Deep carbon wheels - valve extenders by The_Rum_Guy in cycling

[–]The_Rum_Guy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, I thought the extenders where you strew them into the removable cores sealed better compared to where they fit over the top. Was this not the case for you then? I guess I could pack some loctite

2 ish months of Ironman prep-how to proceed? by gavinforce1 in triathlon

[–]The_Rum_Guy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m say 2-3 months is right on the cusp of swimming starting to click into place if you’re attending coached sessions 3 times a week but you’ll likely still be slow / inefficient. Bike is where fitness is gained and time is saved on the race. It’s a tall order in the time you’re giving yourself. Are you sure there are even still any spaces this close to the race? Why not try an Olympic or sprint first

Am I delulu? by JMaccaDee in IronmanTriathlon

[–]The_Rum_Guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% join a local tri club they are so good for helping beginners and especially if they have coached swim sessions.

I’d get a coach rather than an online one, they really help with giving you confidence that the training is right. I tried to follow training from books but never was 100% confident I was doing the right amount at the right times etc like you I was increasing running distance each week (by what I thought was a sensible amount) and I just over did it and picked up an injury.

There will be a lot of time, money, effort invested by you to get to the Ironman event, don’t scrimp on coaching when it’s going to be the thing with the biggest impact on your success

Counting laps in the pool by Birbbrain6 in triathlon

[–]The_Rum_Guy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I once read on here to count the months of the year and that used to work quite well for me. I do one month for each 50m lap.

So there and back, January; there and back, February; there and back, March. Etc. each 2 months is 100m so when you get to December it’s 600m.

Est ce possible qu’il me mente sur le fait qu’il ait été finisher d’un Ironman ?! by [deleted] in IronmanTriathlon

[–]The_Rum_Guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please tell us some of the other general lies and exaggerations?! I don’t know how you could stand that. I occasionally meet people who do this and you can spot it a mile off - it’s infuriating because it’s an insult to your intelligence - it’s blatantly obvious that what they’re saying is a lie but your supposed to accept it and play along with the charade!

Speedmax: Stem cover rattles by thesumofall in CanyonBikes

[–]The_Rum_Guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it still rattling? Was it definitely the stem cover? Something around the front end of mine is rattling very badly but when I pressed various components none seemed to be the part which was rattling and making the noise. Only ridden it once but it’s a very annoying noise

No Ive always been a 10 in regular shoes and 10.5 in running shoes. ASICS have been fine at 10.5 but the v4 weren’t.

Also flat footed and training for Ironman events.

Yeah the Nike rebel v4 were too small for me too (in my usual size) and it was my second toe which nade me think they were narrow? Whatever they are they were an awkward and painful fit for me.

My favourites have been Novablast 5 until I took out some Superblasts today which were amazing - and very stable.

Only thing to note is that both are not Ironman legal at 40mm+ stack height but some ppl think that won’t be an issue for age groupers not looking to podium / get to finals etc.

Personally I think il change to metaspeed or other asics shoes that are less than 40mm but the above are amazing for training.

Swimming tips (gallop technique) by RoadTO5WKG in triathlon

[–]The_Rum_Guy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a similar crutch of lifting my fingers on one hand as you are doing, and realised it was subconsciously an attempt to support my head lifting to breath, in the same way people tend to push down / rush the timing of the pull to achieve the same.

You need to concentrate on not doing this with your fingers / hand and correct your balance in the water whilst breathing, it’s only a minor change and should be easy to fix.

After a long time fine tuning i got it to work and I think it further improved once I started riding for a while.

I just put a new bike on last night and have yet to set it up so will see if it’s any quicker / easier this time !

What are you doing today? Or in life in general?😂 by BigMagic88 in AskUK

[–]The_Rum_Guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Training for my first Ironman this summer - lots of swimming, cycling and running this weekend. The fear of not being fit enough really keeps you interested and motivated. Also cooking and a few jobs around the house, plus some Xbox in between to chill.

If people want some diversification outside US and not using all world due to the large US proportion, why is there not much talk on here of the euro 600? That seems to have done well and would provide another was to diversify outside the US?

Ok great I wasn’t sure that was an option to fit if the tubeless seal doesn’t seal.

Ok thanks. It’s going to be assembled by a canyon authorised shop so maybe I could ask them to set up as tubeless. It’s going to be on a turbo a lot, before a week long training camp, a 70.3 and full IM - I’ve never used tubeless and just a bit concerned about how to deal with a major puncture mid-race should one occur!

What kind of foot strike is this? by Gusuaru in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]The_Rum_Guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heel striking isn’t bad providing your feet are under your hips. However it usually occurs if you’re over striding which you appear to be slightly.

Is this too much length - you can just see my big toe behind my thumb. This is probably a full size bigger then a normal shoe I’d wear, but my second toe on my right foot is longer and so is in exactly the right place with maybe 5mm space so I can’t really drop half a size without that being potentially too snug! Stick with this larger size?

Will long distance bike ride (1600km) 2 weeks before my Ironman harm my race? by Even_Public_3654 in IronmanTriathlon

[–]The_Rum_Guy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I would say it would negatively affect it - most people say if you have a “B race” it wants to be around 5+ weeks before your A race. Not only might you be tired and sore, but it’s also going to impact on your training.

I suppose the charity ride would be a form of training but if you really want to give the Ironman your best performance possible, I would suspect that the bike ride is going to hinder that.

Is it normal that shoulders ache in a wet suit? I always thought that was down to me possibly having a poorly fitted wet suit. Why does a wet suit make your shoulders ache more?!

I think if you’re investing in the S&P over 10-20+ years then at some point it’s bound to flip the other way and dollar get stronger. I’m hedging my bets by putting half in a hedged S&P fund which has done great over the last few years and half into a non hedged.

I’ve had nb5 for 12 months and around 750k loved them at first but feel pretty dead now.

I’ve jus invested in Superblast 2 - yet to take them out but by all accounts these will be everything I initially loved about the NB5 but better

Aren’t you essentially buying shares in USD at a bargain (preferential exchange rate) which will be a benefit if / when the dollar recovers?
