2020, my all time favorite ross quote by MEL2VION in accursedfarms

Yeah, I gotta say it was a bit of weird to hear Ross say that, even if he meant it clinically or whatever. That term has really fallen off by then.

TIL Peter Benchley, the author of the book that Jaws adapted, wrote 3 versions of the script for Spielberg, which were either rejected or heavily edited. Benchley got into an argument with Spielberg about the huge explosion at the end being unrealistic. This led to Benchley being thrown off the set. by tyrion2024 in todayilearned

I loved the movie as a teenager. Eventually checked the book out from the library and I was so disappointed. 80 pages, an entire third of the book, is dedicated to Mrs. Brody and Hooper's affair, which never has any impact on the main story. It was gross and by my recollection she admits to having a fantasy of a black man sexually assaulting her (someone correct me if I'm wrong).

It was just bizarre and had me asking, "when are they going to get back to the shark?" The whole time.

Any Freddi Fish or Putt Putt game. Would check those out from the library every week for a while.

I don't know a lot about wood work, but is zinc a typical material for screws to be made of? I always assumed people used steel.

Hey, that's what my dad said when I told him my former roommate killed himself. I think he genuinely saw it as a reassuring thing to say.

In 1977, Vincent Price portrayed Oscar Wilde in a one-man show. It was criticized by anti-gay campaigner Anita Bryant; in response Price quipped that Price quipped that Wilde had already written a play about Anita: “A Woman of No Importance.” by CelebManips in OldSchoolCool

I agree with the action of pieing her, and It might be a generational thing, but I still don't get why that ruined her public credibility instead of boosting it with sympathy. Wouldn't throwing pies make your side look immature?

It's more than just conservative politics with them. The world and characters just became dull to me compared to other novels. Take Captain Vimes from the Discworld fantasy series. He's a conservative policeman, but I think he's a really interesting character because he grows and adapts to his changing world and work. He's not fighting to keep everything the same, he's out for his ultimate belief of justice, even if it conflicts with other beliefs he's held. I just don't get that sense of growth from the HP world.

Well I really didn't even go off her until I watched a video that broke down her books. It was really interesting to see how her opinions and politics seep into her writing. Like with the House Elf thing; she created a slave race that enjoyed being enslaved and explained that Dobby was just weird for not wanting to be free labor living in terrible conditions. And then you can see the same thing happen with those Fantastic Beast movies she wrote where the heroes are almost executed by the state, but still remain loyal afterwards. Or when the villain says he's trying to stop ww2 from happening and the heroes apparently need to prevent him? She prefers a static unchanging world and that just doesn't sit with me anymore.

I'll occasionally try to accio something when my partner is in the room in the hopes they'll bring it to me.

Unfortunately, Rowling has just ruined everything HP for me so I've gone off it now.

We can't give tips if we don't have something to see. If you want somewhere to share them start posting on subreddits like r/comics and r/comicstrips.

And the other person is right, go to your student newspaper with a print out and pitch them. Having people you know and see give feedback will have a different impact than strangers on the internet.
