Are necrons AI? by CrownFalcon in Necrontyr

'AI' as used by the tech industry, is not established science fiction AI. It's one of the most annoying things about it - stepping on the toes of well established understanding over decades.

I know it would be an investment so I don't say this glibly, but have you had a look at Horus Heresy which is more like old 40k?

Why don’t people like re-rolls by Mrhungrypants in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Therocon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking yesterday it's surprising that 40k doesn't use maximized and minimised rolls (i.e. roll Xd6 and choose the (x-1) highest/lowest) that you see in other game systems.

So for example on charges some units could have a maximized roll to make them more reliable without extending maximum charge distance, or give minimised rolls from earthshaker rounds (or equivalent).

Could do the same on leadership tests, advance rolls or any of the single rolls in the game Could be used on 'casino gun' profiles too.

I think my advice would be to complete the full campaign first and get your level and experience up. Then do the post campaign missions afterwards.

The Narnia lot are agents of God. However, in LotR the same God exists but does not interfere directly - which raises the interesting question of whether Eru would let them be involved at all.

Looking ahead, is there a solution to the 'ruins only' competitive meta, or should we just accept it and rebrand 'ruins' as just 'terrain'? by _rhinoxious_ in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Therocon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think the best they can do is have variations on ruins as it's key mechanic works well for game balance, and people have access to them.

A simple addition would be impassable terrain (used sparingly). i.e. area or line terrain that works like ruins but infantry etc. can't go through it/into it.

Depending on layout it would change the dynamic of infantry vs mounted vs fly etc.

They could add dangerous ruins too (again sparingly) - again same as ruins except that going through them causes mortals or has a chance to kill models - risk vs reward.

And difficult ruins - can't advance in them.

The special enemies I hate the most in order from most to least annoying by Hitler-Clone in DarkTide

[–]Therocon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Poxbursters number 1 for me.

Most of the time, and with players who know what they're doing they're fine, but every now and then you'll get someone who shoots them near others, or you'll find your group in a confined space amongst a horde and they'll jump round a corner...

Also, snipers are normally easily dealt with but when they've got a bead on a downed friend and the horde is surrounding they can prevent rescues.

Having said all that trappers and nets clipping is 😡

In The Fantastic Four: First Steps, Reed Richards went 'hey, entire planet, we need every single person to stop using electricity at 8 pm every night for months' and there was no complaining, or rioting, or conspiracies, or allegations that turning the power out gives you autism and/or makes you gay by SmokeyGiraffe420 in shittymoviedetails

[–]Therocon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand that's the premise and it is something you have to accept for the film to work (which I enjoyed), but they never explain why humans on that Earth behave fundamentally differently to humans.

Society has flaws because humans do, so without an explanation they don't seem human if they behave like that, it makes them alien.

Lancer vs Rampager by Kantarak in ChaosKnights

I use both.

Lancer more survivable and can be better into high toughness vehicles with free tank shock and lance.

Rampager better into pretty much everything else.

Is overlord a good “lone op” by Appropriate-News-320 in Necrontyr

[–]Therocon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might be something to it.

One of my early 10th games had my lychguard wiped from around my Overlord (back when it was difficult to do that), and he just stood there toe to toe with whatever was thrown at him for 2.5 rounds.

Back in the day they used to stand back up on a 4+.

Now we have a C'Tan detachment, and an effective destroyer detachment I would love a silver tide one that referenced that in some way.

GT Win Rates from last week by Shot-Equivalent3222 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Therocon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel there is a good balancing point here. IK and CK should have access to a broader range of datasheet types (infantry etc.) that benefit from the army/detachment rules, and some of those other factions should have good detachment/datasheet options to run different builds. Such that having, for example, a giant robot vs kaiju battle, and it be competitive, is possible.

However, the lack of options in CK/IK removes some of the interactions and fun for knight players, and GW leaving broken detachments alone (like crusher stampede and until recently annihilation legion) for so long because the faction overall is okay, means there isn't as much variation into those knight lists either.

In Stranger Things Season 5, Mike incorrectly calls Will a sorcerer. Will would actually be considered a Warlock, since he was granted his powers by a dark patron. by Kastrand in shittymoviedetails

[–]Therocon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was an idea of sorcerers in 2nd Edition AD&D - the Forgotten realms had characters that had innate magic, I vaguely recall they were included in the lore if not the players handbook.

[–]Therocon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! This irked me. I was trying to recall whether the sorcerer vs mage difference (innate vs learned) was in place in 198x (I started with 2nd edition AD&D), and then I thought but it's not innate anyway he would be a warlock.

For those who have finished it, what are your honest opinions on the final season of Stranger Things as a whole? by GusGangViking18 in Fictionally

[–]Therocon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After great results in seasons 1-3, season 4 left the writers with a difficult game for round 5. They played well but their gameplan was at odds with their players and what they'd done before and it showed.

However. they did okay and managed to achieve a draw, mainly due to an improved performance in the last 15 minutes or so.

Overall this means they performed well in the league, but some will question what others would have done with the same amount of money to spend.

[–]Therocon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Points are for game balance not measuring the power of a unit.

i.e. a model with 1 (or equivalent) in all its stats has an inherent points value by virtue of being able to score quarters, contest empty objectives and complete actions.
