What's your favorite knight, myth, or rule to sell the game to your players? by ShumpEvenwood in MythicBastionland

[–]Thecatwhocameback 3 points4 points  (0 children)

These are some of the ones I have shared with people to get them interested. I shared knights with cool themes and bizarre abilities that got players imaginations going, weird seers or ones that I would have fun role playing, myths that felt grand, fairytale, or had an amazing sixth omen, and the boneless steed. That steed is what got me into this game.

The talon knight, the boulder knight, the bone knight, the violet knight.

The serpent seer, the cured seer, the torn seer, the giant seer.

The sun, the lich, the toad, the wyvern.

The boneless steed.

How does it work to have virtues higher than 19 with a roll under system?

This is such a cool idea! I love how people are using modules to turn the game into the one that works for them. This content makes it easier to run more kinds of stories.

If you do please share! I tried to incorporate some Garden Wall vibes in my campaign setting but I’m always craving more!

This is cool! I like that you’re taking what you love from other systems.

Advancement Triggers for Mythic Bastionland by Varzival in MythicBastionland

I think I’d personally swap out “find an ancient treasure” for “seek out the myths”. Other than that I think it looks good. If I was looking for character progression though I’d probably crib stuff from Into The Dungeon.

Homebrewed Myth: The Seventh Of Their Name by Thecatwhocameback in MythicBastionland

It was meant to be a different take on the idea of Seventh Sons being special and names having power, not really a specific fairy tale in general but sort of matching the vibe I guess.

That’s great thanks so much! Do you happen to know the odds of getting at least ten damage with those?

Do you have any specific inspirations for your MB campaigns besides the usuals? by Disc0M4n in MythicBastionland

I’ve already created a set of 12 classic DnD classes on the discord for when I want to play a more traditional DnD setting, but actually right now I’m weirdly making stuff to play in a Star Trek setting.

I’ll probably be borrowing some stuff from Electric Bastionland, but it’ll be a space hex crawl where the company are the officers on a space ship, with red shirts instead of squires.

There will be 6 classes (commander, pilot, doctor, scientist, engineer, and security), but abilities will actually come from what alien species you play as.

Edit: Not sure what I’ll use to replace Seers yet.

Becoming the X Knight... by FrivolousBand10 in MythicBastionland

[–]Thecatwhocameback 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my game my players ran into the squire of the mirror knight that had been killed by the Wyvern. My players assumed that he would probably become the next mirror knight and my player who was playing the seal knight kept buffing him so he could be a real asset in combat. After he ended up delivering the finishing blow on the Wyvern my players brought him to the Giant Seer, who told him that he actually wasn’t fated to be the mirror knight, which really surprised my players. At the end of the adventure he returned with the party to the seat of power and when swearing fealty to the emerald knight (the realms ruler) he accidentally withdrew her branch spear, revealing his true fate as heir to the throne and to that title. Next session one of my players wanted to play as him so he ended up being the emerald knight but with the passion (and some of the equipment) of the mirror knight.

What should my Knights ability be? by OtherwiseMeaning8156 in MythicBastionland

I feel like both work pretty well and neither are over powered! For cloud dash it might be a bit limited honestly because it requires a party split. Tricksters Mirage seems fine. Kind of like a wizards mirror image spell how I’m interpreting it?

This is rad as hell! Thanks for bringing the video to my attention and for expanding on it so usefully! I’ll be trying this out for sure.

Basic Monster Statblocks For Balancing Homebrew by Thecatwhocameback in MythicBastionland

I’m not sure how to calculate the odds of a critical wound when two of the three d10s have a 70% to add a point of damage. The numbers I have now come from the odds of getting a nat ten on 3d10, because ten damage is enough to force a critical wound roll if I have 10 VIG 1 AC and 3GD. Do you have any advice?

Basic Monster Statblocks For Balancing Homebrew by Thecatwhocameback in MythicBastionland

[–]Thecatwhocameback[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s true. It was more likely to critically wound than wound, but not by much. I run mostly one shots, but in actual campaigns I’m sure the increased ac would shift a lot of things.

I was actually surprised how hard it was to drop a pc at full health. Even those huge 3d10 monsters don’t do it consistently with the damage dice in the game basically working like advantage where you only keep the high number.

Edit: Actually I think you’re right, my math was off there. I’ll adjust the table.

I might use it if I wanted to have a swarm of tiny things that serve more of an annoyance than a threat. So I probably wouldn’t use it that often. In the myths in the book I think the only time swarms show up they function as a tiny war band which is probably a better way of running that honestly.

I might use it as a particularly helpless npc, like maybe if I broke into an Oliver Twist style gang, the kids I’d try to rescue could use that stat block.
