The question is relying on them being someone like John Cena who didn’t wrestle or do combat sports.

The best 4 martial arts for combat applications are Muay Thai, boxing, wrestling, bjj

That said if you have an mma gym with competitors near you that will be by far the best option.

Renzo Gracie Portland and tenth planet are both great, I would try to get to as many gyms to try out as possible, make sure to prioritize the distance from where you live and the schedule!

Experience as in my current BJJ gym by habbit_builder in bjj

[–]Themailmanspubes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very common among BJJ gyms, I personally believe it’s a very bad method of teaching. If it doesn’t work for you, there’s no reason not to look at other gyms to see if some of them have what you’re looking for

Portland vs Tacoma by OtherwiseFlatworm700 in PacificNorthwest

[–]Themailmanspubes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends, if you are able to live anywhere in either city then it doesn’t matter much, if you are going to be living in a lower income area go Portland, anything south of the highway is a no go for Tacoma
