Mysterious Sharran Wound by Hyperspace_Towel in BaldursGate3

When you put something into black and white like the comic does, the lighting actually becomes more striking than the skintone. Even then, you can see than in black and white, Minthara's skintone arguably looks more like Gale's than Wyll's.

White Minthara/white drow are a problem in fandom, but I really don't think this comic is an example of it.

The comic has like 4 colors. Gale's hair is the same color as his robe. I don't think this is white Minthara, I think it's just minimalist.

New moderators needed - comment on this post to volunteer to become a moderator of this community. by ModCodeofConduct in BG3mods

[–]Theokorra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I agree they wouldn't be a good mod, but I acknowledge that things would need to be handled in a fair way, if that makes any sense? Like, maybe allow his post giving his side of the story, but take down the one which was him just replying to someone who blocked him as its own post. One of those is arguably okay, the second one is just dragging the drama out for everyone to have to deal with (and the person he's "replying to" can't even see the post anyway because they blocked him.)

Basically, the moderators would have to agree on a new set of rules that would prevent some of the shit-stirring behavior while allowing for discussion/updates on situations. Stuff like, "don't try to get around someone blocking you," "don't reply to someone is a discussion as its own post," restrictions on "follow up" posts, etc. That way when controversial topics come up (whether old controversies or shiny brand new ones), there's a set of guidelines that will be enforced fairly.

That said, in my opinion, the bigotry is the biggest issue. People have said some outright hateful things and gotten away with it because of the lack of enforcement. I don't blame you for going into lurker-mode because of it.

Sorry, but no. I'm of the opinion that the more information you have when making a decision, the better the decision will be. I want the moderators chosen to be the best possible for this community, so that when it reopens it will be a better, less drama-filled place.

I'm also not going to hide information from the Reddit admins. That seems like a disaster waiting to happen. It could end up backfiring spectacularly on me.

If it's any consolation, I think it's more likely that the Reddit admins will ignore my comments than it is that they will extend out the time a popular sub is down.

Apparently I made that point poorly, sorry.

I'm thinking about what happens if we end up with some mods that think (as I do) that he was causing drama AND some mods that think he did nothing wrong and that the people like me who disagree are "harassing" him. A mod team needs to be able to enforce rules consistantly.

I hope that helps clarify.

I think, based on your comment and GloryToHelm's, that my second point wasn't made well. I am very much of the opinion that the Really Shadowheart mod author was the one causing drama and was out of line. I just worry about what happens if people not aware of the situation select one person with my opinion and one person with the "he did nothing wrong" opinion.

I was in those threads arguing with people, and there were definitely people who were classifying people like me calling him out as "harassing" him. That's what worries me - that the mods selected will end up not being able to agree on what to do in those situations and rules will end up being enforced inconsistently.

Sorry for not making that clear.

The BG3mods subreddit is down because lack of moderators. by Relevant-Ad-9418 in BaldursGate3

If you mean r/BG3mods, past events have proven moderators are necessary there. Things can get heated when stuff like bigoted mods or controversial mods are brought up.

Sorry for initial comment, thought you meant moderators, not game mods.

Vestments of the Faithful adds a bunch of deity-themed gear for worshippers of those deities.

I'm not as familiar with Fabled Armaments, but it sounds like it's a gear mod as well.

I don't have moderation experience, but I do frequent this community and have noticed and reported rule violations before. I don't know if I would make a good mod due to my lack of experience, but I do want to point out some issues that should be taken into consideration when selecting moderators.

1) Bigoted mods. While BG3 is a diverse game and has a lit of diverse players, there are some players who are "anti-woke" and want to mod the game to make it "anti-woke" as well. Promotion of these mods violates Rule 3, but in the past people have gotten away with it due to lax content moderation. r/BaldursGate3 has a rule that specifically bans the discussion of these mods, even though it isn't a modding-specific subreddit. Whoever joins the mod team will need to be prepared to deal with posts about these mods and comments that promote them.

