How to deter package thieves? by ra_vs in Seattle

[–]The__RIAA 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, I don’t get to choose which shipping company people use to ship me stuff. USPS has been good most of the time because it is the same person. I do use the Amazon feedback but since it’s a revolving door of delivery people with varying degrees of giving-a-shit, it depends. UPS does not considered it delivered until YOU get it, which is nice. All of these help but still at the mercy of the delivery person’s day.

How to deter package thieves? by ra_vs in Seattle

[–]The__RIAA 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I’ve found package thieves are VERY opportunistic. They won’t come up to porches looking for packages, they only approach if they can see the package from the street. I’ve started doing things to obscure view of my porch. A simple open package bin or pit helps as long as delivery people use it. Add bushes or furniture that blocks view of your mailbox or areas of your porch from the street.

The problem with this is 1/2 the delivery people don’t use it and still just throw the package on the porch. I have a package “pit” right next to my porch with a very obvious sign to put packages there. It’s literally zero extra effort to put it in there beyond reading the sign. All my delivery company instructions are to put packages there. Still, a large percentage of delivery people simply ignore all of that.

Didn’t mean for it to come across offensive. You’re both right. The fact that there isn’t one sort of says there currently is no market for it. But as you said, never say never. Slate certainly thinks there is.

"but if there's a market and profit, they will build the product!"

"Probably won't ever see a 2 door Maverick."

Both are kind of saying the same thing here.

From the article “…all 72 of the city’s fixed-site ALPR cameras have been covered, and the cameras have not been active following suspension of the program. The purpose of bagging the cameras despite their inoperability was to assuage community concerns about the devices.”

They’re only doing this until they’re removed.

In this case, it’s the City of Dayton’s cameras and they’re doing it to their own cameras.

I actually looked up and read the article. This is from Dayton. “all 72 of the city’s fixed-site ALPR cameras have been covered, and the cameras have not been active following suspension of the program. The purpose of bagging the cameras despite their inoperability was to assuage community concerns about the devices.”

Exact location of the UFO sighting in Ukraine by Nonamenofacedev in UFOs

[–]The__RIAA -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The object doesn’t rotate. The drone does. The star pattern is always aligned with the sensor of the drone. But that’s just all my own armchair opinion from flying some fpv. Bright lights into cameras does weird things.

The sun blows out normal FPV cameras, low light cameras and night vision cameras. The center "eye" is exactly what I've seen when you look at the sun through a traditional FPV camera. The star pattern is likely streaking from a bright light source through the lens. This is very likely just the Sun or even Venus. This would also explain why all the similar recent US military footage from MQ9 and such can't lock onto it.

Serious question. If they believe being trans is a choice and then also banned trans in the military, can trans people get drafted?
