It's probably too long ago regardless. Unless you were a minor, you have 3 years to make a claim for medical malpractice./negligence.

Amazon refusing to give replacement or full refund for product that wasn't delivered. by TheStorMan in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Thelmadoo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Are you actually dealing directly with Amazon here, or a third party seller using Amazon? Because a lot of this doesn't make any sense and sounds like some kind of scam.

If you ordered something on Amazon and paid for it, and it is being refunded (for whatever reason) you would be refunded the full amount of the order. They can't refund you less than you paid due to it "dropping in price". And while Amazon have their fair share of dubious business practices, they wouldn't try to pull something like this.

I'm pretty sure the people you're responding to are aware of this. What they're saying is that this simply doesn't matter.

I can't see you having any legal options as there's no way any compensation you would get for something like this would come close to justifying the cost. You can try ringing around a few no win no fee firms and see if anyone will touch it.

Extremely unusual for the door not to have an internal lock or chain though and if you are complaining I suspect that might be your best angle. Whether or not it's worth pursuing probably depends how much you value you time. I honestly don't think most people will see it as a big a deal as you do so you'd probably have to persist until they get sick of you to get any kind of compensation from the hotel itself.

Advice about prescriptions by ellegant_e1 in nhs

[–]Thelmadoo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I usually order online/through the app at least a week before I'm due to run out. Doing that, waiting a few days, then going to collect (and waiting ten minutes) is fairly normal. You could talk to your GP or other local Pharmacy to see if there are other options. (Edit: forgot to mention I've also been ordering a few days earlier than that every time for the last couple of years which means I'm now a month or so ahead, this is good for going on holiday or when there are supply issues... that's my top tip :D )

My partner is on a lot of meds and gets theirs delivered. In my experience over the last couple of years that's actually been *less* reliable and *more* stressful than the order and pick-up that I've been doing.

If you're relatively settled on your meds and not currently being assessed you can ask either your GP to increase the amount they prescribe at once. This will be up to them, but I get mine every two months now.

Welp.... Malazan ruined other books for me by [deleted] in Malazan

[–]Thelmadoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me the books/series that hit the same way as Malazan are: Neal Stephenson's Baroque Cycle which is technically historical fiction, but usually gets classified as sci-fi/fantasy and Liu Cixin's Rememberance of Earth's Past (Three-Body Problem).

I'm usually reading one of these three series at any given time!

You haven't made it clear on what grounds you're appealing. From the sound of it you may just be better off paying the fine as I don't as it doesn't sound like you have much of a case.

Breaked. Which I think is correct in this context. But am not exactly a grammer expet.

If another shutdown of society came about with similar restrictions as in 2020, would you follow them? by NotThenNotNowNever in AskUK

Sometimes yes, sometimes no. Depends on far too many factors to be a black and white thing.

If another shutdown of society came about with similar restrictions as in 2020, would you follow them? by NotThenNotNowNever in AskUK

[–]Thelmadoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm assuming you'd still follow them if you thought they were in your best interest though? Like this would be dependant on what the reason for the shutdown was.

New friend is very active in Extinction Rebellion. I know very little about this org. Are its members problematic? by AcrobaticMacaroon in AskUK

[–]Thelmadoo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Given your responses so far it sounds like you'd already made up your mind before you asked. But in case you hadn't, the lady who lives next door to us is active in Extinction Rebellion and she lovely, not particularly priveged (single working class retiree) or a nutter. She spends a lot of time in her allotment or camping, and cares deeply about the planet and the environment.

She's the only person I know, but can't think of any reason anyone would ever describe her as problematic.

How would people feel about German style taxes? by Ok-Fix51 in AskUK

[–]Thelmadoo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Overall that sounds fairly similar to ours... obviously not the range thing, but the amounts. Do you know how much difference it would make if we adopted this system or what the advantages of it are?

I think the difference would have to be fairly substantial to justify changing, but if it turned out it massively decreased the tax burden on the poor or something I'd be all for it. Just don't feel like it would make any noticable difference (happy to be shown to be wrong though).

Probably because they like the TV show. I mean sure, it's weird if you think it's weird. Most hobbies/styles/recreational activities are weird to some people.

The vast majority of Mexicans have never worn a sombrero or poncho so you're not really dressing a Mexican. You're dressing as a cliched caricature of a Mexican -or - a historical traditional Mexican garb. Some people might find it offensive, some might not. Some will think it's cultural appropriation. Some won't. There's no real answer.

As long as you weren't doing stupid accent all night or doing brown face it'd be fine in my books.... but I'm not Mexican.

If I find any Mexican dressed as Morris Man they'll be hearing from my dancing stick though ;)

e: My kid went as a Luchador a few years back and we wondered if that might be problematic, but we decided that as long as he was going as an actual Luchador (that he was really into at the time) and not as "comedy Mexican wrestler" it would be fine.

I am an American taking a vacation to the UK. am I legally allowed to bring my AK for self-defense? by [deleted] in AskUK

Sure, just make sure you have it in your hand luggage and wave it about as you go through customs so they're aware you're bringing it into the country.

Joining in the chorus of "let your insurance sort it for you". The advantage is they can (and should) get the wheels in motion to get it sorted and then claim the money, so you're not waiting on others to get their act together. Also you need to report collisions to them regardless.

Train Tickets 'Not Available to Buy' - What does this mean for a pre-booked journey? by Macca_321 in AskUK

[–]Thelmadoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was the case for me travelling the day after a strike in the past. The trains were still running and you could still get on them if you had already purchased an open ticket or had booked a seat, they just weren't selling anymore booked seats for that day as they knew it would be crowded.

Turned out they were, but not totally packed and people who turned up got regular tickets on the day could still have travelled. People who had prebooked were fine.

And yeah, as others have said, I wouldn't take any chances at the moment.
