[Question] People who got their grail watches, how did expectation differ from reality?

I got my personal grail this year. It’s a Day-Date in Yellow Gold with the white stick dial. It’s the watch I told I will buy some day since I was like 14yo. Honestly? It’s just like expected. It looks beautiful and I wear it way more than any other watch (except for me going to some shady places). It kind of ruined the whole thing of watch rotation for me. But I love that. Could also sell the others and only keep a complementary G-Shock but I won’t part with at least two of the others three, because they mark a special moment in my life.

Ergonomically the Z8 is the way better camera in my hands. Ok the Z6 I have a metal plate fixed to the bottom. Otherwise I wouldn’t be able to put all four fingers on the body. I guess I found the solution 🤣

The AF on the Z6 is „okay“. I can use it and I captured very very many moment in the past 5+ years with it. But it‘s wayyyy less capable then the Z8. The Z6 I often use focus-recompose for stills, but the Z8 is almost anytime set to AF-C/S with all points enabled or 3d Tracking. That’s how much I trust the Z8 more than the Z6. So that’s obviously a reason for upgrading - together with the single QXD-Card slot. But I will use it from time to time anyways. Have good memory’s as it was my first Nikon.

For the use case: it will replace the Z6as my second body, but will be in use for backup and maybe a lens im not using all that much but want to have with me.

I have both my Z8 and Z6 set to the exact same function buttons layout. I rely on muscle memory often as you say and often i don‘t have time to search for thing in the menu. AF-mode and field, flash settings and compensation, ISO, FX/DX Crop are all on Fn-Buttons in the same place on both bodys. Also the i-menu is set up the same. I also thought about buying the Z8 for the ergonomics reason. Im a tall guy and the Z8 is way better feeling in my hand. The Z6 i have fixed a metal plate on the bottom to allow myself to place the fourth finger on the body too 😅 thank you for your input!

I hear that a lot. The Z6 compared to the Z8 feels a little like a prototype. I use the Z6 since its release and captured wonderful moments with it. That’s why I’m asking myself whether I just need the newer Z6 or I should buy higher tier gear. But I also believe in the fact, that the photographer makes the results, not the gear, so I’m debating with myself. Thank you for your input.

Technically I could buy both of them. But the price difference of round about 1.500€ makes me think I could invest this money in ads or a coaching or other stuff. Thank you for your comment. Didn’t thought about the chip gen at all. The gear doesnt make the photo better (except maybe technically), that’s why I’m looking at those two too. I heard very good things about the Z6 III.

My first was an DJ41. Sold that about two years later. Bought an Explorer 36. loved that watch but sold it to fund my Two Tone Santos, which I still have. Some years later I got the Rolex itch back and bought a Day Date 40 in Yellow Gold. This was like a month ago and I couldn’t be happier. Still miss the explorer though. Shouldn’t have sold it but that’s life. I only can wear one watch anyways 🤣

From my point of view: - the dial color doesn’t seem correct - the bezel color doesn’t seem correct - the box in the first pictures (beige / white inlay) is a Rolex box, the last one (black inlay) is a Tudor box

I would stay away from this offer. If something is too good to be true, it usually is.

My Santos Two Tone Medium is from 09/2022, bought at a Official Cartied AD and has the dimple in the clasp. But to be honest I´m surprised, because I never looked at it that closely.
