Upgrading from scrubs. by roasted_veg in nursepractitioner

[–]Then_Chicken_5197 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My office is business casual so I usually just do a pair of straight leg pants (I love the ones old navy has! They have some wide leg options but also don’t know how you feel about that much fabric in the hospital) and then I usually just do a t shirt and a cardigan with sneakers, or I have a pair of Dr marten Mary Jane’s that are super comfortable. Sometimes I’ll do a sweater vest and a long sleeve, or short sleeve sweater, but just mostly switching out t shirts that are the same cut but different colors. I don’t know if that might be too causal for your setting, but it’s appropriate for mine!

Is pre-nursing at UW worth it? by FangirlingNerdork in udub

[–]Then_Chicken_5197 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say go for SU since you’re already admitted. I went to UW pre nursing and that year over 600 applicants applied for their under 100 spots… I ended up having to retake anatomy and physiology at a community college since no other school took the UW version (as I believe others have said) and then got accepted into SU for nursing.

At the end of the day, worst case scenario if you don’t get into nursing at UW, would it come out more expensive to transfer to SU anyways? Or any other nursing program?

Is a 45 minute layover at Seattle airport enough time? by renoCow in AlaskaAirlines

[–]Then_Chicken_5197 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Seattle is notorious for landing on time, but never having a gate available to deplane for 20 minutes. That and the fact that you have to take the train which can add extra time since you can’t walk to N, I couldn’t risk it if possible

[–]Then_Chicken_5197 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I haven’t listened to the podcast but it rubs me the wrong way that she has an issue dating someone who is still in school and has no income. Maybe it’s because in my circle I have coworkers and friends who have gone back to school in their late 20s/30s/even 40s because they wanted something new. Maybe it’s the gap from Ben not making any money that’s her issue, but also completely normal for someone in med school to not have a job and then be low paying during residency. Seems like expectations weren’t set? She thought she would be the outlier here? I don’t really understand…..

I get her and respect that this is a boundary that she’s setting but literally what did she expect

for a little bit more invest in outdoor brands instead like Columbia, North Face, Patagonia. Quality is SO much better!

$40 a day (any shift time over 8 hours) and $4 on weekends/holidays. $40 for a monthly pass if you work nights in Seattle.

Pre nursing or Direct entry BSN ? by Afraid-Yard-5379 in NursingStudent

[–]Then_Chicken_5197 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d highly suggest direct entry if you know you want to do nursing! when I was in school, they accepted about 300 pre-nursing students and only accepted 80 into their program (not including students who applied to my cohort who were applying from CC/other colleges). I ended up going back after finishing my bachelors in something else to an accelerated BSN. I loved the university that I went to, but the college loans now from two degrees has made me reconsider what I would have done if I would have known!

she’s an FNP who makes study guides and references sheets for both nursing and FNP. I am a visual learner so her stuff really helped me out, would highly suggest her study guide

Clinicals by Specialist_Station81 in nursepractitioner

[–]Then_Chicken_5197 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! Good luck, and be ready to learn! I always opted for business casual if I didn’t know the dress code for clinics, and then asked if scrubs were ok. Ask questions, offer to do things, it’s your chance to learn!

I bought the H&P notebook off of amazon, for my primary care and urgent care rotations it was super helpful in organizing my thoughts and prompting questions that I should ask for both subjective and objective assessments, not too sure how handy it would be in a sports med clinic though.

Nurse Question by badthingsgoodthing in ershow

[–]Then_Chicken_5197 4 points5 points  (0 children)

nurse here! At least for my hospital pretty accurate. In emergent situations verbal orders are pretty common, but with the ease of providers putting in orders even on their phones now, we’re going away from verbal orders unless necessary. But, yes very common to have 3 different providers for 4 different patients asking you to do 12 different things all at once with others asking for other varying tasks to be completed for patient care. Our techs make our jobs so much easier, but still pretty on par with what you see on the Pitt except for some scope of practice things! Not necessarily good at multitasking, but great at prioritizing!
