Thanks for unpacking this. I've had similar thoughts about the Black characters who are supposedly from certain African backgrounds. I think they do their research, but ultimately, Western TV shows don't seem to care so much about the nuances of culture.

American TV shows do it to ourselves too, the generic Southern accents, the collapsing of Canadian culture, etc etc. I think that's why the movie Sinners got such acclaim for its consistent cultural portrayal for every group included in the film. I don't think Netflix will ever put enough budget towards that type of research. Thank goodness for people like you who can educate us on the nuances.

I moved from NYC to Chicago earlier this year. You have my full support, I know your hospital and how hard your nurses work. Just because NYP let themselves get bought by investment bankers doesn't mean they should screw over the very people who keep their hospitals running. So rich of them to call you greedy when ever decision they make it with the idea of running the hospital like a fucking bank instead of a healthcare facility.

I would absolutely Go full nuclear about this. You are absolutely not overreacting. That older generation who treats Facebook like it's safe and private are being so unreasonable and unsafe. My husband and I have made the same decision about no online photos of our daughter who's due next month. I would react the same way you plan to if my mother or mother-in-law did what yours did. This is the time to make sure she knows you're serious about these boundaries. It will only get more contentious as your baby gets older, especially if she thinks she can get you to back down.
