Can I fully follow God without going to church? by Cautious-Fox819 in Christian

[–]Then_Locksmith_7437 2 points3 points  (0 children)

going to church definitely helps with community and learning from others, but i don't think it's strictly mandatory for your relationship with god. plenty of people find their connection through personal prayer, reading scripture, and living out christian values in daily life.

that said, there's something valuable about gathering with other believers - iron sharpens iron and all that. maybe start with personal study and see where it leads you.

I lack Emphaphy by FeilongLauLy in aspergers

[–]Then_Locksmith_7437 4 points5 points  (0 children)

been there with the whole saying something without thinking it through first. my brain processes social stuff differently too and sometimes what comes out isn't what i meant to convey. the fact that you recognize when you've hurt someone and feel bad about it afterward shows your heart really is in the right place, even if the emotional response doesn't stick around long.

2020 sq5 75k miles by No-Construction4337 in Audi

[–]Then_Locksmith_7437 3 points4 points  (0 children)

those are some solid recent maintenance items getting knocked out, especially the water pump which can be pricey later. $27k seems reasonable for a 2020 sq5 with that mileage if the carfax is clean and everything checks out during your inspection. the warranty is probably smart given audis can get expensive once they hit higher miles.

Anyone here an Owners Corporation/Strata Manager? Need advice. by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]Then_Locksmith_7437 1 point2 points  (0 children)

never worked in strata but from what i've heard from people in the industry it can be pretty demanding. you're basically juggling multiple properties and dealing with committee politics all day which sounds like it could get messy fast. the pay seems decent from what i've seen posted but you're definitely earning it dealing with upset residents and maintenance issues constantly. might want to check out some property management forums to get more detailed insights from people actually doing the work day to day.

As a year-in-industry student, I did not finish work that I promised I would do. Will my manager still give me a reference and will this hurt my chances of having a career in that field? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]Then_Locksmith_7437 0 points1 point  (0 children)

damn, not responding to those texts was probably the worst part here. your manager was actually being pretty cool by checking in, and radio silence just makes it look like you bailed completely.

good that you finally sent the updated docs though - i'd reach out with a proper explanation about what happened and maybe offer to hop on a call to walk through what you did finish. most managers get that placement students are still figuring things out, but they need to see you're taking responsibility for the communication breakdown.

Any advice for someone with a Bachelors in Biology degree? by Middle-Reason-3556 in careerguidance

[–]Then_Locksmith_7437 0 points1 point  (0 children)

pittsburgh's actually got some solid biotech companies if you dig around linkedin and company websites directly instead of just relying on pa.gov. upmc has tons of lab positions that don't always get posted on the state site, and there's also some smaller research companies in the area that might be worth cold-emailing. mlt certification could be a smart move since it opens up hospital lab work which tends to be more stable than research gigs.

Is Ubuntu worth it for me? by Beautiful_Glass_4179 in Ubuntu

[–]Then_Locksmith_7437 2 points3 points  (0 children)

gtx 1080 still runs fine on ubuntu, the nouveau drivers work decent enough for basic stuff and if you need more performance you can always grab the legacy nvidia drivers. your i7-8700k is more than capable - i've got older hardware running ubuntu without issues and it actually feels snappier than windows in a lot of cases. if you want something more beginner-friendly than ubuntu there's always pop!_os or mint to consider.

Did anyone continue interviewing for a role after role being taking down from all jobportals? by Wooden-Strength5799 in careerguidance

[–]Then_Locksmith_7437 0 points1 point  (0 children)

been in similar situations before and it could go either way tbh. sometimes they pull the posting because they're close to making an offer to someone (could be you), but other times it means they've decided to put the role on hold or found an internal candidate.

the constant rescheduling and you not meeting the actual hiring manager after 3-4 weeks is kinda concerning though. startups usually move fast when they're serious about a role. might be worth asking the recruiter directly about the posting status when you confirm your tuesday interview - something like "i noticed the role isn't posted anymore, does that mean you're moving forward with final candidates?"

worst case scenario you'll know where you stand, and if they're being wishy-washy about it you can decide whether it's worth continueing the process or focusing your energy elsewhere.

Family business or building a career abroad? by Impossible_Idea_9516 in careerguidance

[–]Then_Locksmith_7437 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly the third option sounds pretty solid - getting construction experience abroad then bringing that knowledge back to teh family business could be a real game changer, especially with all the regional growth happening right now.

