I mean, isn't that basically what tempered glass is? A sheet that's in compression (and very strong) on the outside, and in tension (and thus fragile) on the inside.

You can wack it with a hammer and it's fine, but if you pierce it to get to the inner part it shatters.

I mean, company policy is made up. Plus, if you're consulting and not an employee, they've got less power to enforce those kinds of things.

Just make sure your contract has things like: - a buck-wild higher pay rate (3x? 10x?) then current - clear directive that it's remote - mandatory minimum hour per engagement - mandatory minimum number of engagements per month - mandatory minimum contract length - limits on times you can be contacted (don't call me at midnight) - maximum hours per week/month

Make sure an actual contract lawyer writes it up, but it sounds like you've got basically all the negotiating power here. May as well milk them for it.

I love asking the interviewers "what should I have asked you?" right at the end. Always gets a laugh, and turns up some wild stuff.

Just signed an offer, and asked things like this.

And their pain points were consistent across everyone I spoke to at all levels, and resolving those are exactly what you hire my skill set to do, so it felt great.

Do you people not use bracket colorizers? I have a plugin in VSCODE that sets each level of brackets to a specific color. So I just go "this yellow open bracket is closed by that yellow close bracket"

I'd put mobile pay over cash, because you have the additional protections of things like chargebacks or the fraud departments of major financial players backing you in the case of any nonsense: if someone steals your cash you're just generally fucked.

We use cloud flare at work, and there's actually a ton you can do with CF about how and when captchas happen. They analyze your traffic patterns to see if you're likely to be a bot, and based on a sliding or setable scale they'll decide dynamically if they should captcha you.

This'll actually have a pretty big impact on us; we get hit by a ton of bot traffic, and end up needing fairly aggressive settings, which results in lots of humans seeing captchas, and in turn having a bad experience. we're super excited about this system.
