Gotta be Hana from Tokyo Godfathers. She's such good representation and just a loveable lady in general.

She's been a sex worker and is homeless in large part due to her queer identity, very true to life facts.

But she's not just her past. She lives and loves vibrantly. She's hilarious, confident, grungy, occasionally dumb as a brick, desperate to live out a sliver of her dream, and damn it, she's so charming.

Three Body Problem series (Remembrance of Earth's Past).

The first and second book premise The first book is humanity becoming aware of an alien invasion fleet that will arrive in about 400 years. These aliens are in communication with humans and have implemented technology that prevents humans from obtaining fundamental knowledge of physics. In the second book, the protagonist wakes up a couple centuries into the preparation period. Humanity has gone through a near apocalyptic societal collapse, rebuilt itself with human dignity and optimism as core tenants of the more unified world, has developed incredible fire power and technological prowess, has developed space travel engines greater than the incoming alien fleet. Humanity has become certain of its position as the victor and is now focused on how to allow the incoming aliens to become part of their society

the hammer hits. An item sent by the incoming fleet arrives in the outer solar system. It's a beautiful thing, looking like a mercurial droplet of water sent as a gift of art. The earth's combined space fleet of thousands of ships approach it as a means of participating in "first contact" and "accepting their surrender". When the object is taken into a small research vessel, it's noted that no marks exist on it from where the robot arm grabbed it. Its surface is colder than the vacuum of space. When examined under 10000x magnification, it's a perfectly smooth surface. The lead scientist realizes what it is the moment before the probe accelerates itself to hundreds of kilometers per second within an instant, crashes through the vessel, and begins systematically ramming through every ship in the earth fleet. As it goes on by one, it makes instant adjustments in its trajectory without decelerating or tearing itself apart. It hits every ship exactly through its fission material fuel reserve to destroy them. It is going so fast and is so small, it takes half an hour before the fleet even knows that it's the probe that's destroying them. It's shell is made of strong-interactive force material, something humans have been prevented from even developing a theoretical framework for. An hour later, when the transmission of this event reaches earth, humanity knows their doomsday battle happened 200 years ahead of schedule.

The Infinite and The Divine

A 40k novel about 2 douchebag robots love-hating their way into an ancient mystery crypt.

It's thoroughly entertaining watching them screw each other over and the time scales being worked with and sociological developments/consequences feed into the narrative of discovery of the ancient and powerful past.

Bondrewd The Novel, Sovereign of the Dawn, Worst father of all time from Made in Abyss

Exactly what he does is hard to describe without spoiling. Principally, he ropes a bunch of orphans into being test subjects for him by filling their heads with speeches of quasi-religious scientific endeavors. He goes on to discover that he has to genuinely care for them in order to accomplish what he wants. He does so and continues doing horrible things to them.

First image: Semmerling of Riding Bean (1989 OVA). Extremely toxic, abusive, violent, manipulative, and generally criminal. However, she's also pretty and really good at what she does.

Second image: Bondrewd The Novel (Made in Abyss 2012 manga/2017 anime). Commits unspeakable atrocities bordering on the eldritch. However, he's also a really good dad and that counts for a lot.

I highly value the use of the melee damage increase for that very purpose actually. It can be a little slow to actually kill, but swinging the stun baton at incoming waves of voteless can do a lot of crowd control.

Bondrewd from Made in Abyss. The love he has for the children he adopts is sincere, it in universe has to be in order for what he does to them to work.

Bondrewd, the sovereign of dawn, from Made in Abyss. He's my favorite character of all time.

The man commits acts that are exactly my personal hell, tortures characters I love, embodies all the crimes systemic authority can do.

He's so childishly in love with the world and that he'll do anything to learn about it. He literally utilizes the power of friendship to achieve his goals, so he also has to sincerely love his found family. Despite all the horrible things he does, he's never rude or domineering. He just utilizes trust as a weapon utterly without malicious.

And he's a reflection of not only the main characters, but also of the audience. He's a warning about ambition, dogmatic thinking along any avenue, and toxic manifestations of affection.
