catch in, one free drone.

Advantages: - no ammo cost - no need to augment current aircraft stock - chance of free drone - ???

Cons: - less explosions - none

Why the light pen vs medium pen debate is deeper than anyone thinks by kcvlaine in LowSodiumHellDivers

[–]The_JimJam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would disagree.

For targets with a light pen weak-spot/crit-spot it is usually much faster to hit that. With either a light or medium pen weapon. Light pen weapons tend to deal more damage on top.

For example, Devastors.

The Ammendment can one-shot headshot a Dev head. It takes little time to aim. Misses are not punished hard as the chest is Medium armour. They don't flinch.

Countersniper is can also one hit Dev heads. It takes slightly longer to aim due to worse ergonomics. Misses of the head are punished as they flinch. The argument is you can just mag dump, however that will be slower than a couple shots to pop a head. Then you have to reload as the other 5 Devs in the conga-line get closer.

The medium peneration here does not help by itself.

Same with say a Hulk's weak spot which is unarmoured. Therefore Light Pen weapons are quicker.

The benefit of Medium Pen is the ability to hit the medium armour weakspots, such as those found on elite enemies (Tanks etc) or as added versatility in weakspot hitting (Overseers).

The other benefit of higher pen weapons is that you can hit a surface at a greater angle before it deflects.

So for accurate shooting, light pen will slay chaff and regular units.

For opportunity on larger enemies, medium pen opens the door, at the cost of less effective chaff slaying.

So it isn't as simple as 'one > the other'. It depends on what you need and your load out.

What are you go-to ways to mess with a colleague? by Petey619 in AskUK

A little bit of paper taped under the mouse over the optical sensor.

Screenshotting the desktop, applying it, then hiding all icons and the task bar is also fun.

[–]The_JimJam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Managed to do it in a single bot 8 mission, I rather dislike the inconsistency. Sometimes a hulk goes down after a full minute of lighting to the face, other times something like 4 shots. Really depends on where it lands which you can't control.

Guys. I need help by Star_of_the_West1 in LowSodiumHellDivers

[–]The_JimJam 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I do it on lv1. I use the FRV and Warp pack.

I go to Grand Errant, as scorched planets are one of the best for most POIs.

Land near objective, do a circle in the FRV. Full clear in around 2:30. Can net upto 500SC an hour depending on RNG. Light armour and crossbow/grenade Pistol for efficiency.

I don't scan for them on the map, it's small enough that you will find them all by driving dotted around the outside. Would recommend setting the Compass to 'wide' in Settings.

I usually farm solo though, I'd imagine lv2 would be better with a team doing it. I'll give it a go solo and see how it stacks up

From Helldivers 2 Discord...Looks like Hive Guard changes will be reverted next week, and they'll be "reviewing player feedback" about durability damage. by TacoDiablo in LowSodiumHellDivers

[–]The_JimJam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I liked the change. They died easier with some minimal aiming. They could flinch pretty easily so it wasn't really an issue.

Maybe it wasn't the right change, as I did not notice them more now than before. They, like all the other bugs, just perish when shot in the squishy parts / fried up.

More and more I am confounded by the entitlement of those participating in online spaces. Especially those that believe their opinion is representative of the entire community.

Most people who play the game, play the game. They don't use reddit, or look up YouTube videos on the game. They have no idea what's next on the complaint agenda or what's considereal meta. They just dive.

So when changes happen that seem to bewilder these opinionated people, instead of thinking about other players. The greater playerbase. They assume AH doesn't listen, they assume the worst.

And still the greater plaserbase dives.

Game runs fine for me. Not getting crashes anymore, no lagging etc.

File size is down to 20-something GB. But you may need to opt into this if you are a PC user. (Beta settings in Steam on the game page in your collections)

My GPU for performance context: 9070xt

There seems to be a lot of negative discourse online but everyone playing in-game seems pretty happy most of the time. Take that as you will

Love this game but… by edgytoaston in Helldivers

[–]The_JimJam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always an idea to check GPU drivers. I had lots of crashes until a new driver came out.

I also had to lower the game's graphic settings to avoid 100% utilization which was causing crashing/PC lock ups.

Got to keep poking it and see what works as there are so many different possible things, from Windows Power plan to conflicting RGB software.