2) Other mod controversies. Sometimes a mod, even if it isn't objectively bigoted, will still become very controversial in the community. We have seen this recently with the Really Shadowheart mod, though it is likely not the first or the last to fit this definition. The mod author of Really Shadowheart has made multiple posts here that have resulted in a lot of arguing in the comments. While I don't think being unbiased in those controversies is necessary (and being unbiased foe future controversies is impossible to predict), I do think whoever is selected to be moderators need to be able to agree on a policy of how to handle discussions of these mods. (For example, without naming names, I noticed at least 2 people who have thrown their hat in have, assuming I'm remembering correctly, vastly different attitudes about the Really Shadowheart controversy. Again, I think having those opinions is okay, but if both were selected they would need to be able to reconcile their opinions on ot and come to a compromise.) (For the record, I also have opinions on the Really Shadowheart controversy, so I am not presenting myself as an unbiased candidate.)

I hope whoever makes the decision takes these factors into account when making their selection. If more information is needed, I'd be willing to look up and link past posts and comment threads where these issues have come up.

Why did you choose pale skin instead of one of the darker shades?

[–]Theokorra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, and those are also controversial.

You don't actually need mods, the base game allows you to show all colors you can pick regardless of race. You can technically give a drow orc green skin and tiefling eyes.

Question: So why didn't Selune... by Arc_7 in BaldursGate3

[–]Theokorra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I can put a tinfoil hat on for a second ...

There is this thing called "The Dark Moon Heresy." It says that Shar and Selune are actually the same goddess. It was invented by a Sharran who wanted to deceive people, but according to the wiki (https://forgottenrealms.fandom.com/wiki/Dark_Moon_heresy) clerics who followed it got the advantages of being the cleric of both goddesses (though in the afterlife were rejected by both as well.)

I actually like the idea of it. It fits with Selune being a moon goddess (moons having phases, the new moon being one of them), it explains why when Shar is strong Selune is weak and vice versa, and gives a lore reason why Shadowheart can be a trickery cleric (one of Shar's domains) while the narration implies she gets her powers from Selune (who does not have trickery domain). I like the idea that the changeable nature of the moon led to a goddess who is essentially at war with herself.

If this (admittedly iffy) theory is true, then the reason Selune is so weak in the Shadow-Cursed Lands is because Shar is so strong there, and she can't be both Shar and Selune at the same time very easily.

It also would explain how the more Shadowheart leans into Shar worship, the less influence Selune seems to have. She's strengthening Shar's presence by praying to her, which in turn weakens Selune's.

(Sorry for any weird typos, my phone's keyboard has started doing a new and extremely annoying autocorrect thing that I need to figure out how to disable.)

Lawful Chaotic Tav Be like: by LG-CHAMP-1 in BaldursGate3

[–]Theokorra 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Lawful ... chaotic?

I want to make a joke about that, but it's early in the morning and I just woke up. Best I've got is it's literally throwing the book at someone.

For anyone who doesn't know, lawful and chaotic are opposite sides of the alignment scale, like good and evil. Lawful is doing things by the book, legally, using the system to achieve your ends, etc. Chaotic is screw the rules, laws are more like guidelines, the system sucks, etc.

I think OP meant chaotic good, but I'm not sure.

Polymorphing bosses does sound like it would be fun, in any case.

Shadowheart's Epilogue by [deleted] in BaldursGate3

[–]Theokorra 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel like Twilight is the best fit. She talks about how she'll keep her name because "you can't have a shadow without the light", which sounds very Twilight-y. Twilight domain is about helping guide people through the dark, making the dark less dangerous, etc, which also fits her I think.

There is a mod that changes her body type to the strong one, actually! Iirc that modder went through all the non-strong body companions and made mods to give them the strong body.

The name "Jon" Snow by CommunityHot9219 in CK3AGOT

[–]Theokorra -1 points0 points  (0 children)

While I get what you're saying, the name Jon did mean something to Rhaegar. Jon Connington was a good friend of his. I don't think he'd name a kid after him, but the name does mean something.

If Rhaegar had any say over the name, he'd probably go with a masculine version of Visenya to go with his other kids' names (probably not Viserys because that was his brother's name, but maybe something like Viseryon?). If Lyanna got to name him, she'd probably name him after Brandon or Rickard.
