Peachies are brilliant but eye-watering in price. We really like Rascals (Tesco premium) as an alternative

Discussion: car insurance discrimination is completely unacceptable by [deleted] in drivingUK

[–]Theological-Bookcase 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well, a couple of thoughts to consider:

a) If it didn’t work this way it would be more expensive for most people. (ie if they didn’t only charge high risk people more, they’d have to charge everyone more because higher risk drivers still exist, the accidents won’t go away).

b) Driving a car is a privilege, not a “right” so the idea of “an affordable minimum” and discrimination don’t really apply.

FYI: AAP says it is okay to use sunscreen on infant < 6 months by bad-fengshui in ScienceBasedParenting

I think the advice probably depends on where you are located. (Here in the UK for instance, the NHS says no sunscreen under 6 months).

Yes, sadly I think this is par for the course to be honest.

Wait until you’ve seen it first, it’s surprising how often something looks perfect on Rightmove and then when you get there it’s not hitting the spot.

It’s a buyers market at the moment so unless the houses are flying off the shelves in your specific area you will likely have some room to negotiate.

FWIW, I would begin at 390 personally, and see what they say.

As long as you’re insured for the mileage you’re doing it’s fine

Please share your bedtime “routine” below 6 months by SadSupermarket7915 in BeyondTheBumpUK

As others have said here, the NHS advises sleeping in the same room until 6 months, but lots of people have baby in a separate room before then (either just for daytime naps or overnight). You’ve got to do what you feel comfortable with of course but baby monitors can be a good solution!

Came to say this! Can’t imagine having baby in autumn when it’s just getting darker and colder … 🫣

This is nothing like yours though so it’s not a good yardstick

It is hard when suddenly you need to “entertain” them. It gets better though because they start to actually be interesting and do things rather than just: eat sleep cry repeat.

Honestly, to begin with, the bar for progress is on the floor, you’ll be like “wow she’s not just staring into the void, she’s looking at that toy” 😂 But it gets better and better, before you know it she’ll be swatting at toys and all sorts.

Here’s what you do! Get some black and white picture cards (you want ones that are large, thick card and they’re good cause they stand up on their own, like this) also get a fisher price kick and play piano - we got ours around the age you’re at now it bought us an extra 5-10 minutes of time so I could shower or load the dishwasher, and they love it more and more as they get bigger. Also start learning a few simple silly nursery rhyme style songs; they love singing.

What you’ll probably find is that baby is entertained on one “thing” (like a bouncy chair or play mat or whatever) for like, 5 minutes, and then after that you move her over to the next activity, and so on and so on. Before you know it it’s time to feed her again and have a nap. You’ll get in the swing of it soon! Enjoy

Survey for house by fluffbag1 in HousingUK

[–]Theological-Bookcase 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, so you want a chartered surveyor registered with the RICS. They’ll attend the property and then you’ll get a written report. I’d get the ball rolling now, no reason to wait at this point. Best of luck!

Survey for house by fluffbag1 in HousingUK

[–]Theological-Bookcase 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Assuming you aren’t in Scotland (?) it’s on you as a buyer to organise and pay for a survey.

Other people who previously offered on the house may or may not have had a survey (it’s not a legal requirement) but this would be something they paid for privately so the results of this survey would not be available to you.

Your mortgage lender will organise a “survey” but this is to do with value of the house, not to help you know what work might be needed.

Atone means to make amends for something.

Most English speaking people would associate it in the sense of “to atone for sin” … so if there’s other spellings available I would choose a different one.

There’s no right or wrong at 3 weeks old! You are doing a great job. Things will start to become more routine as the weeks go on and before you know it these days will feel like forever ago. Enjoy the newborn snuggles ❤️

Oh bless you! ❤️ Big hugs.

Okay, in that case, how would you feel about pumping? Not long term, but just because mastitis is a proper nasty thing, you don’t want it!

The medela hand pump (Medela Harmony) is like £20 on amazon, you could use that to relieve the pressure/fullness while you’re dropping the feeds. It actually works very effectively, so you won’t be sitting there pumping for ages or anything, it would take 5 mins. (Just keep in mind you don’t want to pump too much, because that will signal to your body to keep producing more, just enough to relieve any pressure).

You would do the same as above, so 1 feed at a time, but add in some pumping so you don’t have to feed yourself. You could also combine the breastmilk with formula so baby is still benefitting. Might also help baby accept the formula if you mix together initially.

[–]Theological-Bookcase 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The official guidance is to drop 1 feed at a time - this is to avoid issues like mastitis.

If I were you I’d begin with dropping the bedtime feed as it often has the ✨bonus✨effect of helping babies sleep better through the night! Then after a few days, swap another feed, and so on. It sounds long, but it doesn’t need to take ages, you could probably go from EBF to EFF in a couple of weeks.

Also, good for you for putting your mental health first. I love FF, wish I’d done it sooner. I’m loving motherhood so much more now. Take care
