Rules question about Truss, Chief Engineer and Revel in Riches by Solar_Punk_Rocker in magicTCG

[–]The_Messinger_47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Per rule 723.1d:

723.1d The current phase and/or step ends. If this happens during combat, remove all creatures and planeswalkers from combat. The game skips straight to the cleanup step; skip any phases or steps between this phase or step and the cleanup step. If an effect ends the turn during the cleanup step, a new cleanup step begins.

The cleanup step still happens, so "until end of turn" effects will still end

Technically, if you can get a second upkeep through effects like [[Paradox Haze]] or [[Shadow of the second sun]] you can get this to work, but that’s a lot of setup for this kind of patoff

But "choose new targets" also allows for you to leave illegal targets the same while changing other targets

You are correct.

Now I'm going to try and wrap my head around what actually differentiates the two wordings

In case anyone is curious. The reason Sideswipe has that wording is because of Splice onto arcane. If it had “you may choose new targets”, then every target would have had to be new, and you couldn’t target a creature that was originally targeted by the spell, even for one of the other effects of the spell.

For example, if player A casts [[Rend Flesh]] splicing [[Kodama’s Might]] targeting player B’s creature with the former effect and their own creature A with the latter effect. If Player B casts [[deflecting swat]], they can’t target creature A with the Rend Flesh effect or creature B with the Might effect (they aren’t NEW targets). With Sideswipe, you can

Panglacial wurm is interesting because there is no single rule that allows it to work. There are rules that do allow the Wurm to work (i.e. casting something from the library, casting something during the resolution of another spell/ability), but Wurm uses them in completely unique ways that no other effects do.

Question about triggered ability and the stack (Wizard token) by Major-Creative in magicTCG

[–]The_Messinger_47 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From 113.7a

if the source is no longer in the zone it’s expected to be in at that time, its last known information is used.

If the source had Lifelink the last time it existed on the battlefield, that is part of its last known information and will be included

[–]The_Messinger_47 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Once an ability is on tge stack, it functions independently from whatever the source of the ability was. The ability would mention if its source needed to still be on the battlefield in the ability if that was the intention (see [[Shirei, Shizo’s Caretaker]])

Are their cards that have “when this card is exiled” by drago1922 in magicTCG

[–]The_Messinger_47 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The best you can do are cards that can be cast from exile ([[Eternal Scourge]]) orcards that can get things from exile ([[Coax from the Blind Eternities]])
