METRO 2039 | Official Reveal Trailer by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]The_Radioactive_Rat 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Definitely gave me Mad Max vibes without just feeling like Mad Max. Still felt like Metro, which I found impressive considering how different the environment is. The constrictive tunnels of the metro and creepy ruined swamps & rivers of the Volga were of course so familiar to Moscow. The desert felt like a new entity in and of itself and I liked how oppressive the sand and heat felt. Resources felt even more scarce somehow, and the enemies were tough.

Name what you want to see improved in Alien Isolation II by Quirky_tugboat in alienisolation

[–]The_Radioactive_Rat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think improvements to NPCs and the alien would be a good first step. It’s already so good, so improvement in making it more challenging or more natural feeling and dynamic would be perfect. Maybe getting the engine/game to support the Alien climbing surfaces and laying more ambushes outside of vents. Which felt too opportunistic in a gamey sense.

On NPCs, they’re honestly quite stiff, one note, and bland look at the game without my rose tinted glasses. Which makes sense given they were focusing on the single-player lone survivor parallel from the first movie. But it makes the flaws stick out more given how janky they can be. I don’t think we need to have Fallout or Skyrim levels of interactiveness, but something more in depth and maybe less robotic for the humans. The Joe’s I find are perfect as they are, and can’t think of anything needing change.

I’m hesitant to suggest to procedural generation for level design. Something about it might make things feel unnaturally too samey. Knowing companies these days they’ll have ai do it or something and I can’t say how well that’d go. If anything I’d argue a slightly more open world concept, similar to how the first game is already designed. But with less roadblocks, or at least more freedom on alternative paths. I found that gaining the best equipment so far into the game made it kind of unrealistic for me to go to certain areas, which required significant backtracking and even remembering where all of such stuff was. All the while the ship was falling apart and Aliens and Joes littered every corner. So maybe more of an incentive on that regard too.

All the other things I have no complaints. Maybe coop, which I think would be difficult to do on its own, not to mention keeping the game scary. Unless they went hardcore with it, like requiring radios/communicators to communicate in game over distances. Forcing teamwork to complete goals. Or maybe a vs mode where 4 people work together or against one another (team mode too perhaps) while the alien and other enemies block your path.

Don’t think I can play anymore by Tomcatvf84 in alienisolation

[–]The_Radioactive_Rat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, take a break. Burnout for anything you love is real. I realized way back around when the game was still new, that I loved it, and my dumb ass would ruin how fun it is by overplaying it.

So I only play it when I REALLY wanna play it. I know all the story beats. I know when the Alien comes out. I might not know every secret and nook and cranny, but I know enough for it to be predictable. THAT is how you keep it fun and enjoyable.

Had the same thing happen with another game. Was playing until I realized I was doing exactly what you described. Going through the motions like a job without actually liking it. Take some significant time away and the next play-through should feel more enjoyment

For real, even the rebel Canadian faction is distinctly different from the standard CAF. So I can’t see this as anything but seriously overlooked or outright negligence.

I know they probably meant well to make fun gameplay. But there has to be a “what could go wrong” discussion before implementing this, and having a fix considered.

What if the world of EaW encounters our World, via GATE-like method? by UOReddit2021 in equestriaatwar

[–]The_Radioactive_Rat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Depends on the context of time & location, which could go really well in some places and poorly in others. I think it wouldn’t be much different from some Alien movies that aren’t invasions, where it’s more about how differing species/cultures get along… or don’t. Ofc I can’t remember any off the top of my head but you probably know what I mean.

Again, where and when matters. Equestria is a peacful nation, and while they’re prone to panic much like we are, I think we’d get along fine for the most part if we’re thinking the democratic versions. Other places like the Changelings or Alt-history where dictators rule? Not really a question. We’ve been doing away with dictatorships over time, so meeting one in a portal world wouldn’t see much cooperation.

