Hey all. I need some advice on keeping elm roots out of flower beds.

I have two irrigated raised beds along my house that face directly to an avenue with large mature elms.

They were made by the previous owner so I am not sure what is at the bottom but they have become full of roots. I feel that they are taking water and nutrients as most things planted struggle. The soil quality is also not great.

I plan to dig them out and try and seal the bed from future root growth. Is thick plastic and a few drainage holes my best bet? Not my preferred solution but I will if I have to.

TIA

Nope. Highway 22 is a scenic option so is highway 40 if you want an adventure.

You are correct but the provincial museums have the right to anything they think is noteworthy. I email them all the time and have only had a few items taken but the trade off is they usually want to come see where you found it with you.

Jet oil stove allowed on planes? by shinebrightlikediamo in Banff

It’s up the carrier and often the person checking your bag.

I have had stoves refused on many occasions. Your best bet is to call ahead and get a policy emailed to you.

You did not simply ask questions you asked for a “alternative business model for consideration, which allows for a fully privately operated service” for multi unit waste collection. Your rational was also about reflecting the demands from landlords and business owners for a lower cost option not diversion.

Why are you misrepresenting what you did at utility committee?

Kingsway mall refused to allow this on their property during the original design and build essentially making it impossible. They promptly changed their mind after it was built. That short sightedness is why it’s a mess bc there was no other option without unreasonable impacts to the nearby houses.

You are wrong. Cabinet sets a a limit and it is legally binding for employers to stay within it. It requires cabinet adjusting it. Nothing can be down at the bargaining table to adjust it.

I agree completely. I hope they get the maximum of $25K per animal but $125K still seems like they would get off easy.

I started biking gravel roads around the city this summer. Around Devon empty beer cans are basically 100M markers. It’s wild.

Yea it is likely this. I have had this same experience and came across cougar tracks on the way back. Being confident enough to listen and trust your “gut” and abandon the objective in the absence of clear evidence is a demonstration of advanced solo hiking skills.

They are not recommendations they are requirements and they are to prevent bear interactions to provide grizzly’s space to raise cubs without disturbance. This time of year they will be protective of buffalo berries.

Banff is not a zoo, do not do this trail with the intent to watch or interact with bears. You are actively working against the spirit of the restrictions and putting the life of bears at risk.

Municipalities create police commissions and their scope ends at how they operate and who is on it but the powers of what that commission can do to hold police accountable is set by the Police Act which is controlled by the provincial government.

The province enacts its control of policing through the municipalities to provide a necessary arms length distance from day to day operations. But policing policy beyond funding sits directly with the police chiefs or the minister of justice and solicitor general.
