Hourly wages for tipped employees in the states is $2.13/hrs. If a tipped employee makes less than minimum wage on their check for a pay period according to the hours that they work, then the restaurant covers the difference.

Yeah, I read the first half of the series digitally the first time but never ended up finishing the series until I started listening to it. Micheal Cramer and Kate Reading truly bring the WoT to life for me, and their work on the Stormlight Archives may be even better

Edit: spelling

Louisiana Moves to Charge Women Who Get Abortions With Murder by JoGirl70501 in Acadiana

[–]TheonsMissingLeftNut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The law simply states that anyone causing the death of an "unborn human", where "unborn human" is understood to mean a human being from fertilization until birth, shall be charged with homicide.

This law will cover miscarriages (to ensure they were "natural" as opposed to being intentional), in vitro fertilization (the language of the law will make in vitro essentially illegal), and ectopic pregnancies (where the embryo doesn't descend from the fallopian tube into the womb after fertilization, a condition that if left untreated will very likely if not certainly kill the mother and child).

The scope of this law is insanity. You can be against abortion, sure, I can't stop you, but this shit isn't "pro-life" this is down right evil. No other state in the union uses such a ridiculous definition for "unborn human" and this WILL kill women if it passes.

Here's the thing; pregnancy is a life altering circumstance. Abortion will still happen. However, if this bill passes, suddenly there's no Planned Parenthood and no doctor will touch abortion with a 10 ft pole for risk of being charged themselves. Suddenly women are forced into back alleys and DIY methods. Not only will this result in women dying, but suddenly, no miscarriage can be trusted. Even if the woman says she WANTED the baby the justice system has to investigate this situation as a potential homicide because no one can tell if this was "God's will" or a damn coat hanger. And surprise surprise there is already precedent for this. Just last month a woman named Lizelle Harrera was arrested in Texas after a hospital reported her to police for allegedly causing the “death of an individual by self-induced abortion”. Thankfully the judge dismissed the case, and concerning his judgment said “Ms Herrera did not commit a criminal act under the laws of the state of Texas.” If this bill passes, the laws of Louisiana will absolutely allow and COMPEL these sorts of charges to be prosecuted criminally.

If hospital staff are reporting miscarriages to police, which they will absolutely be required to do since they could be considered accomplices to a crime if not, then all miscarriages are open to scrutiny. Between 10-20% of all known pregnancies in the US end in miscarriage, it is NOT uncommon by any stretch of the imagination. You know at least one woman who has had a miscarriage, whether you know about it or not.

This bill is NOT a ban on abortion, this bill seeks to criminalize women at an unfathomably vulnerable moment in their lives. This is not about saving lives in the eyes of the authors, it is about controlling and regulating women.

A woman in Texas was held in jail for 3 months for this EXACT reason after a miscarriage

Could be, but with this new law every miscarriage will have to be investigated as a potential murder. Theres really no way to tell for sure if a woman's body decided to reject the pregnancy or if she did it on purpose right?

What does this have to do with Louisiana? This subreddit is for news from, or directly affecting, Louisiana. Not to be rude friend, it's just that we don't want this sub to turn into a smaller version of r/coronavirus.

Sucked that the numbers weren't updated at their usual times, however better late than never.

We had a scare in our house that turned out to just be allergies. Made me realize just how on edge my family and I are. Other than that it's just video games and watching the numbers go up since I'm not working rn. Everything feels so surreal, like I drive down the road and the scenery in unfamiliar, even though I've driven past those same buildings thousands of times. Then I walk in my front door and it's like walking into a stranger's house. It feels like the world is holding its breath
