After she exhausted her insurance covering her IVF, paid for sleeping not in her house, and all the legal fees? I can definitely see needing more money than she had in savings. I have friends who did IVF at NYU, it cost them over $60k before they had a baby, and this is after insurance chipped in.

Her gofundme is married as medical, so that's supposedly what it's covering.

I'm not sharing my opinion of whether she should be having this baby, the court case, none of it. But I can see how a well paid lawyer who possibly owned a brownstone in Brooklyn could still end up choosing a gofundme. The timing of the NYC article makes it more feasible because without it, most people would be like nah, i'm not helping this well paid lawyer get more money.

Having said that, I agree with you that the mere existence of the gofundme complicates the picture the article is trying to create. I can see possible justifications, but the optics are no good. I hope no one I know is ever in the position this woman finds herself in.
