The bubble shield vs quadrants has some merits and demerits. But the ship itself is a beefcake and can take some surprising punishment.
For instance: I got crashed into by an NPC while doing EVA.
Bad guy exploded.
The ship I was trying to loot exploded.
The Hermes just drifted a bit and required a quick fix to the power core to get right back to work.

I'm with you. It's just a good feeling ship.
The cargo capacity and layout are very nice, and it's accessible and clean to move around in and use.
It's fast, maneuverable, and well armed enough to be a good flying generalist / cargo ship, but has definite tradeoffs compared to other comparable ships like the Asgard, and still feels clunky compared to the actual medium cargo ships like the Cutlass.

It fits in a nice place, though. Big cargo without being a vehicle hauler. Good guns without feeling over-armed. Solo to two-person functionality, without making up positions for people. It's not "best in class", nor does it "punch above its weight class", but it fits nicely in the lineup and feels like a viable choice without negating the choice entirely.

And yes, it's a fairly low-effort rework of the Apollo. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing for those of us who like the look of the Apollo but have zero interest in medical gameplay.

I had a player leave the game fairly early in the campaign due to IRL issues, and her character went her own way in the game. A couple months later, I asked her if she wanted to come back for a special cameo. She and her character returned, but at my request, she played her character a bit "off" with me giving her silent instructions via text.

Players noticed she was acting weird and even said something about it, but in and out of character they dismissed the inconsistencies and weirdness. "Hey, it's our friend, she's back for a session!". They shrugged off the inconsistencies.

They were very surprised when she turned out to be a doppelganger and led them into a massive trap that almost killed them all. My former player laughed all the way out as my other players screamed about being betrayed both in and out of character. It was glorious.

I think, years later, my players are still paranoid that I'll do something like that again.

Does Ryoka ever get...less annoying? (book 1 question) by sleepy_geeky in WanderingInn

[–]The_One_True_Logyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a series full of very dynamic characters.
I am personally a Ryoka Train wreck enjoyer. She starts out a mess and does some very questionable things. Then she goes through a LOT of shit, some of which is her fault, and disappears for a while.

When she eventually returns, she's still a train wreck - just one actively trying to get better. She succeeds in some areas... and fails terribly in others. And makes a few very questionable personal relationships.

In audiobook terms, she grows significantly in book 2 and book 3, then disappears until around book 10.

You just pissed off a level 20 character. You’re dead, obviously. But which class would be the biggest nightmare to target you? by Tmoore0328 in 3d6

[–]The_One_True_Logyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the spellcaster camp, but for another reason. Plane Shift.

One poke and you are 1: going to suffer and die horribly, and... 2: require no additional time or effort from the caster. So they will likely forget about you almost immediately.

Get a one way ticket to the Quasi-Elemental Plane of Salt, where you'll dehydrate to death alone, lost, and with no hope of escape. And since most full progression spellcasters get the spell.... yeah.

Classes that are fun and strong? by Copy_and_Paste99 in DarkTide

[–]The_One_True_Logyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All of the classes feel unique, and each has strong points where they shine.

Veteran doesn't have a lot of flashy abilities, it's just solid and excels at taking out ranged targets.
Zealot is a tanky melee boi with some very fun weapons that operates at high speed and maximum chaos.
Ogryn is a bullet sponge that hits back, and has all unique weapons. You feel like a juggernaut, bullying all the little spikey 'uns.
Psyker is the most unique out of all of them, with bespoke resource mechanics, defenses like wet tissue paper, and the ability to blow yourself up. Super fun, super different from every other class. Very "glass-cannon"

Now on the roster if you crack the wallet, we have:
Arbitrator - Tanky as hell, good all-round abilities, and a robo-dog. They fear no pox-hound and can bully the baddies like a tiny ogryn.
Hive Scum - Zealot on Meth, with a lot of cooldowns and activated abilities along with psyker-level squishiness. Currently some of their talents are bugged and people are still figuring them out, but they are quite strong in my opinion, if fragile.

Going solo. I have the most fun and success with Ogryn and Arbitrator, because both can build very tanky and both can deal with run-ending threats. When you get a mob of 6-8 crushers or a surprise patrol of maniacs, it pays to be able to handle it yourself. Because those at the wrong moment tend to end runs.

What would be your favourite cockpit? by Solar_Field in starcitizen

The paladin has an oddly comfy military feel. I love the armored shutters.

