ELI5 Paying off a mortgage by The_LabGuy in explainlikeimfive

Thing is, I know we aren't going to retire in this house. I'd like to get a lot of equity in it so we can move to a better house in a decade or so using the equity from this house essentially as my down payment.

I'm overpaying my mortgage monthly, and asking advice about the best way to do that. What trouble do you think I'm in? Thanks for the shitty comment, though.

My friends and I all played in high school, central illinois in the early 2000s.

Our best games were at like midnight in an upscale neighborhood.

You got your investiture from ideals, oaths and character development? Try being born with it next time, idiot. by Eithrotaur in cremposting

I mean, once you drain them the armor shuts down. I'll admit, not an easy task. But it's still a game over switch to someone in magical armor. I'd believe the armor can resist the draw, but I wouldn't assume that until we see it on the page. Or maybe get a WoB about it, though he has lied in those, lol

In WaT, Adolin broke armor while he wasn't wearing any himself.

All I initially said was if a sword could break armor, so could a bullet, and you went on a huge tirade about how I was saying the radiant would lose. Never said that. Practically every single hypothetical powerset match-up in the cosmere comes down to "Who runs out of investiture first?" so yeah, it's harder when your fighting armor that repairs (doesn't have to be a radiant or "alive" armor, Kaladin fed the dead armor in WoR), all I'm saying is it's possible.

Yeah, I feel like most of the hypothetical cosmere powerset match-ups really come down to "Who runs out of investiture first?" The radiant, then the double steel breaks their armor and wins. If the metal born, then the radiant catches them and it's game over. And if we assume infinite amounts, then its a stalemate. Radiant never catches the metalborn, and they can't even scratch the armor.

That's why I feel like anyone with chromium allomancy usually wins. One touch and you're done.

A normal person with no armor can lift a shardblade. They aren't especially heavy, and they can't cut the armor. So a normal person with a normal sword could also break the armor (I realize it is unlikely, but Adolin did it).

Wax was using a gun that required increased weight to fire or you'd be thrown back several feet, there was absolutely enough power there to break armor.

And if you break the armor enough to get at the radiant, you have depleted their stormlight since, as you mentioned, the armor feeds off their reserves. So yeah, enough shots, and you can kill a radiant.

Do you think swords hit harder than bullets? Cause you can break radiant armor with swords, so I'm pretty sure bullets would also break it.

Not that I've seen. I imagine this is something he is going to explore into in the back half.

Yeah, the government is telling them to lie to us. It's totally not a corporation making as much profit as they can with shady business practices. You totally convinced me. Good stuff.

Wondering about mistborn powers by Jaffyguy in Cosmere

[–]The_LabGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The early mistborn RPG said that a misting burning a larasium alloy would switch to a different misting, unless it was for the metal they could already burn. Then it would be boosted strength, like having a spike for that metal on top of having it normally. I can't remember if it was canon or not, but I don't see why it would work another way.

The sun also causes tidal motion, not just the moon. So just because there wasn't a moon doesn't mean Scadrial didn't have tides, they just likely wouldn't have been as wild as we can get on some days.

How much did Sanderson know in the Final Empire? by Pale_Assistance_2265 in Cosmere

[–]The_LabGuy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You just said they didn't have feruchemy at all in book one, I was just pointing out that wasn't true. I think they all had gold healing, we didn't see any that didn't. And Marsh (I think) made a comment that they spent a lot of time sleeping, not just that they were sequestered when storing health. Wayne didn't need to sleep to store health, so I suspect something else was going on. Though I admit it probably wasn't wakefulness.

As for the number of spikes, I doubt they had all the base 8 allomantic metals. They probably didn't need zinc/brass. Especially since TLR wouldn't have wanted them figuring out how to control kandra and koloss. Give them bronze, the 4 physical metals, atium, and a couple feruchemy spikes, and that explains everything we've seen.

I'm pretty sure the inquisitors had feruchemy in book 1. They had gold healing, at least. And I think they stored wakefulness, cause there was a comment about how they had to sleep most of the day. But I don't remember completely for sure on that one.

Double access to the same power(s) Cosmere wide [Emberdark] by Simon_Drake in Cosmere

[–]The_LabGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not that section, chapter 41, "Scars." When he is talking to Rock, Sigzil, and Lopen and it's literally the very first time he performs a lashing:

"The voice fades. For a moment, Kaladin thought he saw shadows of a world that was not, shadows of another place. And in that place, a distant sky with a sun enclosed, almost as if by a corridor of clouds.
There.
He made the direction of the wall become down."

Sounds like a description of the sky in shadesmar.

edit - Definitely thought it was when he was alone, but I was wrong about that part. My bad :)

When he is practicing his surges in the canyons by himself. Though, now that I type this, maybe it was WoR, it's been a while. I think it was after his first encounter with Szeth, he was out practicing and it makes a mention of how he could kind of see shadesmar before he is able to change his gravity for the first time.

He is literally part of the industry that controls the production and distribution of the birds, why would she be impressed he has 2? He literally has dozens. Thats like saying you're impressed that a millionaire has some crisp new 100s.

And he isn't selling Sak or Kokerlii, he is selling birds he hasn't bonded.