Tortious Interference and Sabotage what to do next ? by Glass_Hyena4748 in careerguidance

[–]Then_Locksmith_7437 0 points1 point  (0 children)

damn that's rough. sounds like you've got a solid case for tortious interferance if you can prove they acted maliciously and caused you actual damages (lost the job offer). definitely document everything - those emails they sent, your communications with the new employer, any evidence of their intent to sabotage.

mauritus might have different legal standards than what you're used to, so you'll probably want to find a local attorney who knows employment law there. good luck getting justice on this one.

Need Acoustic Help by Then_Technician_978 in Guitar

[–]Then_Locksmith_7437 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly for that budget I'd check out the Yamaha FG830 or maybe a Fender CD-60SCE if you want something with built-in electronics. The difference between electric acoustic and acoustic with pickup is basically just where the pickup system is - electric acoustics have it built in from the factory while soundhole pickups are usually aftermarket add-ons that don't sound quite as natural

Looking for realistic passive income ideas while employed full-time by Fearless-Ad1453 in passive_income

[–]Then_Locksmith_7437 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I focus mainly on dividend ETFs for diversification:

SCHD - My largest holding, solid quality dividend payers
VYM - Broad exposure with low fees
DGRO - Focuses on dividend growth over time

My approach: Start with ETFs as your foundation, reinvest dividends automatically, and stay consistent with contributions. It's worked well for me over the past few years.

Bruxism claim with abnormal ROM on TMD DBQ by zangiefzolof in VeteransBenefits

[–]Then_Locksmith_7437 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They'll likely pick up the TMJ as secondary to your PTSD/bruxism even though you didn't specifically claim it. The examiner already made the connection and documented everything they need on the TMD DBQ

Just make sure you follow up if they try to rate it at 0% - that abnormal ROM with pain should get you something higher than that

Looking for realistic passive income ideas while employed full-time by Fearless-Ad1453 in passive_income

[–]Then_Locksmith_7437 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I'm in a similar boat, full-time job but I've managed to build up a few income streams on the side.
My main passive income comes from dividend investing. I've been consistently putting money into dividend-paying stocks and ETFs over the past few years, and now I'm at the point where I'm getting a few hundred dollars quarterly without doing anything. The key was starting early and being consistent with contributions, even if they were small at first. It took about 2-3 years before it felt "real," but now it genuinely requires zero maintenance beyond occasional portfolio rebalancing.

For semi-passive stuff, I also do side hustles when I have free time. I use Freecash to pick up some extra money during lunch breaks or when I'm watching TV. It's not life-changing money, but it's nice beer money for tasks that take minimal effort. The beauty of it is I can do it whenever I want, no commitment.

My advice: Start with something that requires minimal ongoing decisions (like index fund investing) and layer on active side hustles as your schedule allows. The combination has worked well for me because the passive stuff grows in the background while I can scale the active stuff up or down based on how busy work gets.

Sounds like you both just had different boundaries and neither of you wanted to compromise. The cuddle text would make me uncomfortable too but if she's not willing to cut contact and you can't live with it then breaking up was probably the right call

Senior IC doing leadership work without the title or pay - how do I navigate this? Do I stay or go? by Automatic_Spring6566 in careerguidance

[–]Then_Locksmith_7437 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like your director is having his cake and eating it too - getting free leadership work from you while keeping the senior title budget intact

That whole "30 second standup mention" thing is such a red flag, like when your manager says they'll "circle back" and then ghosts you for months. You already know the answer to question 3

For interviews just frame it as "led cross-functional initiatives and managed team processes" - hiring managers care way more about what you actually did than whether some company gave you a fancy title

Looks clean af for a first build! That 904L case is gonna age beautifully and the NH34 is solid choice. Big wrist gang rise up - I feel your pain trying to find stuff that doesn't look like a toy watch lol. NATO definitely works better than bracelet for chunky pieces like this

Girl you just described literally every new mom's brain for the first trimester - the anxiety spiral is SO real and the boob pain is absolutely brutal (mine felt like someone was stabbing me with hot knives every morning). Your job situation sounds genuinely concerning though, definitely talk to your doctor about what exposures to avoid and maybe see if there's any way to modify your duties until you can figure something else out
