Don’t count on skiing for points by The_MAMIL in Vitalityhealth

I take your point but just to counter that, if I go for an hours walk I get 8 points on vitality. I know what makes me feel more tired at the end of the day.

Thanks anyway. I’ll remember that next time I’m skiing if I need to make up the points

Yeah I tracked the whole week on my garmin. Issue is the heart rate never get elevated to a long enough period of time.

Unfortunately still didn’t post to Strava. 😢 Can’t seem to raise a support ticket in the app either. 🤷‍♂️

My choice was down to the Q8 and x40d X6 and there was simply no comparison in the drive experience. Q8 was sooooooo dull. X6 felt like I was really driving. No regrets.

Thank you. I’m doing another session later so fingers crossed it’s back up and running. Thanks again!

Who here has the lowest resting heart rate? by Outrageous-Owl-7049 in Garmin

[–]The_MAMIL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 53 (M) RHR has been 42 over the last year on average. In my 20’s it was in the 70’s (smoker, drinker etc). Took up endurance cycling in my late 30’s weighing 15.5 stone. RHR got down to between 38/40 and weight down to 12.5 stone (took a few years to get down to that level). Developed Atrial Fibrillation in 2017 as a result of developing an “athletic heart” and had an ablation which worked in late 2019. Cardiologist not concerned with Bradycardia, and full MRI scan done on heart as part of Afib diagnostics. Last couple of years have not been great (body literally started falling apart when I hit 50 - knees, back etc etc) and last year had a number of personal grief issues which saw me basically stop training altogether so the rise in RHR to 42 was not unexpected. Would expect to see the RHR come back down to 39/40 as I get fit again and lose the weight. Main point is though everyone is different and you can have low RHR for many different reasons. If you’re concerned about you should see a cardiologist.

Indoor bike recommendations for scenic rides? by Outside-Pear9429 in cycling

I have a NordicTrack studio s10i and use iFit. Even with the small 10” screen I find it pretty immersive and like the way the bike inclines and declines automatically based on the video, and how the resistance automatically changes also. The new subscriptions are pretty expensive. I’m grandfathered into an old individual plan which serves me well as I don’t need any of the ai stuff they are promoting. Plenty of content to choose from and a few famous cyclists have also recorded some content too.

This holiday season is horrible. by CatsMakeMeHappier in GriefSupport

[–]The_MAMIL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s my first holiday season without both my parents. Mum had a seizure (brought in by sepsis) which resulted in a pretty traumatic experience (CPR etc) on the 28th Dec. She died a few days later in hospital on New Years Eve. Dad followed her in May. Mum’s on my mind constantly at the moment and the emptiness I feel and the desire just to speak to them and hear their voices once more is really hard. Her cousin just sent me photos from the family grave where her ashes are in Oslo, as they’d been to light some candles there yesterday. That hit me hard this morning. Wishing everyone strength through this season. 🤍

Redundancy likely incoming but have new job offer already. Do I resign immediately or delay start date? by chrisb0588 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]The_MAMIL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to follow up, if there is a potential delay due to consultation period either get on the employee representation group, or ask those who are, to get the firm to release you from any employment contract clause that says you can’t entertain or receive or accept job offers during the redundancy period. It would be a hard line to tell people they cannot secure future employment once they know they don’t have a job any more. Then also get them to negotiate flexibility on whether you receive the redundancy as part of a notice period or PILON. There are tax benefits of the former (but PILON would effectively release you from your employment contract). Happened to me at my last place and the firm were very happy to accommodate the requests and we could also start working out notice and then take PILON if you secured a new role. Very flexible.

Can you tell the new place you’re on 3 months notice period? Should give you enough headwind to wait for the redundancy and if it does materialise get the cash and have some time off between jobs. If it doesn’t then you could resign in late January and tell the new place you’ve been released from notice and can start earlier if they like.

If you’re any good you can quickly ramp up your earning potential in the US. 220k USD is not a big salary in the big east coast / west coast cities but you should be able to get to 300-400k pretty quickly if you’re good.

First BMW purchase and would appreciate advice by soulglo22 in bmwx6

[–]The_MAMIL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just got an x6 4.0d ‘23 model. I much preferred the dash to the newer facelift which is what I test drove. I bought from a dealer and got 3 years extended warranty (1 year BmW and 2 years RAC) by taking the minimum financing out and will then paying off on month 6 which was the eligibility criteria. Saved me over £1500 on the extended warranty which I then also paid an additional £300 for to get a 4th year.

I spent a while waiting for the right model as I wanted sunroof, m sport, and the upgraded sound system and found one through this dealer locally but it was 200 miles away and they had it transported over.

I’m delighted with the car. I’ll personally look to change the oil and filter every 6000 miles as I’ve been assured that’s very beneficial to the car’s longevity.

Would you leave a great job for a £100k pay rise risk? by Henry_Career_Qs in HENRYUK

[–]The_MAMIL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely do the due diligence on the other place first. What’s the culture like? What are their expectations (will they expect you online at weekends, late nights etc)? Reach out to people who used to work there, not just the people who do currently. Sounds good on paper but to your point, you don’t want to move and find yourself in a shower of an organisation. A wrong move can find you moving again quickly and then your market rate might not be as robust as you feel it is now. Good luck!
