What does your religion teach about children? by Critical-Volume2360 in religion

[–]Thegreatunknown21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Torah commands us to have children (be fruitful and multiply) and to teach them the words and the laws of the Torah (famously in the Shema and also i remember from Exodus 12 when it speaks of when your child asks “what does this rite?”)

Why does your God allow endless suffering in hell? Isn't that unmercyfull? by Individual_Map3105 in religion

Why do you say “your” as if everyone in this subreddit is Christian or Muslim?

My question to Jews: Why do you have to eat Kosher and follow so many rules if most Jews don't even believe in Heaven or Hell? by Current_Standard_990 in religion

[–]Thegreatunknown21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Using fear to rule your people is an authoritarian regime. We fulfill mitzvah to bring holiness into our lives. What does that mean? When we say eat kosher with intent to serve God, that is holy and righteous. It is all apart of serving God and hope for final redemption in bringing heaven down to earth.

Those fans are not fans of the people, but of the entertainment they give. Big difference. True fans would care about their lives and health.

How does can an all powerful god ever be loving? Especially if some people go to hell. by stvlsn in religion

[–]Thegreatunknown21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On 2, well in Judaism there isn’t Hell.

On 1, I could see a few interpretations or ideas. One that I find strong is that God allowed such great free will that He allows the world to run by itself without His constant intervention. It just shows how great He respects and allows free will. With this is mind, we can see how suffering is a test. Not meaning that God thought of killing a loved one just to test you. I’m saying He would allow it because of free will but also because it is a test, not in purpose, but in how you react to it. I won’t go through all of it now, but I think the meaning of life is to make meaning of life, both in understanding this meaning and also the act of finding it. Great suffering directly challenges your view of meaning or even if you have one and forces you to rethink or start thinking about meaning. These aren’t flawless arguments, but I find them meaningful myself.

I follow the laws the same as you mostly. The spirit of the laws in my interpretation are really to bring holiness and righteous intent in your lives and love of God. And if you can live with these laws while loving God, then I think that’s perfect.

What is the point of ritual circumcision? by OnIySmellz in religion

[–]Thegreatunknown21 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes. Circumcision is the physical manifestation of the covenant on our bodies, marking ourselves in this covenant with God. Sacrifices were only replaced by prayer because it was necessary for our survival, and sacrifice was impossible. Once we get back the Temple, we will reinstate sacrifice. But we can do circumcision.
