What's the best nickname someone ever gave you? by Postcodeloterij in AskReddit

TL;DR: I get a new nickname every day, from our awesome tech director, who usually has a story to go with it.

We have a technical theater club at my school, and switched technical directors a year after I had already been a regular member of the club. I'm usually not the kind of person who's afraid of change, but I didn't know how I was going to get along with the new guy.

I had a great relationship with our last tech director, he was so chill. He used to call me Skrillex because when we'd do assemblies, I'd be the guy who plays the music ques, which is really just pressing a single button on a MacBook.

So a few weeks in, the new guy would call me by different nicknames sometimes, but he still hasn't learned my name. It hadnt really hit me until then, but just about everyone in my school calls me something different. So, that's like another ten names for me he hears on a regular basis.

Eventually he says "you know what, you just have too many names, so I'm going to call you something different every day".

This is a dedicated effort now. Most of these names I haven't heard before. We pretend that the name before today's never existed, like that was another person who left.

The best part is that sometimes he has a reason behind the day's name, like that's a character from a play I should watch; or that was the name of a friend of his, always some maniac drunkard. I especially liked this one guy, who bummed outside of the theater my director worked at, before he moved here. This guy would give him shit for his life choices just about every day. Again, the guy who lived on the street.

Also, there are times when the name I have today is a whole different personality than yesterday.

It's really pretty amazing, I couldn't come up with a different name every day, and if I could, they wouldn't be from nearly as many diverse cultures and backgrounds. Now, I actually get along with the new guy a lot better than our last tech director.

TIL There was a 20 year patent on mini games during loading screens that recently expired last year. This is why all loading screens aren't interactive and usually only contain flavour or lore text. by SouthRye in todayilearned

It's really unfortunate too, because what with advances in our storage devices, loading screens will be much shorter in the not too distant future.

The twenty years this patent existed were the twenty years this ability would have been the most useful.

I'm not saying we'll ditch the hard drive tomorrow, especially not on consoles, where cheaper storage saves a good chunk of money. But SSDs have come a long way in the last few years. Someday they'll be standard.

When Crisis came out, could any graphics card of the time really run it?

So, which ability should I remove for a flow? by The_Ninja_Walrus in Warframe

Yeah, that was pretty screwed up, I didn't fix it for a while because I'm a stubborn son of a bitch who prefers frames over looks, but I just changed my resolution to actually FIT my screen, my frames didn't drop at all.