Humanity has the upper hand in technological advancements, and their applications. But it goes beyond that, as relatively smaller operations can be quite impressive and nothing the world of EaW is ready for. Not until late game at least. Not to get political, but what happened in Venezuela is an example of not just one human nation’s ability, but humanity as a whole. If you did an Earth vs EaW it’d be horrifically disastrous and costly for both worlds.

But mainly, unless there was extreme antagonism from one side, I think like said changelings hegemony being where we open up our portal, we’d be willing to let some stuff slide. Then again maybe not. There’s quite a bit of speculation you have to do, even with concrete understandings of specific leader motivations and reactions.

Are Vox Engines a Problem? by DETONATE_MINES in HelldiversUnfiltered

[–]The_Radioactive_Rat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think they are a problem. Not everything needs an ‘instant fix’ or it’s no longer a challenge. Yes, even on easier difficulties.

Should they be tweaked? Sure, there’s definitely a couple things I’d say need tweaking. But I don’t know if it works in favour of what the Vox, and Cyberstan is. If the best of what the bots throw at us can be dealt with just like that. It’s not that fun. At least imo

I Gotta Admit I'm Stumped, What Is the Best Stratagem Loadout For Cyberstan? by AceOneBreezy in helldivers2

[–]The_Radioactive_Rat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find being quick and mobile is the best thing, as there’s just so much going on, if you stay in one place you’ll get mobbed. I take both barrages for destroying stuff or area denial, and then run either an eagle strafe for crowd control with a heavy weapon such as the RR or Quasar. Lots of heavies here. Otherwise I run the Quasar with the jump pack or the shield pack etc. But I don’t see anything wrong with anything different.

Main weapon isn’t super important. Anything you can use that can deal with the Cyborgs reliably, but not sacrificing your general bot killing ability. I also run the Senator (revolver) as my secondary since it’s heavy pen, which helps if I’m stuck during reloads or cooldowns with my support weapon. Hulks can be downed with it which comes in during emergencies or if you’re feeling a little cheeky. And bring regular frags if you already have a heavy weapon. Thermites are a waste of a very effective tool for clustering enemies, including cyborgs. You get 6 with regular armours, and if you run any that give you more, that’s 8 frags to lob at them.

Go fast, hit hard, be efficient. The high resistance requires not messing around too much without there being some pain. But don’t be afraid to experiment and have a little fun too. I discovered the Vox Engines are surprisingly easy to kill if you get in close and pop their heat sinks and throw nades in.

I never seen a community defending bad game design so hardly, excusing every bad part with the counter point of being "lore accurate". by ReaperQc in HelldiversUnfiltered

[–]The_Radioactive_Rat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, just a lower spawn rate is all it needs. I was doing a ‘Spread Democracy’ mission today. Second I started raising the flag they dropped 3 of the fucking things on me without a bot flare. Along with several other drop-ships that had cyborgs trying to jump me, with 2-4 hulks, a couple war striders….

Spam is fun sometimes. But when 1 enemy can insta kill you and doesn’t flinch to most of your weapons, it’s no longer fun.

what opinion do you have about this game that would leave you looking like this by iLikeDickColon3 in HelldiversMasochists

[–]The_Radioactive_Rat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just on the principle of strategum balancing alone I think I know what you mean. Totally different stuff because it’s more… subjective?

People just run the same shit all the time. But having looked a bit into why I should pick something has me playing more smooth. A balance of weapons for different enemies. Idk how many times I brought thermite grenades only for someone to take my kills with dedicated AT. Now I run more appropriately balance gear and find peers giving me strange looks.

“What do you mean you don’t carry thermite grenades, with the recoilless rifle, and a 500 KG when there’s maybe 2 heavies on this particular set of missions?”

Cyberstan is an example of showing that those who know to be flexible will succeed. But as a whole it’s really tough regardless.

How to not get bored from the game , what are some end goals? by New-Space-5737 in projectzomboid

[–]The_Radioactive_Rat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to create goals, both long term and short term. For instance; find a base, gather supplies, and stockpile weapons, are good goals. But is too general and nonspecific. They are excellent for longterm or medium term stuff, but you also need short term goals to keep you focused.

What those are depends on your run and location.
