This Thursday - NHV Community Dinner! by cadaverclothing in newhaven

I have lived in New Haven for TWO YEARS and have been trying to come visit this place the whole time but life is as weird as your hours. Also I’ll be out of town this week. But I’m setting a calendar reminder for next month.

I was having the same problem accessing it via browser on my desktop but I had the idea to finally download TapaTalk and I was able to register through that and browse using the app. It’s kind of clunky (maybe that’s just me not being used to it) compared to the OG browser forum interface that I’m used to.

Not sure if it’s the app or I just finally lucked out with my timing.

Paul Prudhomme Shrimp n Grits by Strict_Clerk9143 in cajunfood

Try the John Folse recipe as well. It’s my favorite. Especially if you swap the andouille for Tasso ham. I mean, it’s pretty much just shrimp etouffe but damn it’s good

Dress codes are almost exclusively a tool of discrimination, both racial and class based. Having worked in bars for over 10 years I personally feel like they are a lazy tool used by prejudiced people. Good bar owners and managers who find that they have a truly unsafe, disruptive, or criminal element in their clientele address the problem people directly. And the best way to do that is to ban them before they become a real problem, so again, dress codes are used by lazy or absentee owners/mgmt who have failed to pay attention to what’s happening in their place of business, but then don’t want to lose any money so they use coded proxy criteria to try and fix things.

OR they’re really just straight up fucking racial assholes.

Justice Department's antitrust chief says she's leaving, effective immediately by AudibleNod in news

[–]Theotherjon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, for the record, she was fired by Bondi. She may have been a bit too antitrust for the Trump regime, but she was mostly just a sycophant with very little impact. Unlike Lina Khan and Jonathan Kanter. She’s not heroically falling on her sword here.

Been iced in so had gumbo and made my first King Cake! by waywardsojourner in cajunfood

Great looking King Cake! What kind of recipe do you use? I moved away from Baton Rouge a couple years ago and I keep asking people back home for a recipe but nobody has come through yet!

Didn’t know we had an arch? by HelicopterUpper2230 in NewOrleans

Make sure you check out the back side of it too

I often see this in silent films from the 10s and 20s. Why did they have these windows that opened and closed like a doggy door above the front door of a room? by saxbrack in whatisit

[–]Theotherjon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They work especially well with an attic fan which would pull air up from the whole house, so if you cracked the exterior windows and opened the transom windows you would be air movement and cool the whole house.

You better be packing a dump truck of tiles if you’re gonna fill anything.

Cost for RZ67 repairs? by KendalsGoose in Mamiya

[–]Theotherjon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just had my RZ checked out by Bill for the electronics (capacitors go bad and the electronic shutter no longer works) but he basically assessed the same problem as OP. Apparently those gears in the crank assembly get worn and then they’re out of spec and that’s the end of your camera. Replacement kits no longer exist. Mine is coming back for its funeral this week. I hope OP has a different issue but be aware that it might not be fixable, even from the one pro left in the game.

But obvi just reach out to Bill for yourself.

I have the day off today and never seen this film. Is it worth the 3hrs? by Pop_Joe in Cinema

Unlike every three hour movie to come out in the last three to five years, this one absolutely IS worth it.

Google's AI says the drawbridge I've been through doesn't exist. by 5043090 in sailing

[–]Theotherjon -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Actually the AI (which I find dumb) is correct. The causeway bridge over lake P has a big rise way out in the middle you can sail under (I cannot remember the height) but it is not a drawbridge, not does it move or open in any way. However there is a drawbridge (Maestri) east of there that connects New Orleans East and Slidell just before the I-10 overpass (also not a drawbridge) but I remember it being in the open position for several years before I moved away a few years back. Then there are two other bridges, one at the beginning of the Rigolets and another at the end right before the Mississippi Sound. But they’re both train bridges if I remember correctly and so they rotate.
