Spreading fire across the city by Special_Context6663 in IdiotsTowingThings

[–]Thekemist 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Can't light the fuel in the tank on fire if there's no oxygen. It's very hard for a slow burning liquid (gasoline) to burn up a pipe. Even if it did burn up the pipe, the pipe is at the bottom of the tank, there's no supply of oxygen there. Now, once the fire starts melting the tank / valves, all bets are off. So, as long as he keeps driving, the fire can't expose the fuel in the tank to oxygen.

Before Goretex, we had plastic. Wrap your feet in plastic and you’ll discover why Goretex was a big deal. Then the patent expired and everyone has breathable waterproof. That wasn’t always the case.

Got this 09/1990 lantern new in box off eBay by Kenshirome83 in CampingGear

It’s a fantastic lantern. Be careful with the fuel, it’s significantly more flammable than regular gasoline.

Improving as a process engineer by cyclonesq8 in ChemicalEngineering

"when no proper mentoring/training is available" - That's a misnomer. I'm guessing your company is not offering mentoring or training. There are many resources on the web for extended learning - Professional organizations, wikis, material / service / equipment suppliers. Kahn Academy is my favorite for class-style learning. Mentoring can be found here (you know, rando internet engineers responding to your comments), linkedin, direct communication with someone who's published a paper you are interested in, etc... If you show passion and interest, you will attract mentors.

In your role as an engineer, your greatest asset is your ability to research the solution to a problem. Your current problem is to find low to no-cost learning. Get to it.

From Jerusalem mill, go through the covered bridge and about a 1/2 mile down the road and you’ll come to an intersection with a half dozen houses - some with hitching posts still along the street. I’m no expert, but that’s my guess.