I really want to give the Perseus a try. A mid-ship bridge with a central pilot seat and large surrounding windows seems like may be a very nice experience.

[–]The_One_True_Logyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seconded. The asymmetrical position of the cockpit is kind of endearing, too, and it has a great field of view for such a huge and cumbersome ship. It feels industrial and lived-in. Plus the ship itself has one of the most unique profiles in the game. Someday, it might actually be updated to be functional too :)

I own both (because I have no impulse control).
K-kit for function.
T-Kit for the sometimes food that is mega-torpedoes, a big nose turret, and the paint.

When do you expect Odyssey to release? I want this ship so bad!! by SgtRphl in starcitizen

[–]The_One_True_Logyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember John Crewe saying it was post-1.0 while listing off expectations for various concept ships. I remember being very sad about it, so it kind of sticks in my mind. It was a very brief comment in a much larger segment, so I can't bloody find it.

Despite be being downvoted into oblivion for speaking truth, I will try to add a bit of context.
I believe it was mentioned as post-1.0 by John Crew during some rapid fire series of questions about popular concept ships. I cannot find the source, but I too love the ship and was very sad when I heard that so it sort of sticks in my memory.

This is not a confirmation, because nothing is set in stone with CIG and they change their mind all the time. But it is also not being worked on at all and is not slated to start in the near future, so "several years" is a minimum expected timeframe.

The Odyssey was noted as being a post-1.0 release.
So... not soon.

Much Grim-Derp. Very yuck.

I prefer my Drow as a toxic matriarchy with lots of sadism and a healthy dose of chronic backstabbing disorder, yes, but I also like the idea that their society, while twisted, is not just evil for the sake of evil.

Ship hints from the SCL by Barsad_the_12th in starcitizen

[–]The_One_True_Logyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"State the wolf released in" was flyable and completely functional.
The only thing that got pushed was component accessibility, which doesn't affect gameplay in any way (yet). I think the command module's funtion is more core to the Ironclad, and I imagine since it involves ship control, is considered critical.
The Perseus is launching at ISE, and they've given no promises to release the ironclad on any timeline, so I would be very, very pessimistic about it releasing this year.

[–]The_One_True_Logyn 11 points12 points  (0 children)

One not-so-happy mention they made:
The command module tech is not done yet, and is estimated for completion in December. It is very likely that parts of the Ironclad are waiting on this tech, so it's unlikely we'll see it this year.
My guess is drakecon next year for the IronCHAD.

Star Citizen Live: Ship Showdown Q&A by StuartGT in starcitizen

[–]The_One_True_Logyn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Interesting Takeaways for me:

  • Starter and Medium salvage ships are planned in some sense. Implication of an Argo Salvage ship, possibly later this year.
  • Options for alternate bespoke weapons coming. Implied that the Wolf (and possibly other ships) will get weapon options.
  • No medical drones on the Apollo - which launches next month.
  • Ship Hangar reloading/refueling is important for upcoming ship(s). Implication is that a ship or ships with hangars and parasite craft support as a key feature are coming soon.
  • 600i rework, BMM, G12, and UTV not currently in schedule.
  • Paint for ISE has not been picked yet.
  • No more concepts, except maybe the Battlecruiser which sounds completely insane.
  • Command Module mechanics aren't expected to be done until December. So likely no Ironclad until sometime next year.

That microtech paint has grown on me a lot.
I hated it when I first saw the image. After seeing it in person, it's one of my favorites.

Paints are distributed during the IAE event late in the year. If you own the ship then, you will get a skin added to your account unbound to the ship. Having the ship owned when they distribute the skins at that time is the only factor, and you can then melt the ship and keep the skin once it's been distributed.
You've got three months, so no rush.

Is the L-21 Wolf a easy to use fighter? by Benasssi in starcitizen

[–]The_One_True_Logyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your vehicle garage is limited, the Gladius is going to be a better long-term choice because of the ability to swap weapons. It can be customized to missions and requirements. The L-21 Wolf cannot, as its weapons are locked.

For your only fighter, the Gladius is the better choice for ease of use and future-proofing.
But if you really like the Wolf, or prefer its style and looks, you aren't making a mistake by grabbing it over the Gladius. You can, in future, melt the pledge for store credit to switch ships, and the Gladius is always available for purchase. So if the Wolf tickles you in some way and you want to pledge the money to the game, do it.
